Man, it's now 2024 and Nic D has pulled over $74,000 a month now. And, what does he do? He goes and shares how to be as successful as he is. God bless your heart Bro. Thank you for dropping GEMS on us "starving musicians!" New Subscriber here!
Bro! I’m watching this in 2024 and I have to be honest! You just changed my life with this video!! I had so many issues and you touched on every single one of them! Making me realize I’ve been worried too much about the things the fans won’t even care about!!! Thank you for this video!!!
Independent artists on spotify give a thumbs up for yourself for making it this far and thank you Nic D for so much insights about spotify in the video
(Took some notes if anyone is interested) 5 Things Independent Artists Need To Learn To Go Viral 1. Post on all platforms -Not just TikTok -FaceBook Reels -Instagram Reels -*TH-cam Shorts (monetizing soon) 2. Release music frequently -Can’t make a living off of having 5 songs out -Cost efficiency -First 50 or so songs you release: $250 max budget per song -The current spotify payout per stream is .003 -.005 cents depending on what country the stream came from -Nic D Example: 1,000,000 streams per month = $4,000 per month from streaming -5 songs x 7,500 streams a day = 1,000,000 streams per month -100 songs x 350 streams a day = 1,000,000 streams per month -“Would you rather have 100 at-bats or 1 swing?” “Throw more darts, get more bullseyes.” -Your release strategy should be centered around releasing often and consistently. The more the better. -The more releases, the ability to create more content. 3. Prioritize the content over the music -Knowing your goals is crucial. Without this, it is like hitting a moving target. -If you want to live off of your music, you need to treat your music like a business. -“Being creative doesn’t make money, operating like a business does.” -Think of the content first, before you create the song -People want to be entertained -“What can entertain someone? How can I make a song to fit that idea?” -Create a list of great content ideas, then go back and create songs to fit the theme of the video. 4. Don’t obsess over the details -Done is better than perfect. -Nic D’s first song to go viral came after 75 releases -Don’t stress over the little things that don’t really matter. -Cover art -Create cover art in canva -Because you will continuously need cover art, keeping your costs as low as possible here will help you break even on your investment. -Mix -Your mix should sound good to the average listener, not to other musicians and engineers. -Only need to impress the listener -Playlists, blogs, and ads are not as important as they have been made out to be. Focus on content, audience, and consistency. 5. Surround yourself with like-minded people -“If you surround yourself with people who want to chill and play videogames all the time, you will most likely want to do the same” -You are the people you surround yourself with. Choose them carefully. p.s. Appreciate the advice Nic! Trying to put it in motion!!
"This is the only place where an artist who's actually doin it is teaching you how to do it." And that is exactly the most important thing in every one of these tutorials.
"sounding like they are recorded in a bath tub" you had my dying laughing at this one, also thank you so much for the advice, "THROW MORE DARTS HIT MORE BULLSEYE'S " ‼️🗣️
Just wanna say, what you are doing is absolutely invaluable. Recently discovered you and Connor and been studying your grind. Inspired me to put together a whole game plan of releasing music and content consistently for 2023. Finishing songs and creating content for the remainder of this year to have a head start and hit the new year with a bang. Just wanted to express my gratitude for lighting that fire within me!!!
Let’s go Nic I’m so glad you started this channel. As a content creator & musician myself, you & Connor are such big inspirations to me & I look forward to learn more here! 😎👏🏼
Luv it, biggest gem for me is the reverse engineering of thinking about what content would work with your audience and then to make a song that fits that🙌🏻
NIc, quite simply bro you are the torchlight right now! No one wants to admit it, but the old days are gone, and theres just no point in fighting the new. We've got to learn to enjoy what it is you are highlighting because you've proven that its the number 1 way to do this, and fast. Thanks for stepping up with the education content as well man, loved your interview with that cool guy in the kitchen and I for one am a new fan. Picky The Producer.
I have adhd & the way I feel about all the platforms is so overwhelming🥹. I wouldn’t consider myself an artist I just like to sing. I don’t use TH-cam as much as I should have if I would have stayed consistent. But I came here cause I loveeeeeee all your music & how authentic you are!! The way you’ve been consistently yourself & yourself only all the way through that. So talented! Thanks for this video looking forward to the everything here.
You say it so concisely, no beating around the bush like some other advice channels. A lot of artists think it’s luck to make a career out of music, and they tell me my situation is “luck” too, but I don’t believe it. I started releasing 9 months ago and am already making about 150 USD per month and I’m hoping by end of year to be closer to 1000 a month…All it takes is thinking about it like a business and not just a creative artist, which is where the majority of artists fail.
wow. it didn't feel like another 'how to' videos. it felt like we were having a conversation and it was so raw and capturing. thank you so much Nic, it blows my mind how driven you are, there's a lot to learn from you.
@@NebraskaStone no problem, you should keep making music! One day someday someone special will find you and you will explode everywhere and people will finally see you!! 😁😁😁 I did read somewhere usually singers get well known after 36 songs which is alot but you will get there one day! 😊
do you think an artist should perform live shows before he has a major audience (so he could create a lil buzz and maybe even gain practice) or after they have a demand for them to perform?
