I have this bike for few days. I I'm not professional rider. I didn't ride bike 15 years. This bike is my first mountain bike. I'm 1.78cm 99kg. Size of the bike L and for me is perfect. Everything working really nice and smooth. I don't know nothing about other bikes but I live this bike so much.
Been wanting to get back into MTB (I've been a road/gravel man for the last few years) and after some research decided on this bike. It certainly looks the best value on paper. The spec is unrivalled at this price. I wasn't sure about the colour, but I like the geometry. So I managed to order one online a few days ago. It was only available at one of the further away stores, but I reckoned it was worth the trip. Picked it up today. Decided to build myself as the store couldn't manage to do it until the 9th. Pretty straightforward apart from someone who'd mangled the adjustment nuts on the seatpost. Had to resort to a hammer to free them! Took it out for a blast this evening and WOW! It feels responsive, fast (even on the road), stable and comfortable. On the granny ring I was able to get up a roughly 45 degree incline out of the saddle and I reckon highest gear could take you to around 20mph as a guess. I was encouraged to try a couple of small jumps and hops. Just kerb height, ease her in! I can see this bike being conducive to a bit of hooliganism, frivolity, high-jinx and general tomfoolery. Couple of little teething problems right now are clicking back disc (adjustement needed?), and a very slight wobble to front wheel out of the box-probably less than 2mm. It could be the tyre or maybe needs trued. Also if your feet are size 10 or over your heel may hit the rear derailleur cable. I fixed this by cable tying the cable to the frame. Overall I'm really pleased with the bike so far. I had so much fun on my little outing this evening. Even managed to pick up THREE separate dog poos on the brand new tyres in less than an hour! It's difficult to see where the company are saving money with the components. It could be the wheels. They seem as though they're robust though. Maybe the hubs. No branding on them that I can see. It could be the frame, but again it looks nice. The welds are good. The cables are routed on the outside of course. Maybe this decreases cost. That's about the only thing I don't like about this bike, but then it makes replacement easier. You can't have it all I guess. But I can't help feeling top routing would have been better. No biggie! They've probably saved money with the seat, but it was entirely comfortable on my 1 hour ride. The dropper post is cable operated not hydraulic, but perfectly functionable. The pedals are bad though. Out of the box the bearings are gritty. Will need replaced soon. The grips are cheap, firm but grippy. Not sure what they'll be like in the wet yet. One other good thing about the bike -and something I wasn't able to tell before getting it- is tyre clearance. It's generous. Without measuring it, there looks like even more clearance for the rear tyre than with the forks. Should get a 2.6 inch in no problem. Possibly more. I haven't measured the rims or checked to see if the specs are printed on, but they look about 25mm width. I suppose the company that sells this is enticing you in with a good solid bike at an unbeatable price, then they try to upsell you with the servicing package. The guy in store was pretty convincing as to the benefits of the package. I'm undecided on that one at the moment. He says I have six weeks to decide. Looking forward to the full review on the bike! Unleash the Fury!
*Looked at a lot of options for getting my **Latest.Bike** . Great find in SAVA. Super light, nice components, really good value as it comes with many options only found in much higher priced bikes.*
Thanks for the quick review, this has now gone top of my choices, I’ve got up to £1150 to spend (Cycle2Work), so this bike with some upgrades might be best for me.
If you have a budget of 1.15k then u could get something miles better. I finally got my new bike last week (a 2020 marin sanquentin 2) for £900. Its barely been ridden, the tyres still have the tiny nobbly bits on, and the person who sold it to me had spent over £200 on upgrades
I've just upgraded to this bike from a Carerra Vengeance, it was between the 2020 fury and the Voodoo Bizango 29er. This bike caught my eye with the post/drive chain and tyres like you described, wider bars, bigger bike overall and i quite honestly am loving it right now. trusting this bike more and more with the responsive brakes and freedom to move around due to the dropper is great. some adjusting to the fork and i feel i'll be better off i'm sure. Few personal tweaks to the handlebar grips (GET THEM OFF) and your good to go. only con i have is i catch my heel on the back of the frame sometimes but that's due to size 11 feet and bad foot placement. Amazing bike so far, cant wait to see its full potential!! Amazing Review, look forward to the follow up Jon!
I just baught a Carrera hellcat 29er fresh out the box for £80 and I'm well happy haven't been biking for years so as a 40 year old dad of 3 baby boys I'm gone riding cheers lads👊
A nice 1st review. Can't wait for the full test! I was looking at the Vitus Nucleus - but this has the 1 by chainset whereas the Vitus has a 2x9, I loathe front derailleurs. And, of course, it has the dropper post - where the Vitus has routing for a dropper and this is slightly cheaper! Fantastic!
Hi Adam, we'll see what we can do on that one. The specification is a little different though. The Fury benefits from a dropper post, slightly better SR Suntour Raidon Air fork. The Sulcata gets a Suntour XCR fork which may be coil and heavier, it lacks a dropper post but it does get an extra gear. It looks to depend on whether or not you want that dropper post and air fork.
The question no one is asking and no one seems to be answering is.... where has the cost saving gone to? I am thinkigna about buying my first mountain bike
If your new into mountain biking and your not sure if your gonna go full into it or a part time hobby , exactly what is wrong with this bike ? Seems to have a lot of the stuff you'll need and for 600 quid it's reasonably priced . I don't know much about mountain biking so what would be wrong with getting one of these please ?
The way I see it the only thing "wrong" with this bike is the name. That, and the choice of downtube cable routing, though in reality it's probably not going to make much of a difference for most people. Maybe just makes cleaning a little more difficult/intensive. I never thought I would buy a Carrera myself, but the package just seemed to offer the best bang for the buck. Only thing I'm upgrading at the moment is the grips. Put it this way, if you saw that bike and it had a more desirable name, would you buy it?
Yes, well the supplied pedals aren't great. They felt gritty out of the box, but seem to have loosened up now after a few miles. My feet haven't slipped off them once though, and I've been on some gnarly routes/roots with plenty of mud both on my shoes and the pedals. So, I'll probably stick with them at the moment. I'm using them in conjunction with the Muddy Fox Flat 100 shoes (just to go the full budget route!), and so far they have been great! Seem to have plenty of grip on and off the bike (for when you need to push uphill). A nice stiff sole with room for your toes, and not too bad to walk in. They also clean up real easy. Would recommend to anyone looking for a 'proper' budget shoe.
As an owner of Carrera Vengeance, which I'm desperately hoping to upgrade soon, it does tick many of the entry-level requirements people now expect. Horrible looking grips! And it's not a remotely pretty bike, either. They're going to fly out the shop regardless. I'll look one over my local store has one in stock long enough.
I never thought a carrera would ever be good. I just hate the carrera owners. They think they’re so cool coz they can wheelie, and that’s the only trick they can do. I’m getting a calibre sentry for Christmas
