    ~~~~~FAQ~~~~~ It is unlikely I will have time to answer your specific questions about this video. I'll include some answers in this FAQ, but if you are stuck at some point in the video: (1) check formulas, (2) check references or (3) download the templates instead.
    1] Q: What version of Excel are you using in this video? A: Microsoft 365 (Excel 2016/2019)
    2] Q: How do I display weeks or months instead of days (+100 other ways of asking that)? A: Watch the rest of the videos in this video series or download the files that come with the Pro version of the gantt chart template on my website.
    www.vertex42.com/ExcelTips/how-to-make-a-gantt-chart-in-excel.html
    There are also templates on the construction template page with timelines based on months or weeks:
    www.vertex42.com/ExcelTemplates/construction-schedule.html
    3] Q: What is the "Upper Left Cell in the Range" that is mentioned at 4:46? A: The range I'm talking about was selected at point 4:23 in the video, so the upper-left cell is E7. That means that your relative references within the formula should be created based on E7. That is why you use E$5, $B7 and $C7 when creating the formula. Column E and Row 7 are relative to cell E7 because they do not have the $ in front of them. Think of a conditional formatting rule as being "copied" to the other cells in the "Applies To" range, with relative and absolute references following the same rules for copying as when you create formulas within cells.
    4] Q: Are there ways to show repeated/recurring tasks? A: Sure, create additional rows for each occurrence of the recurring task. In Part 2 of the video series, you'll see how to start creating dependencies between tasks (linking the start of one task to the end of another). Although it is possible to show recurring tasks on the same row (by creating a custom formula or CF rule), it becomes extremely complicated to create a dependency to a particular occurrence of a recurring task, unless each occurrence is on its own row with its own start and end date. So, although a lot of people like to show recurring project meetings, unless those meetings affect the timing of other tasks in the project, I would normally recommend leaving them off the gantt chart, or just making a note somewhere that says "Project Meetings: Every Tuesday at 10:00 am".
    5] Regarding problems with the progress rule (referring to 11:18 in the video): Make sure that the formula is correct based on the upper-left cell in the Applies To range. Check for correct use of relative vs. absolute references. Make sure you are using the correct Applies To range. If all else fails, download the template.
    6] Q: How can I show Planned vs. Actual?
    A: See this blog post from a while back: www.vertex42.com/blog/help/gantt-chart-help/actual-dates-vs-planned-dates-in-a-gantt-chart.html
    7] Q: Can this be done in Google Sheets?
    A: Most of it. Watch this ... th-cam.com/video/8eKk0M2zGIk/w-d-xo.html
    8] Q: How do I show delay or float time within the Gantt chart? A: See the answer to question #6. Another approach to show delay or float time as a different color is to create a new column for listing a second End Date. You'll then need to create a new conditional formatting rule that uses THAT end date instead of the original end date, and make sure that the new rule is listed AFTER the original rule in CF Rules Manager. See the following article if you need to learn more about conditional formatting: www.vertex42.com/blog/excel-tips/how-to-use-conditional-formatting-in-excel.html
    9] Q: How do I add Milestones to the Gantt chart? Method 1: Watch the rest of the videos in the series, especially the one about using different colors for the bars, and then use a specific color for milestones (black is commonly used). Method 2 (really advanced): If you want a black diamond ◆ to show as a milestone, you can use your own formulas and custom number formatting and the black diamond unicode character. I don't have a video demonstrating this, but the latest version of Gantt Chart Template Pro includes an example.
    10] Q: I can't get the conditional formatting to work. What am I doing wrong? A: Here is the process for resolving problems with conditional formatting ... (1) Check your Applies To range (2) Check that every reference in your formula is based on or relative to the upper left cell in your Applies To range (3) Check the formula (4) Download the template instead.
    11] Q: Can you please slow down? A: The video was intentionally created to fit a LOT of stuff in a short time. It is expected that you'll need to pause very frequently or even rewind as needed if you want to ponder, and especially if you want to follow along in Excel. Note that I never said that this video would show you how to create your own Gantt chart in 13 minutes. It took me FAR longer to create than that, and even if you follow along exactly, it could take a few hours. I didn't originally design the video to be a follow-along tutorial, but rather a quick demo of some advanced techniques for intermediate and advanced Excel users, so a huge congratulations to those people who have commented and said they were able to create their own chart just from the tutorial (rather than downloading the template).
    12] Q: Add 2:00 how do you link cell E2 to B1? A: Select cell E2 and type "=B1" then Enter (don't type the quotes). Google "how to create a formula in Excel" for more info. What you are doing here is creating a formula in cell E2 that returns the value in cell B1.
    This is the most detailed, yet most impressive Gantt chart tutorial video I’ve seen. I will need to watch a good few times at slower speed and do a few tests before I can claim I’m competent enough
    I've seen a few of these, as I'm trying to learn how to do this. Yours just explains it in the best, simplest way (for me). It's a grateful "like" from me.
    Videos like this, though few, are what make my youtube addiction worthwhile. Super clear presentation, perfect pace, great basic practices (e.g. using names) and a polished result. Thanks!
    I once made a Gantt chart manually, it was so tedious. But this makes Gantt chart look so easy.
    Fantastic video. Really.
    This could take several hours to explain to beginners what to do, step by step, and explaining why. But this is perfect for those who only need to get it done and knows the basics.
    Even as an advanced user, I learned new things like "relative cell names", clever solution, and easy to replicate.
    From a content perspective, the process is clear, logical and simple. Presentation is focused on content rather than the presenter as with most instructional videos. AMAZING work.. Thank you.
