I love these videos, Nic. These videos don’t need to be edited, I prefer the raw unedited videos because I feel like you’re talking to me directly instead of different clips pieced together. Please continue to make content like this, we appreciate the gems and advice 😊
Dude thanks for making this. As a young rapper I always wanted to be the next biggest thing, I wanted to just be on Wayne & Drakes level. But as I’ve created for the past 10 years I realized even if I never become the “most commercially” successful artist, I just wanna make a living off what I love. I try to be mindful of where I’m at cause I got 6k monthly listeners & i get paid regularly little amounts from my catalog & the best feeling is knowing it’s off the hard work I’ve put in over the past 10 years learning to produce, mix, master, record; write, & everything else. Now it’s time to grow it to 100,000 in 2024
@@Joaox10_ dude thank you bro, I was just talking about how hard of a day / week it’s been & times like this I feel like a “loser” based off societies standards. Your comment couldn’t have came at a better time
Daily’s would be great. Your strategies just got me past 2K monthlys for the first time & 10K streams in a month. Small for most people but the progress means a heap 🎉
I m a new independant artist and I m so stressed with the whole marketing thing, currently watching so many videos everyday and man fuck. This video was all I needed, thank you, I actually feel my peace of mind again
You will never get to Spotify s bigger playlists , just in the smallest 1 or 2 times per year, I get there, 1k listeners for a week or 2 and thats all! Release as much as you can, weekly if it us possible, and make thousands of very good playlists of your own, with similar genre big artists mixed with your songs. It s fire.
This video makes me feel better his whole purpose is music that’s it nothing else matter. I been so lost for past 4 years, making music and putting on Soundcloud that’s all I can afford I used to be refugee and no family to support my dreams so I stay home instead of going out party. Almost everyday make music by dreaming even if can’t party people must party with my song one day. This year I got a chance to distribute my 4 years worth of songs (40 tracks from deep, percussion, tech house genres all are experiments) in one album i named it “Tiltle? Meh, Maybe later” and i named all my track in numbers instead of names because all I want is music I dont care naming them. Hopefully one day my dream will come true I really want world to enjoy my music.
I’ve been listening for only one and a half months and my listeners went from under 100 to almost 1000 today . Disclaimer I am a lifelong artist and musician who was at the point in my career where much like Nick says I just neeeded a switch flipped with how I was thinking . Forever grateful to u and your team and Connor . Everything is beginning to happen quickly just in one month I’ve even landed my first brand deal with an on brand music production company . I took what u teach and also started releasing my instrumentals (I produce my music) and was able to tie the instrumental into content with my favorite plugin company and voila . I share this in hopes someone else is wondering about nics advice and in my opinion I put his word up there with other 🐐 s like Gary Vee . Appreciate u and thanks for letting me share
I released my first single on the 15th of jan 2024 and already have 41 monthly listeners , my shit dope ! gonna release some otha shit soon, these videos really were the motivation i needed
Found you on TikTok, listened to you on Spotify/Apple and have played you on repeat on days I feel like jammin' your stuff. It's working man! I've been in radio for over a decade. To see how artists can operate in this landscape of streaming and socials, you are doing a damn good job man. Keep it up and I can't wait to hear more. Heck, while listening to this video, I went to Release Radar and boom, paused this and listened to "East Coast", it's working!
Yessirrr I’m at where Connor was when y’all met. Nice to meet you. 2024 is going to be huge. Keep these coming bro.. how many of the 116K first day came from release radar? 👁
DAMN! 100K first day no promo is OD. I feel like I could get there easily if I just drop MORE. Appreciate the video fr tho. Only question is how do you, Connor and GRAHM cross promote so well? I want to get on that wave with my producer hunna g this year. Would be interested in y'all thought process with branding that and the content strategies.
Need to start daily. I’ve been making music for over 10 years, I remember releasing mixtapes on datpiff and SoundCloud when those were the incumbent platforms in the space. Converting my strategy to creating content has been difficult, but fun to say the least. I’m about to turn 29 years old and I can’t imagine spending my life doing anything other than making music. Like these with success like yours believe I’m just a video away. Thank you for the support and motivation.
your approach to making music for a living is absolutely inspiring brother. Discovered you a few weeks ago and hearing the way you view the music business so logically has completely changed my mindset for the better. Appreciate you and every bit of your content i’ve come across.
We're all so thankful for these types of videos. Just the fact that you aren't someone who gatekeeps means a ton to not just me but everyone else. Thanks Nic, and daily videos would be great
Yes, please keep them coming. Can you touch on content creation and songwriting? How to not run out of ideas and most of all, not judging ourselves and what we create. Thanks! You’re changing lives, mine included ✨
Nic stays consistent with the info he gives that’s how you know it’s real. I’m trying to get to a small level of his success. Good luck in your music journey everyone!
Please make more of these videos. I’ve listened to your book 3 times already. Currently at 16k monthly listeners and looking forward to growing that in 2024
Thank you so much for this! It’s changed my entire perspective on how to make music! And it’s also helped me break down road blocks I’ve placed in my own way as a musician. I’ve been binge watching everything and I’m gonna start with this strategy and see what happens! I might even blog about the process! Thank you 🙏🏾
Great advice. In marketing, my clients #1 concern is always ‘Overloading people’. My response, “First. You’re not that special. Second. Don’t invade their personal space.” Overload them with destinations/places they can find you. Don’t email them about EVERY new song. Create an ocean of songs they can land in and explore. And…Organize playlists and albums to create order and familiarity to new listeners.
Thanks, some TH-camrs are saying that you should release 3 to 4 weeks I've even heard 6 weeks in between releases. I always felt releasing more frequently made more sense. I'm also going to look into getting your book thanks.
Could you please make videos about how to come up with content? Examples, methods you use, etc? I'd love to try your method but the step "make content" is just too abstract for me rn. Thank you for all your insights, you're a gem
I understand the importance of releasing music frequently, but I'm curious about strategies to effectively engage listeners and achieve at least 1,000 plays within a month, especially when operating on a limited budget and time constraints due to other responsibilities in my music side hustle
This is wonderful advice. Nick, but I do think maybe you should touch upon the fact that playlists are good for new fans to discover you. That was the only thing I think that started to veer me. But I always love your advice man. Keep up the good work brother
Thanks Nic, loved the transparency and straight talk. No fluff. I subbed and got the book. Hoping to apply some of the methods and continue learning. Wishing everyone the best on their journey as well.
The only thing that “stops” me from releasing more frequently is my stubborn need to only release the BEST songs. I don’t like the thought of releasing a little throwaway track. I want my catalogue to be undeniably great, even if my taste isn’t your taste, I still want you to be able to respect it. I’m a bit of an over the top perfectionist if you couldn’t tell lmao. I don’t know how to get over it and tbh I don’t know if I even DO want to get over it because the thought of releasing sub par music is fucking awful too me. But I do need to and want to release more frequently. But the songs I work on take a lot of time. It’s a sticky one tbh but I do this to myself 😂
Btw, I don’t think it’s a fear of failing, I just want to be one of the absolute best artists to live. I want to change music and leave a massive footprint in music history
for real though man, this is gold...like so many dudes out there try to get you into their little funnel system and pay them for this sort of practical, pragmatic advice....I've been creating for a decade and finally feel like I'm in a place to actually put all these suggestions to good use
Thank u, I’ve never released anything and I finally gotten to a point where I feel good about the music I’m creating. Never been big on social media but knowing that I have to use it is kinda comforting seeing as artists like you are literally walking us through how u did it. Preciate you 💯

Glad I stumbled across this video.
currently running out of angles to film in my house, think i might have to buy a barn! I post about a song a week, right now, catching up on making videos for them all. What are your thoughts on posting the song on streaming platforms and video on youtube at the same time? Instead of trying to build tension by dropping one before the other?
Yo Nic, thanks for the video bro! Question, could you talk a little bit what your best investments were along the way - most worthwhile piece of gear, most helpful learning resource you came across, etc?
Thanks for the video. I keep hearing people say "release content" on socials. But I see very little about what they mean. What are some examples? (I create children's music, so it's pretty tricky… Children aren't on socials and their parents are often too busy with young children to spend a lot of time on social media.)
I've been adapting this new strategy a couple of months ago, I made this new goal to release a song every month. I will try to kick it in next gear and do it twice a month or even weekly. Facts on pitching songs. Spotify only lets you pitch one song at a time, slowing down releases if you’re doing it for editorial playlists.
Bro please.... What's " pitching a song" ?????
