The issues I have with the workshop are: The menu is always filled with 1 dad vs 11 kids, 18+ friendly or widow hs only. Its the same boring stuff copy and pasted. Blizzard need to promote/feature new popular modes on the arcade at least once a month. Finally the tools creators have to work with look so unpolished, everything is just a different coloured orb or circle.
also not to mention a better report system for this game mode. bc saying "18+" does not stop kids from joining. like the way ppl need to keep freaky ahh shi in private messages (with another adult ofc)
I've been working on a pure 6v6 mod. Have gotten a lot of people to play it. Great changes too like genji having a dot effect on strikes...reworks etc.
I'm going to be absolutely slaughtered for this, but I wish that Blizzard took all of the resources that they put into PVE into The Workshop and a map editor instead. There is quite literally endless potential to be found in this engine if players were given more of the tools they needed to create more modes and add new features and mechanics. And seeing what the team did with Talantis in Season 4 only made me wish I could create my own custom map even more. Combine that with fixing and adding to the incentives for playing Custom Games and it could be so much more than it is now, it's not even funny. There's still a lot that we can do with the current Workshop we have today, but I sincerely hope we get a much more flushed out Custom Game experience eventually.
I would agree if not for the fact that the literal entire point of OW2 was PVE. IMO, they should've just made the PVE experience it's entirely own game and then just updated OW1 into OW2 with things like a map editor for custom games. It's not like Blizzard are a small indie company. They have the resources to do this and since they're so money hungry, they would've made WAY more money if the PVE was its own game for like 20-30 bucks (and bigger than what we got of course).
Thank you for bringing this up. I myself is a workshop content creator and I pretty much have given up on making new workshops due to the reasons you mentioned. I've mostly just been updating workshops nowadays. As I didn't feel as motivated to make new workshop content nowadays The recent 4 map reworks also broke many of the parkour maps. Just wished they Devs at least kept the old version of the maps so we don't have to update anything.
theres a custom game that i have been working on for nearly 5 years continuing to update it and play it with friends and with the little updates and support workshop has received i recently realized i could just as well attempt to turn this game that iv worked on and updated for so long into a real actual game that people could play outside of overwatch. only issue would be recreating overwatch's existing basic engine as well as trying to maintain online servers since all i have is a 10 year old xbox and barley functioning laptop, which is why i loved the workshop since i didnt need super powerful hardware to run it, which to make my own game i will need not only an actual pc but a good one
8:59 I agree with this, right now the only game I can think of is Overwatch's "Sharks & Middles" game where the Reins (sharks) chase the targets. I hate how countless creators tend to make certain heros broken, most infamously Tracer with unlimited blinks, recalls and higher speed but with less hp to """BaLaNcE""" her, and other characters mainly Lucio with higher speed and jumps, Sombra with unlimited cloak and lastly a Doom with unlimited ultimate. This also didn't help that Blizzard never bother to add any "friendly fire disable/ friendly collison disable" to prevent infighting cause I seen a lot of Reins infighting. (It was mainly because they're too much of a baby to fault themselves getting caught). My other terrible experience is Hide & Seek, where mainly lot's of makers made the characters small and didn't bother to disable certain characters, like Echo, since she was small and can fly, I've saw a lot of Echo that will abusive the out of bounds holes then fly to unreachable spots that the seekers couldn't reach.
Sombra with unlimited cloak is just a Blizzard error, they can't even fix a hero properly and perma stealth is still a thing internally, the cooldown is just set to something long
The fact that OW2 introduced so many bugs that still exist today and their response was to add projectiles. It’s like I’ll take it, but it doesn’t solve my problems
I've made my fair share of workshop modes. My problem with the workshop is that the maker is limited and anything unique is pushed down the browser by the 1000th friendly lobby.
Workshop user here, I have many novel ideas for Workshop games, but I fear they’ll never see the light of day with how it went from mainstream to niche… 😢 I always hoped the Workshop got more intricate when Overwatch 2 released, but at this point, I’m wishing for it…
wasn't there only 2 people or something working on workshop at the end of overwatch 1? Also Iirc some of these people left after overwatch 2 release. The team had very few people dedicated to the mode.
I can understand why it didn’t survive when you compare it to Fortnite unreal editor that is literally unreal engine with no limitations you can upload your own models and it’s all in Fortnite but you still need to follow the copyright laws
I'm too stupid to use the Workshop :( I wanna make stuff like Ramattra boxing and Sigma dodgeball, but I can't do much beyond low cooldowns and low gravity. I even had the idea of combining movesets--like a mobile Roadhog or a character with multiple guns to swap between--but I have no idea how to anything like that. Custom maps would be AMAZING. Limitless potential. I would do nothing but make custom maps if they brought that into the Workshop. You remember that underwater Talon base they made on stream and allowed us to play for a little bit?? We could be getting a constant influx of fan-made maps that the devs like enough to actually put into the official rotation!!!
Like an arcade mode where players get to play on the most popular fan made maps cycled every month or something like that? That would be a dream come true for me, and I'm sure many others too.
To give some boomer overwatch history the old aim trainer before was custom games vs all bot ana head shot only the ana couldn't head shot you so you took zero damage it wasn't perfect but its all we really had.
I've seen really creative workshop modes in the past months but those didn't really take off or get played a lot that's why I feel bad for the people who spent so much time and effort in making them. Blizz should have been promoting those and turning it into actual arcade modes but they just didn't care for anything that doesn't give them money. Really sad.
My biggest gripe with the workshop, besides the lack of support from Blizzard, is how unrewarding it is to make very complex modes. Not only does it take forever with the menus, but I’ve stopped working on modes because they’ve started to crash because of too many things (I still have a trailer for a mode up on my channel that I stopped working on and I’m unsure if I’ll ever work on it again, but I would like to). The worst part is if you get through the time sink and constant crashes, players would rather play simple modes than complex modes. It’s a shame.
for me, it died because it stopped getting updates. I used to spend a lot of my playtime making workshop modes for fun, but I eventually tried all ideas, and couldn’t easily expand without new features. ever since season 4, the last season in which the workshop received an update, I have been begging for pathfinding for dummy bots - it’s literally the only thing I need to get back into messing around. there are also other things I’d like to see as new features of course, but bot pathfinding is the be-all end-all
i wouldnt even be mad if they monetized the workshop somehow to make it worth putting dev time into. itd suck, but itd be better than no workshop updates at all
You're videos are great and everything but I had to come to your channel to see if you uploaded anything, not sure if its because you havent uploaded in a few days so you got buried or what. Just something I wanted to say because Id love to see you make more content
This reminds me a bit like Age of Empires workshop mods. AOE2 mods tho kept growing along the time, for some reason the people there kept making and making mods, from full campaigns with voices and even fully redesigned buildings or civilizations that ended up giving those guys whom made those things into official developers, even a group called Forgotten Empires ended up becoming a real thing working along Microsoft when Aoe2 Definitive Edition got published in 2019. The workshops will always be an user thing, as OW and AOE2, Blizzard and MS didn't do shit, but the latter took many years in noticing that the community was still alive and the ones that made really good mods ended up working for them and they still do since now we'll get a new DLC. Is perseverance? Luckiness? Anything? OW workshop system is shit tho, if it were more user friendly (like being able to test and having the settings to the next of the preview and being able to tweak things without having to restart or going back and re-code would be great for example).
The fact that Halo Infinite has so much less players than Overwatch and their custom games is more popular in their community than custom games in the Overwatch community is crazy
Idea: reward creators legacy credits for the amount of people playing Their custom games, that way blizzard doesn’t lose out on micro transactions and creators are rewarded
The issues I have with the workshop are:
The menu is always filled with 1 dad vs 11 kids, 18+ friendly or widow hs only. Its the same boring stuff copy and pasted.

You can’t beat “MAUGA N!PPPE PVE” though
I've been working on a pure 6v6 mod. Have gotten a lot of people to play it. Great changes too like genji having a dot effect on strikes...reworks etc.
I was always wondering why people stopped talking about Workshop stuff once OW2 started.
Bc the game itself isn't worth talking anymore
I'm going to be absolutely slaughtered for this, but I wish that Blizzard took all of the resources that they put into PVE into The Workshop and a map editor instead. There is quite literally endless potential to be found in this engine if players were given more of the tools they needed to create more modes and add new features and mechanics. What we lost: A passionate side project keeping the community updated with many fresh and new things to do
What we gained: another Kiriko skin
you forgot to mention they worked with workshop devs to create that one Medieval mode where you fight a Evil demon rein
i think bounty hunter was also a workshop mode
@@swagglesworth33 mirrored deathmatch is also an arcade mode
Still sad about the day they got rid of "s3xual harrasment simulator" also known as "blizzard employee simulator" :(
Lol, when did they rename it that 💀
As a dedicated player for both games, seeing the difference between Overwatch & Fortnite's custom games and how they're treated is really depressing.
Thank you for bringing this up. I myself is a workshop content creator and I pretty much have given up on making new workshops due to the reasons you mentioned.

Yeah, I used to make modes but have also lost motivation.
i feel you there

It’s funny cuz you wouldn’t think they exist but I know people who just load up OW to hop on mercy parkour….
any other mauga nipple pve fans here?
I just wish for the love of god that they update the workshop! Rip the workshop I guess it'll probably never see that light of day again😭😭😭😭😭😭
The fact that OW2 introduced so many bugs that still exist today and their response was to add projectiles. It’s like I’ll take it, but it doesn’t solve my problems
great vid, i think all the new mercy pakour maps are helping new players browse through custom games :)
I've made my fair share of workshop modes. My problem with the workshop is that the maker is limited and anything unique is pushed down the browser by the 1000th friendly lobby.
7:00 that's literally me you wouldn't understand. Genjiball mentioned!

I launch overwatch to play random ability’s for like 2 hours(or some other fun game mode if there are no servers)
My first fresh video since binging your content. Keep being amazing!

drinking game! take a shot everytime he says “workshop”!!
If workshop gave XP, no matter how much, I'd enjoy it much more. I have hundreds of hours, but now I just use it to experiment with the AI.
