  • After installing new exhaust mods and big brake upgrade my BMW X5 35i N55 engine runs slower than it did before. What could be the problem? I'm going to find out at the drag strip and a a few car while I'm at it.

    Air temp and added weight on the wheels will make a huge difference. Big brake kits are not for drag cars more for track and yes better stopping power on the streets but most people do not drive hard so no need. But air temps make huge difference. That’s why most street drag cars run with an ice box. Also your engine will have heat soak in it for hours and hours after. Meth injection will help keep intake temperature down on hard pulls. snow performance makes kits that use the windshield washer tank. Also you can upgrade the pump and keep the stock injectors but add port injection to the intake Manifold. This can be all controlled with tune. Also upgrading the cam to N52 cams and also swapping cam shims to the 11mm ones or 11.5 shims this will let more air flow in. And did you upgrade to the n20 bar sensor on the charge pipe. 3.0 bar sensor. With everything you have and that you will make little over 520 at the wheels

    Dont think it the ecu .... dont you want some back preasure to keep the turbo spooling? Hence a free exhaust flow is sometime not that good for turbo cars ...

    • @AutoLust
      @AutoLust  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your support and input on the situation, but back pressure is the worst thing in the world when it comes to turbo cars. You want exhaust as free flow as possible after the turbo. You have to remember the exhaust wheel on the turbo is tiny so that's the main restriction point in the exhaust track. You don't want any more restriction after that. A free flow exhaust is what spools the turbo faster not the opposite. Remember I run straight pipe exhaust on my X6M from the turbos back and it's one of the quickest tune and downpipe only X6M/X5M I've seen.

      @@AutoLust dont know why .. here what I found bro.
      When I cut the cat , resonator and exhaust from my n63 engine .. it felt and was slower.
      There are not alot of people who tweak these engine and hence community is small.
      So asked around and felt the same way u did as the people with other car with turbo. Subura wrx and other turbo car that where simple.. they went faster. These engine are simple and dont have sensor telling the engine to do something ...
      Here a few things I am checking. Blow off valve aka diverater valve I am going to upgrade to turbo smart non plumb back.
      Bmw has a alot of stuff that goes on and computer is doing something it think it right I feel .. but it not what you want ..
      Like u bro dont know .. learning and loving it .. but it frustrating and cost $$$$.

      @@billboon I know that opening the exhaust more will give you more up top and take away a little down low, but not sure about the car going faster or slower. I'm also going to change to a dual Port BOV when I upgrade the turbo. It's just so hard finding little small problems like this especially when it's not throwing any engine codes. I'm just going to keep adding mods and building power and then any problems will have to show themselves. I really appreciate your consistent long time support for the channel💯

      @@AutoLust bro I feel you. Upgrade my water pump and did the 90c thermostat with lower psi cap. Sound simple ... ... now I have sensor that not throwing the water pump error every couple of days saying it not ground on a sensor .. check the wiring... everything seems fine .... feel it bro ..
      Love bmw but they make it hard to tweak compared to the other cars.
      Everything is so expensive.
      I would go turbosmart for the blow off. Speaking to some real turbo guys .. they said open air bov might help with this problem as the turbo could be recriclicling causing with some pressure it was not tuned to.
      Trying will let you..

      @@AutoLust also here why bmw are not doing thing to tune but for emission control .. the electric water by peirburg spec are only design to run at 90c .. bmw out of the factory the engine runs at 105 c for emission... so the electric water pump is design to fail ... (water coolant)
      U touch one screw and stealership wont look at or will look at but cant guarantee anything but will charge u $$$$$$

    Wait. What...? Cool air gives a better burn. I really notice it on my motorcycles in 60 degree air.

      I know it's weird but I really think I might have a small boost leak somewhere or is just the extra unspring weight on the front end now. It was pretty hot that day so that could be part of the reason as well. Once the methanol direct injection gets on there it shouldn't have a problem with heat soak.

    Try upgrading the charge pipe to a vrsf one and also get a transmission tune you might feel a difference

    • @AutoLust
      @AutoLust  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just switched to a ER charge pipe a few months ago because I did have a charge pipe leak. I checked for leaks and there's none at all. ER has some of the highest quality n55 parts available so I definitely don't think it's the charge pipe.

    • @AutoLust
      @AutoLust  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@slow_f1568 I just ran a 13 sec pass at over 100mph back to back 3 times at the track without a trans tune. The only changes I've made since then was the vibrant muffler which is a million times better than the stock non M sport muffler I had and I upgraded to six piston calipers and 550i GT rotors up front which is a hell of a lot heavier than the single piston calipers and small rotors that were on it. I know for sure it has nothing to do with a trans tune or my bm3 stage 2 tune because I didn't have a transmission tune to run the 13-second passes before and I had the same stage 2 bm3 tune. I think it's the extra weight on the front of the truck or it's another small boost leak somewhere. When I first did the front big brake kit upgrade I could actually feel the heavier weight up front in the steering wheel when I was turning for a while until I got used to it.

    80° is pretty warm. With the lower mph it looks like lower tq. You loose a good bit of tq in the heat, ecu pulls timing. Intercooler up grade will fix that

    • @AutoLust

      Thanks for supporting the channel family, but I already have a Wagner intercooler upgrade. After the first two runs I'm sure it was heat soaked and went down hill from there with 80° weather.

    Maybe try Pagid 2 piece rotors (120ea) they should be a few lbs lighter. Caliper itself is lighter than stock caliper. Also heat/lower quality fuel make enough difference sometimes. Possible boost leak as well

    • @AutoLust
      @AutoLust  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your support. I never use anything but top tier certified fuels in my cars and I checked for a charge pipe leak but it could also be a leak somewhere else. I'm definitely going with a lighter set of rotors when the current ones are out of use.
