  • Leatherman Arc : The ultimate multitool put to the test! Leatherman is known for producing some very high quality products that are built to last. The Arc is the first multitool to use CPM Magnacut stee for the knife blade and the steel
Has the potential to be a game changer for a multitool. Due to the use of the premium blade steel it comes with a premium price as well. In this video we discuss the good, the bad and also do some real world testing to see how it will perform. Do you own any Leatherman Multitools, if so which ones do you have?

The Arc is worth every penny to me. With the better blade steel I don’t have to carry another knife with me if I don’t want or need to that day. As far as the price I see a lot of people that wouldn’t think twice about dropping $300 on a Jack Wolfe or even higher for a Benchmade and the like. Don’t get me wrong I love my knives too but $230 bucks doesn’t look so bad considering you’re getting way more versatility out of Leatherman than a single blade knife.

I love that you said that it cost less than some knives with MagnaCut only and no tools. That’s what I’ve been saying. There are plenty of knives $300-$400. To me that alone speaks to its value.

I used to have Swiss Army Knives when I was younger (probably lost 6 of the larger ones) The I had a knockoff Leatherman that broke the piires in half (it was a gift)
I had no multi-Tool for many hears I I was self employed and rove a van that was a rolling tool box (It had ONE seat :) (I was on call 24-7 as well)
Now I'm retired and really wanting a Leatherman! :) It will be my first ... Love the Arc (Can't see carrying a multi with TWO blades :( ) And love the scissors .. the price doesn't bother me (until I lose it) :).. but frankly I am waiting they start making the proper cutter inserts.
if not say by Feb .. I will check out aftermarket cutter insets, seen a couple here on TH-cam so far that look better than the stock .."Don't cut coat hanger" ones :)

ARC is so terribly expensive that for its price you can buy a modular GOAT tool version with all possible additional improvements. I even thought about it, although I live in Poland and would have to order from the USA.
ARC is nice, but it suffers from "children's disease".
Replaceable cutter blades suck, small additional tools placed inside often fall out. Nice tool, but definitely too expensive to pay that much extra for a Magnacut blade. Especially when someone carries a multitool in a backpack and a larger knife folder in their pocket.
    For now, nothing beats Victorinox.
Personally, I would rather buy the powerful Surge and replace its main blade with one made of any other steel, even M390.
We do this in Poland, where many knifemakers make additional tools for the Surge, because it is the largest and has a lot of space for it.

The ARC is going to be a no go for me. It’s a nice tool. But anything it adds over the multitools I have already is slight. I’m not swayed by the MagnaCut blade. I rarely use the blade on my multitool. And I found that I rarely used the bit holder on my Charge. I primarily use a multitool for the pliers and screwdrivers. And to a lesser extent, the other available tools. My current rotation of a Leatherman Surge and P4 and my full size SwissTool work for me just fine. I will add that my P4 has some handle play. But not anywhere as much as that ARC.

@clarkkent4608 I have both VI ST X and Spirit X for EDC; both are amazing and both live in compact belt sheaths. ST X is my favorite due to its ruler and better scissors. I would say that LM Skeletool is the biggest tool worth wearing on a clip; VI STs are much bulkier, thicker and heavier, even the smaller one. And for me, exchangeable bits kind of destroy the idea of a multitool, a compact all-in-one marvel as an opposite to a toolbox. Besides, LM Arc is ridiculously expensive for a tool to really use it as a tool not as a shelf artefact. Summarizing the above, I would buy VI ST MX.
