He missed a lot of good years. He's the first one that admits the drugs fucked everything up. It's a business and when everyone's going in different directions shit happens. So many other guitarists have praised his abilities and what could have been. When you are the star it falls apart. I still love his stuff.
I watched and met Leslie in St.Louis Missouri in the late 80s at a Bar called The Big kahuna on a absolute beautiful Sunday afternoon . Corky joined him and they Tore It Up , From The Floor Up !
I've known about mountain forever, but I just recently started listening to them. Leslie had some amazing chops vocally and played a hell of a guitar. Great band.
when i was a kid in the 70's, the only Mountain we heard was mississippi queen. they are so much more, even though i put that tune right there with Iron Man and Whole lotta love.
I had seen this show on TV during the summer of 1970 and it completely changed my direction as a guitar player. I quit my guitar lessons and locked myself in my room for 2 years with 'Climbing' and Best of Cream and unlearned everything my guitar teacher taught me.

Me, too. Also have the video of the TV broadcast later that summer. Traffic, Mountain, Ten Years After, Grand Funk Railroad, Alice Cooper, the Stooges, Mott the Hoople, Bob Seeger, Zephyr with Tommy Bolin, Bloodrock, Damnation of Adam Blessing, and many others. Truly an epic day of music.
@@TheRedJB definitely a good day and a great show.I was down in front of Felix Pappalardi pretty much the whole day.It was awesome. The only thing that sucked was when the cops were busting heads in the parking lot after the show.I HAD A GREAT TIME!!!

I saw leslie West in the early 70s when was a kid j New Orleans. I think he was playing Nantucket sleigh ride and l saw a tear drop fall from his eye when he into the blues lead. At that point l know this guy had true soul. He could make his guitar drag feeling out of you. Ironically k am a musician now abd lost my right leg in a motorcycle crash after Katrina. It made me a better guitar player but l can't hold a candle next to Leslie. Hang in there bro. You are a true legend and inspiration!
John Horridge I am a true rock music fan. I’ve played drums for 30 years. I lost my right thumb because I broke a blood vessel from rehearsing for a high school drum solo. But it didn’t stop me from playing. I’ve got 1.5 thumbs, but I’m about to start gigging with a heavy rock band. We’re doing 2 Mountain songs. Mississippi Queen and Never In My Life. Even though I’m an 80’s kid, I still see how amazing these early 70’s American rock bands were. This was the beginning of “heavy metal” music.
I was at that show, then got to see them again at the field house. They let just a few of us in early & we got to see Mountain do their sound check. Corky flipped out kicked & threw his drums off the stage ended the show. What a night!!
I saw Mountain at Pirates World in Dania, Fl and was mesmerized by them. Lesley was a great melodic guitarist.I played guitar and he was a major influence.
Well damn this sucks, came here to post I was at this concert, and share a few stories, only to learn Leslie West passed away December 23 :( RIP Leslie ..... have loved Mountain since about 1969 and luckily saw them 4 times .... PS Traffic was at this concert also
Saw Mountain in the 70s with Felix with a maroon violin bass, great show, at Winterland San Francisco. Leslie hit a high note so high and held it ,it felt like a pin 2 the eardrum & I felt like I was falling forward, like it was effecting my equlibrian . Got passed it and was a great show. 😎
Look at those SUNN stacks! They must have been so loud, you could hear them all the way into Kentucky! Damn, even the roadies are standing on either side of the stacks to keep them from toppling over!

Contrary to popular belief, the original Mountain was not a power trio as it's often reported. They were a quartet, because they had Steve Knight as a keyboard player. He was definitely a member of the band for the first four albums. I'm glad to see there's footage of the band with him in it. RIP Steve and Felix...

GRAND FUNK RAILROAD!!!!
@@sethheron-vanta1383 Indeed! Forgot about the cops. I was just left of Felix about 20 feet back and swore that Corky was staring at me during the whole set. That day rocked my world. Alice: cream pie; Iggy: peanut butter.
Another thing to mention Corky Lange should be in the top 10 drummers
One of the all time great rock bands!
What else does one need? Just brilliant
@Jeremy S One of the roadies on the left side of the cabinets is actually banging his head against the SUNNs he's holding up! I would be, too!
No shit --- you could EASILY hear them in Kentucky that day. For Real.
It is amazing that these 70s rockers did not damage their hearing more substantially than it appears that they did.
Actually, Felix Pappalardi bands bass player, did damage his hearing.
Love the crowd footage, and the Huge Sunn Stacks(no wonder Corky's always been a hard hitter!
Leslie is one of the best guitar players ever ,Hendrix,J.Beck,R.Blackmore ,Robin Thrower,JOHNNY WINTER,STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN,THESE ARE THE KINGS OF SOUND, ALSO ALVIN LEE.🎸🔊🎶☮️😎 BOB.
Let's not forget Gary moore rik emmit ronnie montrose evh, also early Nugent iommi and Gary rossington Ricky Medlock
Oooof...know THAT'S 👈🏼 a list!
@@jerrywoods4066 Ricky Medlock? Nah.
@@jg6698 yeah
Contrary to popular belief, the original Mountain was not a power trio as it's often reported. They were a quartet, because they had Steve Knight as a keyboard player. He was definitely a member of the band for the first four albums. I'm glad to see there's footage of the band with him in it. RIP Steve and Felix...
Mountain and cactus give me the same vibes love it ...monsters god damn
