I got this model cheap as the 2024 model is now out. Love it. It's the best colour scheme. 'Rottweiler' colours! Grrr....Just put a dropper seat and SRAM AXS Eagle GX on it. Beautiful.
*Looked at a lot of options for getting my **Latest.Bike** . Great find in SAVA. Super light, nice components, really good value as it comes with many options only found in much higher priced bikes.*
Firstly, the presenting quality has been great from you and Rachel recently. Wasn't bad before, but they get better every time. Love the variety of your bike vids. Graphics are well done, and production values are very good (aside from the typo in head angle, lol). As for the bike, I used to have a great opinion of Boardman, but don't really see them as for me. Heard plenty of unhappy talk around them. Disclosure, I've never owned one. I also have a friend that loves hers, she spent around £1000 a few years back and thinks it is brill.
i was worried about the size but I can tell you that at 6 foot 2 the large one feels fine to me, it's not over sized but it doesn't feel small at all, I was pleasantly surprised by the size of it, really feels like a good bike too. I think it will be more fun off road than my XL carrerra vengeance was, it's a little lighter and the steering feels way snappier, better gears, brakes and tires too, all round seems like a sick bike!
I have the 2018 model and I'm 6ft4, I changed the handle bars to 780mm the fit feels much better downsides of this bike are the BB and wheel bearings I changed them to hope and now it's just right!
Thanks for that, nicely explained, nice video! Yeah I'm more of a distance guy doing more lighter trail routes or canal paths as opposed to doing the really gnarly full on off road trail stuff.. So this will probably suit me better in that respect. I have 3 Boardmans (actually 2 now) and 1 Basso bike and love the brand. I do a lot of road biking but also love multi day touring and gravel/adventure with my Boardman CXR 9.0. I've been looking at getting MTB and this could be a good option. Great value too! Also I prefer XC hardtail bikes over full sus
@Dal J had to change the whe crankset as water was getting into the pitting.. Can't remember what I put in but im sure I thought it was for a road bike at first haha its lasted well anyway..
My 2009 Boardman Comp finally needs replacing after getting a crack in the frame. It appears this MHT 8.9 has been around since 2020 and still being sold in July 2023.. is it about to be replaced with a new model?
Thank you for your videos and I have subscribed.I have been looking for a channel that gives good clear information about what all the different bicycles are made up from together with the prices. Exactly what I was looking for and thank you..
Great review, thank you. You said you're 172cm tall (approx 5' 8"). Boardman's sizing guide for this bike recommends the Large bike is suitable for users between 175 - 188 cm (5' 9" and 6' 2") but the Large was okay for you? I'm 5' 9" so should definitely go for a Large too, right? I had thought the Medium (5' 6" to 5' 11"). New to all this, sorry! Thanks!
Boardman website makes this reccommendations: - Small for riders 170-179cm - Medium for riders 177-183cm - Large for riders 181-189cm So if you are 5'9 you should go for a small. Medium may be okay although a bit of a push. If the reviewer said he was 172cm tall and rode a Large, he rode a bike with a completely wrong size for him. The bike doesn't look too big for him in the video so he either rode a medium frame, or he is taller than 172cm (maybe he meant 182cm?)
@@ZanziBarroso exactly something not right here has the sizings changed since this video was posted? this review is actually put me off considering this bike the sizing advice is bollox
Is this bike a little old now? Do you think they will upgrade it ??? I’m looking for a bike at £1k with majority riding on road / canal path with the odd trail once in a while. What would you recommend???
This is pretty new so probably not due an upgrade. Take a look here for other options - off.road.cc/content/buying/best-mountain-bikes-trail-hardtail-for-under-1000-budget-1543
hmmm, that's a tough one, both are quite different. The Boardman is a bit more of an XC hardtail but the Voodoo's geometry looks a bit reserved in trail bike terms. Some spec choices (brakes) are better on the Boardman for the money but you might expect to find the better kit on a hardtail vs a full sus. That suspension will take the sting out of the singletrack though when descending, but having not ridden the Voodoo it's hard to give you a definitive answer I'm afraid!
Head angle is 68 not 64. This is confirmed on boardmans website and is also typical for a modern XC bike like the high end Specialized epic pro. I'm also not sure the weight is correct, Boardman publish 13.2kg
Not a great review to be honest. I'm 6"2 and the bike is plenty big for me in large. It's an amazing ride for £1000, light, very fast. Literally the Ferarri of hardtails in this price range.
@@Hamburger-Gaming86 how is it? Everyone says to me its a huge bike. Funny since its only a large. I've never actually had an xl frame even at my height. I think it would only really put me further from the ground
The Bizango Pro will suit trail riding better with its more aggressive tyres and it as more suspension travel, so while I can't confirm it, it'll likely be heavier. The regular Bizango is a better comparison.
While I like the price/what u get but I've heared that there arealot of problems with SRAM SX Eagle, it looks to me that the Carrera Fury is the better option especially with the new Deore groupset, ok it's only 10-speed but 11-46 is awesome and shimano is a bit better in the low-tier groupsets (I'm using SRAM GX Eagle myself) als that bike does have a dropperpost and is £400 cheaper!
@@stevenewart3873I wholeheartedly agree. I have Apex 1 on my gravel bike, and at the beginning I had to bleed brakes a lot. Hi mate. You are 172cm You"re using L size frame ??? Why do you say there are only size S -M -L ???? If everywhere you can find XL size too ???? Where is the mistake ???

with how bad the quality of the Boardman bikes are, I strongly advice against buying one. Horrible tolerances, out of alignment BB shell, out of spec, paint that falls off easily. also they deny warranty, when frame clearly had out of spec BB shell that you could not even fit a BB into. Hambini did a video on a frame he had to fix. here is an example, one of Hambini's videos: th-cam.com/video/3l6EcBg9EPA/w-d-xo.html I can't call this good value.
I have the 2018 model and fitted a hope bb as the fsa didn't last 12 months it as a better cassette with ovel crank by race Face this allows a far better chain, wider bars are on this gives me better handling next is a set of hope wheels and better tyres ,the only thing thats Boardman now is the frame I'm happy with that !
