Hudsonsoul I think many are interested to see the progress over time and get inspired. I believe the key is authenticity because - like anything worth learning - playing piano is not easy.

Would be great! Especially as on TH-cam you find videos titled "Piano progress of 6 months" or similiar and then the player already had an extensive background in music in other instrument so all the theory on chords etc is already there.

It's really cool to see a beginner, it reminds me of me when I first started. I'm learning online, and thanks to you. I know it's not ideal, but I'm 40+, I just want to be able to understand the concept and also to play a few songs there and there. 4 Months later, I can pull things I never imagined. I'll be watching these as I'm still a beginner, and will never be Mozart, but heh, I'm having fun. I like how when you play piano you can't think of any problems in your life or anything else while playing.

I know me too. I started playing piano this year on a cheap 54 key keyboard and I learn tidbits online and just watch synthesia vids and rarely do I use sheet music since I can only read sinmple sheet music. Im currently a 2nd year medtech student in college and even if it is, i can always fall back on a beautiful hobby of mine which is playing the piano and forgetting all my worries while playing them because it's realky a fun and amazing talent to have. Im saving for an 88 key keyboard but it's a long way to go since i only have 40 dollars and i need to get to 200 hahaha

I'm 54 and have been playing the piano for around 8 months and am not a beginner any more. The piano is second hand, and practically fit for the bin but works. I figured if Ray Charles learnt on a broken piano then I'm not going to complain. I taught myself to help my son who is a natural and plays by ear and has created his own music but needs the technical side. Love it as you are never to old. I fancy myself as a wannabe Hazel Scott if you don't know her she will blow your mind. No pianist can touch her - plays two pianos simultaneously at lightening speed.

    • @ilikespoonsandsuch2421
      @ilikespoonsandsuch2421 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@Alex 10 Years eh? If you don't mind bragging (lol), how far have your skills come since starting? Did you just learn to play certain songs and adapt your playing around that? Or did you start with Music Theory and learning tones/keys/triads/etc? I'm asking as someone who's just gotten into playing piano again for the millionth time. It's a lot to ask obviously but how far into before you were satisfied with the progress you've made? I'm sort of all over the place on what I'm trying to learn. Studying different genres, different riffs, different licks, sort of everything piano I'm trying to consume. Just curious if I may be hurting myself trying to learn too much at once. As opposed to learning 1 thing at a time until I'm proficient in said thing. Like learning all the different Major scales then moving onto the Minors, etc. Instead of learning 2 scales here 1 scale there. I'm asking a lot and I do apologize, just looking for a bit of clarity with the whole learning process. Any advice/tips or just plain old words are always appreciated, thanks in advanced

I'm 53 trying to learn piano and it's very difficult...Today my piano teacher said I did excellent and it's the first time I felt like I did really well.. learning where the keys are on the keyboard and learning them on the staffs has made a big improvement for me..I have used an app to help me learn them and that has helped immensely...I actually stopped playing songs and just learned the staff notes to help me so I could read the music instead of being frustrated at every class...

"My fingers don't want to cooperate with my brain"...
    Awww, so cute Kaitlyn 😄
I can relate though. I used to play a little but it was years ago. I stopped as life just got in the way.
I've recently started practicing again. I'm currently familiarising myself with the scales. It's been three weeks with just 30 to 40 mins most evenings and I'm now comfortable with C, Cmin, D and Dmin scales.
I think it's going to take a while to learn the rest 🤣
I'm trying to learn to sight read too but it's just not sticking.
My eyes don't want to cooperate with my brain! 🤣
I love this channel btw. You're so relaxed and make learning relaxing and fun 🎹👍😀
    Update 3 June 2020:
Have been reasonably comfortable with all the natural Major Scales for a while now. Just need to work on the Sharps/Flats before continuing working on the Minor Scales.
And just for fun... I've been learning the opening few bars of Gymnopédie No.1 (Erik Satie), Children (Robert Miles), Stairway to Heaven (Led Zeppelin) and the 'Happy Birthday' song.
Just alternating between the first few bars of each song is starting to improve my left hand independence, timing and chord positioning.

I remember being so frustrated a few months ago but with practice i feel confident and am moving forward consistently. Learnnig a musical instrument is daunting but highly rewarding.

If only my piano teacher made music sound so fun when I started at 6 years old... She used to hold a pencil ready to hit your finger whenever you get a key wrong. Persisted for 10 years but stopped in the end. 25 years later I'm starting to pick it up again. Blindly memorised scales for exams. After watching the various videos from pianote, I'm seeing piano very differently now. Very very important to get a good teacher for my kids too so they don't end up like me.

Although it has helped me play my two hands in sync, I do struggle sometimes to play right note voluntarily (I am able to play next note via muscle memory but not fully knowing that I am playing G after A for e.g.). I'll give these exercises a try!

Thank You so much for this wonderful video. I just started 4 weeks ago on piano and I am noting all of these fabulous exercises as I do a few of them.
By far, the most difficult thing for me is lack of keyboard familiarity. Also, any chords involving black keys is an absolute nightmare as I cannot switch chord to chord without stopping and figuring out where fingers go. It’s just awful.
Thank You again for this fabulous video, I’m so happy I’m not the only one struggling with this thing. Good luck to the young lady, I hope she stays w it!

I will try to teach my kid using your videos. I am from India, not sure where are you located but would love to meet you some day.Hope you and your family are safe during this pandemic

it is so great when she makes a mistake! Thank you for that! I am literally all thumbs and this vid gives me confidence as I am not the only one. I was thinking that I could never play the piano but then realized that, as now, I am typing super fast and not even thinking (or looking) where my fingers are typing so I thought, well, , maybe I could also learn to do that on the keyboard and play music!

Very instructive. I'm 68 and just inherited a keyboard and have finally achieved a life long dream to learn to play. I wish one of the many videos i have watched would show someone with rather short stubby fingers, seems all have longer fingers which naturally seem to have a wider spacing at the tips. any suggestions for us with shorter fatter fingers?

I love this channel, I just bought my first keyboard today to start learning after watching a few Pianote videos the other night. I've always wanted to learn.
Nice to see a beginner in the videos, funny how I'm right handed and I was struggling with my right hand. Left is much more comfortable for me.
Anyway, thanks for the videos. You have inspired me and gained a new subscriber!

I have just found your videos and I never thought that I’d understand the basics quite fast. I normally play guitars and I’ve been trying to understand how to play the piano for years now, I can only play the music I’ve watched by copying the keys but I do not quite know what I’m doing before. But since I’ve found your video about how to read notes, it’s easier for me to understand the basics of playing the piano! Thanks a lot! You’ve re-kindled my desire to play the piano ❤️

This is perfect. It's so confusing not knowing what I should be practicing and this will get me on the right path. I feel like I've been all over the place trying to get a good foundation. I will try these exercises. How long/often do you recommend practicing these exercises?

    • @PianoteOfficial
      @PianoteOfficial  4 ปีที่แล้ว

I would try to practice these exercises at least once a day, but I get that sometimes it can be boring to practice the same thing every day, so use it at your own discretion and if you get bored with it, try practicing something else. :)

I loved this idea presented in a video. I’ve been trying to teach myself piano for awhile now, but not knowing what or how to practice, is a big problem for me. I hope you continue to show us Kaitlyn’s progress. Watching a beginner learn, along with your comments and corrections along the way, is invaluable. I love it! I will be practicing the same things you have Kaitlyn practice.

Just subscribed to your videos. I really love them. I play piano but was self taught. I started when i was 10 and I'm telling you it is one of the best moment of my life. Now it's been more than 20 years and i barely play nowadays coz of work. But still dreaming of playing notes. I would love to do both. Thanks for the videos and sharing. A beginner in your video makes it more interesting. Yes it's true. Most things in this world needs more practice. So do the piano. God bless

    0) Arched fingers (press down on fingertips, NOT finger "front") - she mentioned cutting fingernails, but not why... Another CORE technique you need to learn at the very beginning is to keep your fingers curved (not flat) also similar to a "claw" ((like an eagle talon) but a gentle one without "too much tension"). This curved shape is what you should be "pushing" into the keys (from the wrist joint, not your finger muscles generally)
Long fingernails, will make it difficult (or prevent) to come down on your finger TIPS because your hand will have to flatten (lose it's curved, claw shape) to get to the fingertip's pad (fleshy surface) - this will make your finger come in at an angle when it should be coming down PERPENDICULAR to the key surface. BUT just because your nails AREN'T in the way doesn't guarantee you will approach the key with your finger perpendicular, you must intentionally shape your hand that way and make it your default/habit.
She's an EXCEPTIONAL teacher, but I wish this would have been mentioned. It's CRITICAL to understand and ingrain early on in your journey. :) Best Wishes!
