5 months of drawing now and I'm catching up to you Kirsty. At age 41 I've learned that I can draw. It still blows my mind. All your tips have been very helpful.
I'm 57 now and started a few years ago. I had never drawn in my life before and my friends and family are amazed by what I've drawn. Many people think that there's some sort of magic behind it, but anyone can draw...it just takes LOTS of patience and a passion for it.
I have started using colour pencils recently as a hobby, and your videos inspire me so much. It's so relaxing to watch you develop a piece of art, and I wish to reach this level some day 🥺
Oh, this is too funny and perfect! After sifting through many bird photos on Google, I settled on one, sketched it out and decided I want to use it to work on my coloured pencil techniques. I've been subscribed to your channel for a while now, and always really appreciate your work and what you have to say. So I started watching a playlist of your coloured pencil videos, and don't I land on this one - we worked from the exact same reference photo! Perfect! Couldn't have been a more helpful video! :P Lol I apologize for the rambling comment. I just love these moments that remind me how connected we all actually are, especially in these funny, neat little ways! Much love from Canada! Wishing everyone good health!
love how vibrant the colours ended up and as a bird owner I am impressed how little work is actually needed in the feathers to make a realistic-looking bird~
Kirsty's graphite drawing tutorials have illuminated so much. So have her watercolor tutorials. She is wonderfully talented and her voiceovers well-augment her work.
We have belted kingfishes in my part of the world. I used to live on the coast, in a house on a bay, right in an area where a lot of waterfowl spent their winters...there were so many birds of all kinds - kingfishers, herons, eagles, swans, and ducks, ducks, ducks. I had my drawing table set up so that I had a good view of the water, and binoculars handy. The kingfishers were my favorites to watch. These English kingfishers, they must be so beautiful to see, with those bright turquoise feathers.
Having just posted a comment - I want to add the note that animals are favorite subjects. Kirsty's talent spans far and wide.lbfrom animals to people, etc. Thank you.
Love your image btw.....I have done this type of bird in Ink and coloured pencil from my own refs. I had one sit for me for literally an hour or more...very lucky x
hello Kirsty, have you thought about doing a fish? like ppl who always show animals fur or feathers, but never scales of a fish or reptile. maybe a goldfish or some of our natural course fish like rudd or roach, they are beautiful. it would be a good idea for nature drawers, loved this kingfisher BTW really helped me out and give me confidence when I try it myself ;) x
First of all great painting! Your tutorials are some of the best out there. The speed combined with your voice over are for me perfect! Please don't change a thing. Thanks for sharing.
Stunning drawing!😊Just did this one myself.I really appreciate your content and I've learned a lot from you. Thanks so much and keep doing the amazing work!😘
After watching this phenomenal tutorial I had to subscribe!!!! I love how you blended and made it look like a painting instead of colored pencil. AMAZING!!!!!
This is crazy impressive the amount of detail and layers that went into this drawing. I can not imagine how much time and effort went into this. It has me interested in using solvents to blend colors into a drawing. I am curious what kind of paper would you have to use to make something like this?
the portrait is really exquisite, i just wanted to point out a lil detail the top and body is gr8 , but the leg can have some work and even though its standing on a bark r a branch the branch too can have some work done, as only those parts might be ruining ur masterpiece . i tried it with ur video, and i just noticed it . BTW it looks damm good..... i love it dear😁😘
OMG YOUR SUCH AN AMAZING ARTIST!!! Thank you so much for all the technique that you share with us!!! Using your technique has improve my art work so much!! I tried to share all the technique that i learn from you to all my friends. And they were loving it so much like how I did!!!
Well, I came here out of an interest to try colored pencil. When it comes to drawing I’ve only done pencil works portraits and such. I will say the one tip you have given on blending with solvent, I only have paint thinner on hand and the brand of pencils is amazon 120 pencil set for 23.00 and they blend great. Thanks for the tips.
Thank you so much for teaching us with these much detail. I'm a professional artist, mainly use acrylic colours. But recently I bought some colour pencil, as I wanted to explore and challenge my abilities but I was very nervous. Then I came across your channel and found this video and I followed everything you told step by step and it came out gorgeous 😘 I just can't believe that it came out so well and people also loved it. Thanks againg, keep making videos, best wishes and love from India ❤️
Oh! I think I've seen the ref photo on unsplash. I used it for an illustrator course. You did a great job replicating it :) Edit: Just checked. Yup, it's Boris Smokrovic's photo in Unsplash.
I want to know about the solvent u used to enhance your art ? And what other substitute material can we use if we don't find that solvent. .. Your art is amazing 😍😍😍 Love from Nepal 🇳🇵
Kirsty made this video that covers how to use solvent: th-cam.com/video/63cTfjEmUCw/w-d-xo.html As far as alternatives to the solvent she uses, you could also use Gamsol, Mona Lisa Order-less Mineral Spirits, or even some thinners used for oil painting like Linseed Oil. Hope this is helpful!
Sorry to bug I’m still working on my drawing of this bird and was hoping you might do a demonstration on backgrounds? More specifically the kitten drawing where the background is blurred.
It looks stunning, however I feel this is more a... display of your artistic abilities rather than a "step by step drawing tutorial". I was hoping this would help me learn more about actually drawing a bird; explaining how to draw and position feathers, showing how to shade and highlight, etc.
She did, she outlined what you really need to know. If she explained how to position feathers that would be ingraining bad habits. How everything is arranged is dictated by breed and your reference photo. Your brain will try to lie to you and simplify everything. If you pay more attention to how you were told something is or how you think it is it will often make the piece far less then it otherwise could be. If you simply follow the reference or model if you are drawing from life it will often be much better. And for shading and highlighting fir and feathers often move in clumps and clusters. The things you want her to go into are things that she cannot teach you well it will be learned by following your references rather then what your brain tells you and making lots of art. Making lots of art is the biggest thing here if you don't really understand what she is saying here it means you need to make more art.
Cheryl CV yeah, but ain’t nobody got time for looking on her website (which you have to pay for) to see a step by step. It’s best if she just shows it IN THE VIDEO. I’m a little mad because I’m just a beginner at drawing and I just want to learn how to draw a bird!
Alanah Houston Well there are some great books on amazon, I actually just bought one for bird and flower illustration in colored pencil, oh but wait you want free, perhaps ur local library.
Beautiful bird, wish I knew where you find your reference. Wish you had a little bit more direction on the drawing part. Unfortunately, I'm low income so I cannot afford your classes. Where do you suggest I go online or in TH-cam to get the drawing training?
When you finish blending with the solvent, how long do you usually let it dry before putting on other layers? I'm blown away by the way:) your videos are so helpful

Congratulations don't stop one sees more progress on month no. 16-28
wow you guys are old.
Jeff C you really never drew for 50 years
Good job with your drawing
I am surprised at the low number of views. That Kingfisher is beautifully drawn and coloured.
I know right💯
It might be because it is so good it's intimidating as a how to vid lol
Really it's looking awesome...
I wouldn't call nearly 400K views a "low number."
Same

Do you remember where to find that picture or which one it was? Thank you in advance :)

Thanks for all your tips! I’m following your method and it’s very helpful.

Thank you very much. I like to use a heavyweight paper when using solvent. Watercolour paper is a great option as well :)

Not finding the sketch tutorial in description - that's exactly what I needed!
Finding the right things is so hard 😅🥲
