I think Axl himself said that they were all about expressing themselves, which is the backbone to rock and roll. This should hold no boundaries, no exempt. I feel what he did was fine, he was expressing himself. Apparently, he was not the only one in the band that was dissatisfied with the press and how they misrepresented the band. I stand by his decision whether naive or not. 🌹💯

Guns'n'roses did get a shity deal from the Press. I live in St Louis and I was led to believe that the song was dedicated to St Louis. I did enjoy the song though.
Funny story we went camping once and we're listening to use your illusion and some guy came over to yell at us about being loud and that part came on right after the dude approached. He was shocked and appalled.
He was like this is a family campsite. Everyone got quiet as Axl Rose goes printing lies starting controversy you want to antagonize me? Antagonize me!

Interesting how the Press doesn't Blow up 'this' Axl interview all over the place, and has managed to hide and suppress its discovery over the years. Here, where Axl is exposing that he isn't to blame for some of the things that went down with Guns n Roses, and how that he was even set up.
    This needs more exposure.
Good interview, good for you to post this, this is exactly what GNR fans should be doing.

Nicely done! I remember all the hoop-la on MTV news. The Izzy interview was cool. That was a first, as well as the pirate radio one with Duff. I wouldn’t want them to change anything. I went to the reunion concert. My first and only GNR concert. I wanted to attend the 1991 concert. I was married at the time. Ex Husband said No.
I have always been a fan of GNR. Having said this, I had never heard anything about GNR SO CALLED reputation. Never heard any negative reports all. I was about 20 or 21 when I first heard their music. I never really watched MTV as such my ( ex husband) I had never read any Rock Magazines such as Rolling Stone or spin. These magazines I read when I was younger. I had no knowledge of who they were only the songs. So, when I attended the Reunion concert I didn't know what to expect. All I knew was, it would be good. Shamefully, lol, I only knew, a handful of songs, such as, Sweet Child O mine, patience, November Rain, Knocking on Heavens door, You could be mine, Live and Let Die. I didn't know the opening song when the band came on Stage.😟
Strangely, I didn't familiarise my self with GNR music to prepare for the concert nor did I listen to GNR music for 3 years after. Any way back to the concert, I arrived at the concert, I showed the Usher my ticket once I entered the stadium and he told me to go down the front. I thought ok he's made a mistake here, as I only paid I think $90 odd dollars or so for the ticket. And I know front row tickets cost much more. So I turned telling him so and he said it's ok go down the front. So I did. There I stood, thinking WOW! This a first, I have never been at the front EVER. I was excited of course. It was stinking hot day. I don't really cope well in the heat anyway, but I wasn't complaining. I was chatting to a young lovely couple to the right me. Then Angry Anderson graced the stage, I was unaware Rose Tattoo were the opening support act, another support band came on after Rose Tattoo. I was standing of course front row, more to the left. We waited for about 40 to 45 Minutes. I was someone who all is always on time by the clock, Axl believes in Divine timing. So there I was thinking they really are late. Anyway the moment arrived and I remember Axl running onto the stage, as I wrote I didn't know the opening song, maybe it was Paradise City? 🌹🌹❤️❤️. I stood there thinking Hmmmm he hasn't apologised for being late. Then he did. Wow, must be a mind reader☺️ During the concert, I noticed to the far left of me from the corner of my eye a young man who was heavily intoxicated coming towards the front barrier to where I was standing and he was making his way along the barrier to the right. In a way I felt sorry for him to be in such a state. Then again where was security??? I know here in Australia, from experience from other concerts we're a pretty tame crowd but still, where were they? Anyway, the concert was playing, another treat was Angus Young playing a solo, by this time I was exhausted from the heat and my lower back was aching badly, so, I had to leave, I really didn't want to and felt sad at leaving, as I turned, I saw a work colleague, I said Hi, thought it was strange that she was so close behind me but hadn't said hello???when I left the stadium to make my way back to the Hotel Ibis, when I was walking along the street, November Rain started, (which was my favourite song and still is) really felt a pang of sadness and regret at not staying, I turned to walk back, then thought it would probably have finished by the time I get there and I remember thinking Ive lost my spot. So the next time I saw her at work I said I didn't know you were going to the concert, she said she and her friend were sitting up where the seats were and that the sound was really bad so they came down to the front.
A few years later, I started listening to GNR learning about the songs I hadn't heard before along side watching interviews.
I must say, I also felt and know Axl Rose and GNR were misrepresented by the Media etc. Don't need to be Einstein to work it out.
Ok, so, they had their addictions. Why try and make an example of them when it is rife through out the industry, past bands, were heavily into the scene. Anyway, if someone, wants to judge me, just because I love Rock N Roll music doesn't mean I have taken drugs or have an addiction with alcohol. In the past this was heavily questioned. If I want to have a social drink with especially with myself I will. These people, or person, had lost before they had even begun to try to falsely accuse me of such. As I always say love the music not the scene. That is not a negative to anyone in particular.
Who the person or persons who have accused me of such remains a mystery, I can only guess. Not willing to voice over social media.
Anyway, I must say I really admire the work GNR has done and continues to do. They are a band that stands on their own.
Watching performances, and when AXL speaks, wow, one gains strength in realising ones own voice, to speak out about personal experiences.
As far as the song Get or Getting in the Ring is concerned (I havent heard the Song)I look at it as a Metaphor not a physical punch up. It can be people who want to set about challenge you in different ways.
Well all I can say about people trying to encourage to say something and you respond with should I say that, is don't. If the continue to encourage you and ask why you won't. tell them to write their own song. Pretty sad when they are no where to be seen, when it hits the fan. You had every write to feel set up. It's a nasty, damaging tactic and yes it can take a very long time to get over, especially, when people are still trying to this very day to do the same. Just have to learn our lessons. Just don't allow anyone to manipulate you in any shape of or form, and it comes in many shapes and forms. Trust yourself only and what you think and feel. GNR forever❤️

Wow, thanks Sid. The lyrics are self explanatory and I would associate this song with an actual boxing ring. The swear words could be bypassed for radio play. I remember here in Sydney Australia that a threat to say that a person has studied either karate 🥋 or martial arts or even boxing 🥊 was a warning amongst individual groups that would have disagreements with others. Definitely the culture of the time here in Oz. The names Axl lists within the song reminds me of the history lesson song Billy Joel sings "we didn't start the fire." Try playing each of these songs one after the other and you will see the musical genius within each one. My opinion. Thanks again for the great content.

7:50 whoever wrote that quote did a slight mistype. It's supposed to say "good punk energy." But that's nothing to nitpick about lol. The rest of the interview where that snippet came from is real interesting. Izzy even talks about those infamous contracts GNR/Axl had the press sign.
If anyone is interested in the whole thing, it's issue 409 of Kerrang from Sept. 1992. The title of the interview is "Hell 'Hounds". I don't know if you can add links into the comment section (otherwise I would've left a link), but I did type it up and put it on a website complete with scans of the magazine.

I think Axl has a right to his opinion about these decrepid rock critics. They've been slandering gifted rock bands for decades and got a dose of their own medicine. No band ever backlashed on these lousy critcs in a song but GnR. Hey, like Axl ranted about on stage, these critics are out right jealous of rockers coz they can't write one simple song or play an instrument, and take it out on the ones they're jealous of, that's it, plain + simple. So express himself? Yes they had every right to and shouldn't feel ashamed about it.❤

This is just my thought, but a lot of bands don't play all of their studio stuff live. I think it's because it's too hard to do on the road. Some songs have multiple or layered guitar tracks, some songs are super hard to sing and take multiple takes in the studio, some songs have added effects or instruments like horns or organ. I think that some songs are just difficult to play well live. On the other hand they may just nit enjoy playing some songs live for one reason or another.

What I find hilarious is that Axl Rose was saying "I was a little naive" but just a few years before this song he sung "Rocket Queen" which has the line "I might be a little young but honey I ain't naive". I am sure he regrets this now but back then we didn't have the internet so it was hard to figure out who these people were or what they were talking about if you didn't know about these magazines when they printed these articles. GnR went from gritty and raw to polished keyboards and pianos just as their image went from ftw Motley Crue like badasses to primadonna thanks to Axl's antics.
They are the greatest band with only one great album ever.

I love this song, Axl if your reading this (in the slim chance that you would). The track is great and very uplifting, maybe it's an idea to alter the lyrics from time to time to bash people who really deserve an ass kicking. Like Trump or someone who is screwing us on a daily basis. That would really be cool and satisfy a lot people!

I think it's a great song, yeah they should've thought twice about using real names. But fuck it what's done is done. I had a similar situation when I wrote a song about an ex-girlfriend. I used her name and her friends. The principal called it slander. Is it really slender if I spoke the truth?
