One trivial fact: Joe wasn't lost to a river but a narrow stretch of seawater, the Menai Straight, between the Island of Anglesey and the northeast coast of Wales.
Second trivial fact: Ren's style of storytelling is related to an obscure form of Welsh bardism originating from the druids.
Third trivial fact: The Isle of Anglesey was especially sacred to the druids and was their final stronghold as a resistance to the invading Romans. This island was the last resting place of the druids and, from this ancient, sacred island, Ren emerged from this location so rich in ancient Celtic mysticism.

Yes! Totally agree with this comment. I was geekily analysing The Hunger (again) this morning and I was like ‘This is written in cynghanedd’ (a strict poetic metre used by Welsh bards of yesteryear, still very much alive here in Cymru (Wales) and viewed by many as the most difficult but highest form of poetic composition). It’s usually written in the Welsh language, but it’s like Ren is applying some cynghanedd rules when composing his works in English, and the result is sublime. I used to joke that Eminem was rapping in cynghanedd style, so similar are the composition schemes of cynghanedd and properly good lyrical rap (I know that’s a very subjective view!).

The lyrics that really got me in this song are:
I wonder what it felt like to look down and see tranquillity
One sudden movement in a world of possibilities
Only one movement to expose our fragility...
What a perfectly accurate, eloquent, and powerful way to capture that incredibly short moment when you decide whether to go or stay... in that instant... it breaks me every time

If you watch the Knox interview Ren intellectually and logically knows there wasn’t anything he could have done that night but emotionally is another thing… the empty cup.
But notice there is a bottle of light (lights) to fill the empty cup.
The previous produced video was dark and filled with pain and frustration. This starts with that pain but continues with what Joe and all his actions has taught and given Ren. That bottle of light to fill the empty cup. Not only a crafted masterpiece but preformed extremely well with the help from Sam.

This song is very personal to me, because like Ren I lost my best friend to suicide at 19. It's been 13 years this May. When I heard this song the first time I bawled for idk how long. Ren says everything I wish I could say sometimes. I'm tearing up writing this, he just... gets every feeling that I feel totally alone with, and helps me feel not alone anymore. And I'll be forever thankful to him.

I lost a good friend to cancer a few years ago. I was with her in the last week and saw her light dwindle. I was 60 when she passed and that was a defining moment in my life. Suddenly I started to evaluate my existence and realised that I had been freewheeling without taking full responsibility. Now I can honestly say I'm a changed man. And she remains with me always.

I also take from this his feeling of anger and frustration that he missed saving his friend by five minutes. The pain resonates with him even today, although he’s struggling to allow himself forgiveness. I love that he chose the piano to express himself with this song. It lends a special dignity to the words, and a sense of importance.

You are correct when you say that Ren’s voice would be fitting for Frank Sinatra songs. He sings a bit of Frank Sinatra’s “Fly me to the moon” in a clip from an an old Twitch stream. While he’s only messing around and changes the words at the end, to make it funny, it’s still obvious that his voice is perfect for it.

The song is TO Joe, and i saw the bottle and thought "message in a bottle". It's the light message to Joe, it's the title of a song by The Police who are one of Ren's favourite bands, it's symbolic of the light of the eternal spirit which is contained within the fragile vessel of the body but is eternal, and finally, the "message in a bottle" is the means of communication for the desparate sailors, whether marooned on a desert usland or facing perils and uncertainty in the high seas. It fits perfectly with the traumatic aquatic ending of Joe's life. @RenMakeaMuaic is so deep. ❤

This is an absolute favourite of mine. I love the part after the repeated lyrics from Suic*de. It flows so well. Beautiful lyrics and very deliberate performance with excellent musical breaks for punctuation. I particularly like the "only humans" line because I really strive to live by that philosophy. And the interesting spin on that is that judging others for their flaws is also only human.

(1/2) Rosalie- I just lost my dad late Tuesday night and my heart is absolutely shattered. You seem like such a sweet and genuine person, who is also very empathetic, so I just wanted to share and release some emotion.
I was home half passed-out, watching TH-cam videos on my tv when I woke up and realized my mom had called me 5-6 times, which isn’t normal. It was about 11:30pm when I saw, so I called her back. She answered the phone hysterical and crying. I asked what was wrong and she said:
Dad was upstairs and had gone to bed already. At some point he woke up to go to the bathroom and get some Tums. We aren’t sure what happened, but he ended up falling backwards into the hall, falling into the wooden stair bannister, and his head broke through two of the vertical wooden spires. Mom wasn’t sure if he was impaled on the wooden stump still sticking up. She told dad not to move. We’re not sure if he just got dizzy, if he had a heart attack, if he had a stroke…he just fell back and hit the back of his head really hard. We called the paramedics to come out, and they apparently asked him if he could get up, and they moved him to the bed. They treated him for a little bit and said “he’s probably ok, and might feel a bit sore”… that’s it. Mom asked if she should take him to the ER to get X-rays or something, and they SHE could do that if she wanted to, then said that they could take him also. Then one of the paramedics said that maybe they should check his vitals. Also, when moving him after a head injury fall, they never braced his neck or anything. Just something seems off; they didn’t seem to know what they were doing. Dad started feeling nauseous, and kept saying he was going to get sick. Mom told the paramedics to dump the bathroom garbage can onto the floor and just give him the can. Then dad threw up profusely for a good while. Mom went to the bathroom to wet a rag and wipe his face. Dad said, “Thanks honey, I love you”. She went back to wet the rag again and when she came back, the paramedics were slapping and shaking him, trying to get him to respond. Mom jumped on the bed and stroked his face while holding his hand. She said “squeeze my hand if you can hear me”…and he never did squeeze. They kicked mom out, put dad on the ground and tried to do CPR, but weren’t able to bring him back. They were going to leave at one point, and just like that, my dad was dead…
I immediately broke down in tears and screamed. I couldn’t believe it. Out of panic, I called a few of my close friends, not knowing what to do. I wanted to get dressed and head to my mom’s, but I was frozen and couldn’t move. I made 2-3 phone calls, then found the strength to get dressed and head over.
When I got there, there were already 3 sheriffs there, and they wouldn’t let us go upstairs to see my dad. They said we had to wait for the coroner to show up. Meanwhile, they treated the house like a crime scene. They took pictures all over, away from where my dad was- pictures of the downstairs, pictures of the garage, pictures of the thermostat…and we’re just downstairs, crying and waiting. We waited for 1-1.5 hours for the coroner to finally show up. At some point, two other people with the gurney showed up, and we told them that they’re not taking him without us getting the chance to see him. The coroner was upstairs for about 20 minutes. He finally said he was ready for him to come downstairs. We were all heartbroken and in shock, and just wanted to see our dad/husband. Then the coroner said that my dad was already sealed up, that this is his jurisdiction, and that he’s not opening him up for anybody. We had to watch as strangers carried my poor dad downstairs in a body bag, and the fucking coroner wouldn’t even let us see him, touch him, or say goodbye. They put him on the table and put another cover over him, after strapping him down, and this asshole had the audacity to say “you can say goodbye to the bag if you want”. We were all in tears already, and this asshole was making an already traumatic experience so much worse. We were crying and yelling and screaming at him because he wouldn’t let us see him…this was maybe 2am at this point, out in our front yard. His response was that he wasn’t told that we wanted to see him and that he knows how we feel, since he has a dad who’s “probably dying in the hospital from cancer”…as if comparing his tragedy somehow lessens ours. My sister said, “I hope he doesn’t fall and hit his head, that way YOU can actually say goodbye”. He was so callous and cold and had no compassion or sympathy. I can’t express how fucking heartbreaking it is to watch your father be carried out of your home in a body bag, not be able to see him to say goodbye, and have a total stranger rob you of that. We didn’t deserve that, and my dad sure as Hell deserved better.
We were told that they were going to take him downtown to the coroner’s office and wouldn’t release him until after we have a funeral home picked out. Mom didn’t want him to stay with that coroner for a second longer than he had to.
The next morning I went to his church and tried to find out who they use or suggest. After making a bunch of phone calls and figuring stuff out, we decided on a funeral home. They picked him up Wednesday night, and we would be able to see him Thursday.
When Thursday came around, we were finally able to see my sweet dad. We had asked the coroner, before he took him from our house, if we could get dad’s rings- he had a wedding ring, a rare ring from graduating from MIT, and a diamond ring that his father wore (the diamond coming from his dad’s first wife who died on the operating table)…all sentimental things to our family. The coroner wouldn’t let us retrieve the rings, nor tell us what/if he was wearing them. At the funeral home, they presented us with an evidence bag, which only had his wedding band- nothing else. So we weren’t sure if the people who went through our house, took pictures, went through our drawers, etc swiped that or what. You don’t want to believe that, but we felt so violated by the whole process.
We all got to finally see dad as a family, and also some personal one on one time. After a day and a half of agony, we finally got the chance to see him.

(2/2) I’m not sure if you’ve heard of Monsters, by James Blunt, but hearing that song about his dying father made me want to tell my dad EXACTLY how I felt about him, but I always thought I’d have more time. I was planning on doing it around Christmas, and now I’m so mad at myself for not doing it when I had the chance.
Well when I had my one on one time with dad, I told him all the things I wanted to. I told him how proud I was of him, of his career, of all of his accomplishments, his work with the Air Force, how he makes food and delivers it to the homeless, how he helps do laundry for the homeless, he dedicates his time and money and effort to those in need, he mentors those seeking advice. I thanked him for teaching me how to play catch, how to play guitar, how to be man, how a man should treat a woman (my mom has been with him since she was 16 years old- they were married for 47 years, and I’m worried and heartbroken for mom). I just thanked him for every little thing he’s ever done to show his love for me and our family. He’s the best man I’ve ever known, and if anybody is deserving of Heaven, it’s he. He was a devout Christian and always said we aren’t guaranteed our next breath, and that whenever his time comes, he’s ready. So I told him that I’m so sad to see him go, but happy that he gets to be reunited with his mom and dad, and also asked him to watch over Diesel, my English bulldog who doesn’t have a whole lot of time left, when it’s his time. They love my Diesel boy like he’s part of the family and refer to themselves as grandma and grandpa…so I asked him to watch out for Diesel for me, because he’s going to be looking for his grandpa when his time comes. Lastly, dad always used to have a phrase he’d say to my sister and me whenever he left for work in the morning. He’d give us a hug and a kiss and say “have fun, work hard, learn lots, do good things, and remember your daddy loves you”. So I held his hand, touched his face and my last word to him were, “have fun, work hard, learn lots, do good things, and remember your son loves you”.
Walking out of that room and knowing I’d never see him again was THE HARDEST thing I’ve ever done in my life, but I NEEDED that time with him, to tell him how I felt, to thank him, and to get some semblance of closure.
We got back home and everybody was obviously shaken, hurt, heartbroken and upset. For whatever reason, I felt that I needed to find his rings. It was just something that would somehow help- just to get another level of closure and ease the thought that we were violated further than we already were. I needed to do something to help my family. My mom and sister had already looked for over an hour, but that was right after they took dad away and they couldn’t think straight. After 15-20 minutes of searching, I finally found dad’s rings, and I just fell to my knees and broke down. My mom and sister came running upstairs, thinking I fell or hurt myself, and already freaking out over noises since that’s what they heard when dad fell. That definitely wasn’t my intention, I just had no control of my emotions or actions at that point. But finding those rings was a huge relief. Again, it’s more of the sentiment and not the value. Rings won’t bring him back, but it was something that we associate with him. Mom started bawling and said that when she was speaking to dad alone, she mentioned that we couldn’t find his rings. She asked that he check in from time to time and maybe guide us to find them, just so we know he’s still looking out for us. I didn’t know this until AFTER I found them, so mom said that was dad working his magic and taking care of his family, yet again.
It’s all been so hard to deal with and such a shock. I’m still in shock. It feels like some horrible nightmare and I can’t wake from it. Or it feels like dad is just away on another business trip and we’re just waiting for him to come home. I never thought that I’d never see him again. Luckily the last thing I told him before he passed was “I love you” and I’m forever grateful for that.
I don’t know why I felt compelled to share all of that. Maybe just putting it down into words and sharing it is a cathartic release and therapeutic. The only thing I can say is, if you read all of this: don’t wait to tell your loved ones how you feel…you may not get another chance. Show your kids, your spouse, your parents, your friends, your neighbors, etc how much they mean to you. Be good to one another. Share compassion and love and help out however you can. Be the kind of person my dad was. He left some HUGE shoes to fill. He was the greatest man I’ve ever known, and it was an absolute honor to call him my dad. He raised the bar so high that it’ll be impossible for me to live up to it, but I’ll spend the rest of my life trying my best, trying to make him proud.
Thanks for taking the time to listen to me. I hope me sharing my story has touched or inspired you, in some way.

Just like you R. with thears in eyes.
But for me the most painfull , the most genuine moment is the very begining of the song with the lump in the throat, that moment when you can t speak, I thinks you spotted him. It reminded me of me.
Just another compassion with Ren s soul and then song.

Awesome. Clearly influenced by Jeff Buckley, who was influenced by (as you mentioned) middle Eastern singing - particularly Nusrat Fatah Ali Khan. Ren sounds so much like Buckley at times but I have never heard him mention JB. I would love someone to ask him about Buckley.

I love your Ren videos but I'm dying for you to get back to The Warning. The Queen Of The Murder Scene album is a psychological rock novel about a disturbed young woman as she goes from obsession and desire to murder and madness. Told from the point of view of her good side or her psychopath side. You would love it. And story aside every song is a 10/10.

I do not believe the bottle of light is accidentally placed. Is it empty or full of light? Is the light trapped? Yet it escapes and enters our eyes. It reminds me of the question of perspective that asks if we see the glass as half empty or half full. Ren challenges the duality offering us the perspective of the third choice. In Power Ren says: "my cup ain't half full, man, I'm filling up the whole". Is Ren trapped like the light in the bottle or is he escaping the bottle by influencing over a million of us with his performances and music?
