I think that the story of bad trip was supposed to be simple, but I liked that the movie didn’t need more to carry momentum of the pranks. It was at least an hour and a half of solid pranks and reactions and i enjoyed it for what it was.
I'm honestly annoyed on the "Bad Trip" take. A big hook of the joke was they're acting out a terribly cliche road trip buddy comedy. Like, when the girl walked into the smoothie place Eric starred at her like the "That's the girl of my dreams" moment but he's doing that while strangers are standing in front of him trying to order. It's not just that the story was bad but it was really on the nose with overused generic story beats that are being used as a vehicle to harass people in public. I think the only thing that bothered me is none of the reactions were as good as reactions he gets on his Adult Swim show.
What's sad about what Derrick said in regards to the new Aquaman swimming, I guarantee they sat around and went "That looks DUMB, it'd look way more EPIC if he just propelled himself through water instead of swimming". Studios are single-handedly just reducing visual storytelling down to a handful of things because they "look cool".
So regarding you guys predicting the future. I recently saw an old podcast from Roccos living room, where Rocco straight up invented the Nintendo switch. You guys are definitely prophetic gamers from way back.
after the 519 I took a break from the podcast. Bit burned out and thought the calls were being handled poorly which ended up being a hurdle for callers not being weird. It's actually great seeing how the podcast is going now. I hope other people like myself give it another chance
Good lord, Rocco actually made Derrick and Shawn watch the Snyder Cut for Movie Club? Welp, guess this could be it, then. We're witnessing the beginning of the end of Mega64, folks. It's been a hell of a ride.
If you’ve seen half a movie you haven’t seen the movie, that’s how I feel. Feel free to say THE FIRST HALF of Wonder Woman is better than THE FIRST HALF of Snyder cut. But to compare a movie you’ve seen to a movie you haven’t holds no water
I am a data analyst and build algorithms that do shit like automatically tag videos etc. (not exactly this, but it is the same almost everything behind it) You can think of it analogous to how a spam filter works - something said some word or phrase or something enough times and a big combination of different things you said lead to the algorithm thinking you *likely* are spam, or misinforming people, and it will tag it as such. Overall accuracy is only one measure of the algorithm's performance. There is also precision and sensitivity (aka recall). Precision is here would be what % of the flagged videos are actually misinforming people. Recall would be what % of the misinforming videos were successfully flagged. There is of course a trade-off between precision and recall. More precise model => less sensitive. More sensitive => less precise. TH-cam is probably prioritizing recall, and is interested in flagging as many videos containing misinformation as possible, so it will flag based on almost anything. The trade off is again lower precision, so some of the videos that are not really misinforming anyone (such as yours) will also get flagged.
You can't forget Dane Cook was good because he was one of the first to do what he did at his level. People were influenced by it and now it's everywhere with tons of people doing it. But it was new and thats why we all loved it. Now it's basic and we moved on but back in the day it was fresh to the scene and great original comedy. The vibes he gave were new. Just like Ali G and Mega64 with awkward real situations. The originals
The 2000s will be known for video games and gadgetry The 2010s will be known for emojis and apps and the 2021 Mega64 Podcast will be known for Mr. Bean vs. Benny Hill
52 Min in, Derrick, I think what you're trying to say is that we can exploit our own human behavior/conditioning by augmenting AI to guide us to a higher human experience than mere consumerism?
I agree with most of the stuff you guys said about Bad Trip, but I can't help but think any conversation about mixing story with in public prank/reaction elements mixed in is incomplete without having seen Nirvana the Band the Show. I seriously consider Borat, Mega64, and NtBtS to be the three pillars of the genre.
I can imagine youtube and other sites are extra stingy when it comes to Area 51 due to the whole raid meme. that could've gone really bad and luckily it didn't
46:04 You guys are being slapped in the face with reason after reason why this kind of fact-checking system is a bad idea, and you're still defending it
Something you guys you said a million years ago was that your stunts were things that shouldn't upset people and the comedy comes from the people that do react. I felt like the Eric Andre stunts were all on people that were all well meaning people trying to help and it was kind of a bummer. Some stuff was definitely funny but I also think Borat did that a lot better that the stunts were on people that set themselves up or they didn't even know they were being messed with.
I liked in Bad Trip that they were doing the non-prank scripted lines in public, I didn't expect that. The pranks were alright, you do get tired of them though.
Rocco really missed his chance with that Suez skit. He should have collapsed his hands limply around Derrick's hand and given him a variant of the ol' classic the "Botte Handshake".
This critique of the snyder cut on Derricks behalf, only proves that The Irishman is a shit movie as well, seeing as nothing fucking happens for 2 hours other than old actors, slightly CGI'd trying to relive their glory days.
Where is rocco seeing people discuss balan wonder world being money laundering? I googled it and I could only find 2 jokingly speculative tweets... I'm interested in this angle.
rocco "if i hate something i still want to participate in the conversation about it" You completely shot down derrick's board game thing a few podcasts ago, and thats not even a new thing. Just sit back and experience things you dont care for.
I was catching up on the last two podcasts the other night, and at the end of this one, when they mention Will.I.Am, I went and googled his name. How did they pseudo-predict his new announcement?? Just by invoking his name they conjured a will.i.am innovation

Justice League turned Derrick into the Joker.
Derrick fuckin HATES Batman.
Shawn had to take a sabbatical after going Zack Snyder on that Rat last week
I can't believe Shawn murderized that rat in slow-mo.
Synder cut was so good that Shawn had to stay home and watch it again
Eating my last slice of Pretzel Crust to this, RIP to a legend
Core difference is that Sasha's jokes often end up being at the expense of the people pranked, whereas Bad Trip didn't feel like it was punching down.
Siskel and Ebert both gave Babe: Pig in the City 4/4 stars
babe pig in the city is a masterpiece, directed and produced by the guy who made mad max, babe is literally jesus
I think we just witnessed the end of Movie Club
I think that the story of bad trip was supposed to be simple, but I liked that the movie didn’t need more to carry momentum of the pranks. It was at least an hour and a half of solid pranks and reactions and i enjoyed it for what it was.
If you look closely you can actually pinpoint the exact moment that Derrick gets Jokerfied. 37:39
Those boat jokes are the new standard for: so unfunny it becomes hilarious.

Why was Derrick so confident that they didnt mention Area51 when they did multiple times? I'm glad Johnny pointed that out.
Yeah wtf hahahaha and he was so sure too lmao
@@GeckGeckGeck It bothers me that it looked like he was getting agitated lol it's not like Johnny edits the videos...oh wait
I think this goes to show that the conspiratorial mindset can make you start to mentally degrade. Or it was a bit
Because he forgot
I thought it was pretty obvious that he was joking about it but okay there buddy
Derrick gonna hate the epilogue lol
I would understand if that 1 dislike was Shawn.
Haven't heard Derrick do an unhinged movie rant in a long time.
Highly enjoyable.

@@THEODSTKING117 It was after the 3ds came out. That’s all I know. Probably somewhere between episode 200 to 450. Good luck 👍
@@skoomawizard Way to narrow it down haha. Lay off the skooma!

Bad Trip was great, it wasnt meant to be about the plot at all. It was about the pranks and it delivered amazingly on that front.
May Bean vs. Benny never die
Derrick if you like R Patt check out Good Time, a film from the directors of Uncut Gems.
To be fair, Dale Earnhardt's problem was that he turned right ...
The Lighthouse made me a Robert Pattinson fan.
Same. Acting alongside a legendary actor like Dafoe seems daunting but Pattinson really held his own. I’m down for whatever he does next.
Yall seen Good Time? He is something else in that one
Good Time is one of the best movies of the last decade. he was great in it. better than uncut gems.
Didnt like Lighthouse, wonder if it would have been different if i went in without hearing hype.
No main guy? I'm out
after the 519 I took a break from the podcast. Bit burned out and thought the calls were being handled poorly which ended up being a hurdle for callers not being weird. It's actually great seeing how the podcast is going now. I hope other people like myself give it another chance
I would love to see a Paranormal podcast with Johnny and Derrick with aliens, ghosts. Stuff like that
Garret is right about algorithm enforced censorship
Good lord, Rocco actually made Derrick and Shawn watch the Snyder Cut for Movie Club?

The superhero movie formula is so tired now. Its like that time we moved on from zombie flicks
Maybe the DC superhero formula.
Nah make more
Benny: Hill in the city
Mr. Nobody is surprisingly good. Rocco will enjoy it. Derrick's gonna fuckin hate it lol

I'd love a series where Rocco just watches bad keynotes. There are a lot of bad E3 ones especially.
Snyder Cut sucked so hard and I love comic books. I collected comics my whole life. It sucked.
52 Min in, Derrick, I think what you're trying to say is that we can exploit our own human behavior/conditioning by augmenting AI to guide us to a higher human experience than mere consumerism?
12:55 I thought the same thing. He just basically stole 100k from the tax payer
what's wrong with super hero movies?
Derrick should check out The Lighthouse if he likes Robert Pattinson.
No Shawn. Sad day.
Just happy the Snyder verse is dead. Good riddance.
Tenet also made me a Robert Pattinson fan
Is Derick a character? I've been listening to this for a loong time, but I disagree with almost everything he says, like everything he's ever said.

I don't know anything about Benny Hill other than that,
1. He gets in Mr.Bean-esque antics.
2. He fucks.
I can imagine youtube and other sites are extra stingy when it comes to Area 51 due to the whole raid meme. that could've gone really bad and luckily it didn't

Derrick with the very Shawn-esque ending.
Also the Tenga Egg demonstration should become a regular bit.
Rocco's point about Bad Trip is the same issue I had with John Wick 3: too much of one good thing loosely threaded together.
