The mad god is about the 6th hardest enemy in the game, and he's actually very easy when you know his patterns. There are 3 dungeon bosses, Oryx the Mad God 2(hardest 1 enemy in the game, dungeon he is in dropped when Oryx 1 defeated and opened with a rare dungeon drop), and maybe even some event bosses that you beat to get to Oryx that are sometimes slightly harder to beat because of the sheer spamminess of the mobs they spawn, and their location, which can be in the Godlands.

That is what they intended. The mad god is the hardest enemy in the game. You have pretty much done everything to be ready for the mad god. By the way you are killing him. It is a reincarnation that comes back. Realm of the mad god loremaster.
That's not really the end, killing the mad god only gives you some equipment if you get lucky. There are many dungeons to complete, items to get, and you can eventually max your stats with potions. You don't really kill the mad god, as he just comes back.
Now...there is a trick in the PC version involving the Mattock that allows you to get the idol in the mines without triggering the boulder. All you need to do is destroy both the "altar" blocks beneath the idol, and then just take it. If this doesn't work if you do try it, don't shoot the messenger.
For the most part it is, but I did manage to break it one time after going extra crazy with it. For the most part, I wouldn't even be concerned about it.

Northernlion, don't be so hard on yourself. Sometimes it's not even you rushing. It's so hard to keep your eyes on every little thing. At the end there when you got smacked by the block it even scared the crap out of me, so I'm fairly sure I would have done the same thing.
NL its ok if you mess up but when you get the book it starts chewing when your above hell also calm down when you dont find the black market on 2-1 or 2-2 just keep cool and youll be fine

6:14 to 7:34 face facepalm FACEPALM FACEPALM!! that entire time,could have busted the whole way open with the pickaxe, drop the dog to the exit, get the udjat eye, and go down the next floor in one go, instead you bust half of it open, drop pick go down, rope to go up get the pick, bust other half open, get udjat eye, go all the way back to the dog holding the pick, drop the pick back there, carry the dog to the exit so have to rope up again, and go all the way back to the pick once more.

If you start using the pickaxe during when the ghost comes out, there is a chance in which the pickaxe will break with constant use. Proven by Foxman~

On the level with the Ozymandias head, you don't have to die directly next to it. You can die anywhere on that level.
