We agreed to run through some Mountain songs and this sent me down a rabbit hole of 60’s and 70’s rock causing me to almost immediately abandon the metal I was focusing on at the time. They sure as hell don’t make em like this anymore.
"Don't make em like this anymore" also applies to those Steinbergers. That was the peak of guitar innovation right there. Carbon fiber, active pickups, Trans-trems. Wow.
If you want a modern throwback to 60s/70s rock listen to Greta Van Fleet. They sound just like Led Zeppelin. Like... JUST like them. I had the privilege of accidentally seeing them live before anyone knew who they were and they are incredible!

Corky is cool these three played a rock club around Tampa Town 2004 and afterwards l spotted CL in the corner and said to My Buddy Todd let's go talk to him he was funny we were cutting up for a short time then before we left the tickets were nice for that kind of gig I asked Corky I don't normally do this but hey Man would you please put your signature on the back of my ticket so he did and we all had a real good time

Bought an Audition jag alike from a friend for $12.00 and tried to find my way. Played some parties and bar gigs. 12 electrics here now. Latest, an Epi TSB LP Jr, 6 months old or so. Gave it a work out with LW stuff. The most important player to me ever. Other cats were influenced by him !! Happy Holidays !!

Check out his 1970's video recording of this song. Gezzz big difference. Then check out Zakk Wylde playing this song on an acoustic guitar. Absolutely mind blowing. Damn what talent. Saw Leslie West at the Hayloft Tavern in Vancouver, Wa back in the late 70's. Hardly anyone showed up so he told everyone that was there to grab their chairs and sit on the dance floor that was between the stage and seating. I bet I wasn't more than 12 feet from him and it was awesome seeing his technique so close. Played his heart out and bantered with us like we were all old friends. What a great guy.
Except that the tone he has here is nothing like the tone he had in the earlier days. This one has way too much treble. I don't understand the reason that he got away from his earlier tone. That was the one that made him famous and garnered recognition from other guitarists.

When I was about 12 years young, I met Leslie he was 10 yrs my SR . He gave me my hood nickname, "Cinnamon Girl" and once I was 15 I was at All of his concerts.... Then we both migrated to L.A. and we reunited at the HofBlues ...I miss you FAT MAN 😭🩸🌞🌿
Saw West at Hollywood Palladium as "West, Bruce and Laing" back in 1972. Leslie West (guitar and vocals; formerly of Mountain), Jack Bruce (bass, harp, keyboards and vocals; ex-Cream), and Corky Laing (drums and vocals; ex-Mountain). Stand up room only on the floor, no seats. It was loud. Stood right in front of the stage. Such a difference seeing them play right in front of me watching the chords, lead and their expressions so close. West had to be on something that night because I saw him play some chords so fast in succession that it was as fast as playing lead. Laing was bouncing his sticks off the drums into the air and crowd. Jack Bruce was playing the bass as though he was playing lead guitar. They played Cream songs too with outstanding improvising of West on guitar and Bruce on bass in the middle of the song and finally integrated back into original song towards the end. It was an outstanding performance of the three at their best. After the concert could not hear a thing. My ears were shell shocked.

Mountain did a show in 1983 at the Frolics in Salisbury Beach Mass. and I was a 20 year old stage manager. I remember Leslie yelling at me for some screw up I made and I almost pissed my pants.

Salisbury Beach is pretty chill now as opposed to its rep years ago...no more amusements, Frolics long gone. In fact I prefer to go there over Hampton because it’s less congested .

Mountain was the first "concert" I ever seen, at my high school, Brooksville Senior High School, Fla., it was in the midday sun, baking, on a Saturday afternoon, if I remember right... they blew my mind, and I always wanted to play guitar after that. That was one of the best shows I ever had the pleasure of seeing. Truly one of the old greats that never got the recognition they deserved, my opinion.

Leslie was very slim and trim at this time compared to his Woodstock days. He is one of my guitar heroes. I have two guitars autographed by him.

Mountain did a show in 1983 at the Frolics in Salisbury Beach Mass. and I was a 20 year old stage manager. I remember Leslie yelling at me for some screw up I made and I almost pissed my pants.
holy shit-salisbury beach....havent been up there since the late 70s-how i got home....beats me-things were a tad hazy back then. RIP LESIE! i agree-VERY underrated. i have some blues shit he did-wow.. he was twice the size last time i saw him on that metal show when he'd lost the leg....oh-i remember what we were doing up there-probably going up to Jims in Seabrook (?) to get some ink as it wasnt legal in MA yet....when a t shirt was 9.99 and a tat the size of a silver dollar wasnt 300 bucks! i AM old-damn.
Salisbury Beach is pretty chill now as opposed to its rep years ago...no more amusements, Frolics long gone. In fact I prefer to go there over Hampton because it’s less congested .
Felix just died around that time and lived up there ...maybe that was one of the reasons for leslie being a jerk that night .
@@michaelkoszowski3716 He wasnt a jerk. He just yelled because I fouled something up. Him and Corky were very nice. I think Corky broke his foot that day or the night hefore becausr he was wearing a giant cast.
one of my fav songs from the 70's..I remember I was at a carnival 14 yrs old, in my town with my first boyfriend and he had won me two teddy bears, and meanwhile the rollercoaster was swirling around while playing Mississppi Queen:) good times x

Mountain was the first "concert" I ever seen, at my high school, Brooksville Senior High School, Fla., it was in the midday sun, baking, on a Saturday afternoon, if I remember right... they blew my mind, and I always wanted to play guitar after that. That was one of the best shows I ever had the pleasure of seeing. Truly one of the old greats that never got the recognition they deserved, my opinion.
Saw Mountain in 71' at Winterland San Francisco with Felix on maroon violin bass ,great show.
Was listening to this in 1973 and I could still listen to this EVERY DAY....

Yessss Leslie has earned his spot in the band of heaven Wich is named one helluva a band . And yes the band one helluva band is louder and higher than ever now that Leslie has taken his rightful position in our Lord's heavenly band. I can just hear them now.
