    This is one of my favourite compilations. Rupert knows just what to ask to take the questioner over the edge. And the questioner is so open and honest, clearly answering from direct experience. It's very touching

    "it is not possible to think something that is unlimited. Therefore it is not possible to think reality.... The real thinkers don't think (-Shankara)... Then naturally spontaneously effortlessly thinking comes to an end, the mind is blown out, then reality (seemingly covered up by thoughts) remains, that is Nirvana.... Understanding can't take place when mind is present"

    If we think we are body, the world will appear as an object of matter in space. If we think we are a mind, experience will appear as thinking, sensing and perceiving in time. If we know we are infinite consciousness, then everything will be experienced as a modulation of that consciousness and there will be no fear, no sense of lack, absolute intimacy or love with all seeming things. We're free to choose whichever way of seeing that we please, experience is very obliging, it conforms to the way we see: if we think we're a body, experience will appear to confirm that belief, if we believe we are a mind, our same experience will confirm that belief, if we know that what we are is ever-present unlimited consciousness, then all our experience will confirm that. Our experience of the so-called world will just reflect whatever we believe back to us.

    Alan. I thought you might be interested in a similar thought from a different tradition - Buddhism. The following is from Pema Chodron, Going to the places that scare you on TH-cam, 14: 02. She is doing a Tonglen practice dealing with shame. "Sometimes I say to myself this shame that I feel is actually in its essence just open unobstructed clear energy. I don't have to any longer keep it fixated with my mind. I don't have to fuel it with my mind saying to myself I'm bad I could never be forgiven I did the shameful thing. I don't have to feed it that way anymore. I could realize that it's simply open unobstructed clear energy. This very hot painful feeling could be felt fully, and we could realize it's clear unobstructed quality. And then breathing out we really relax out open out and send out forgiveness to ourselves and all the others. It's a sense of forgiveness and also a sense of relief and relaxation that we could just let this go and connect with the open refreshing quality of it we don't have to be caught in the small world of shame and guilt."

    The first time I heard this it seemed like such an opening. Later I could not hold back the waves of painful emotion that has flooded in from everywhere. In this context of awareness- what to do with this river of pain?
    In other words the mind comes back and it’s ceiling power again fully obscures, or seems to obscure awareness. This is the edge of the sword here- a reservoir of profound pain.

    • @alanneachell9092
      @alanneachell9092  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a good sign as it is revealing hidden emotions. When the emotions come, just try to be with them without labelling them.
      I am away until 22nd July and have little internet connection, sorry.
