    It’s funny you mention her collaborations with other female singers - oftentimes they don’t have actual verses, they’re just in the background vocals. The song she did with Lana Del Rey was like that - so disappointing to the point where Lana’s fans (who are crazy in their own way - I’m one) complained enough that Taylor of course released a version called “with more Lana Del Rey.” Her song with Colbie Caillat way back when also just barely has her voice in the background. The song with Haim was also the same. I was so surprised that her new song with Florence + the Machine (infinitely more talented than anything Taylor will do) actually gave Florence a real singing part.

    In all fairness to Billie, she at least released the full album with each of her variants. The fans could just choose the color they wanted, but each version had the full album. Taylor released variants but each variant had a different bonus track, so to get the full album, you have to buy all the variants.
    Billie also at least admitted she was guilty in the past and said she was going to do better and has taken steps to lessen her impact with her tour.

    • @ohhiyouitsme4423
      @ohhiyouitsme4423 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      Yeah, several artists do the different variants game, but often that just means the record is a different color. No new tracks, no new pics. While unnecessary and it may lead to some fans play the collect every color game, I definitely don't think there's the same interest in that.
      Swift plays the game way more: there's 4 versions of midnight that are the same, but you get different pictures and if you buys them all, they form a clock; now there's versions of midnights with bonus tracks, and none of them have all tracks, they're all incomplete, so if you want them all, you have to buy at least a couple of them.
      At least, that's been my experience from when I accidentally stumble onto stan culture. I've never seen anyone saying "I got all the colors of Happier than Ever/GUTS/30", but I've definitely seen the "I've got all midnights/1989/TTPD variants" more than a couple of times

    The part that you said that all her opening acts don't chart on the hot 100 because her fans don't want to support other women is so true!! Also so many of them hate Olivia Rodrigo for being remotely similar to Taylor Swift's style, they don't want her to steal her spotlight! Not just that, technically Taylor Swift shouldn't have been able to copyright Olivia for her stylized shouting singing part on Deja Vu (because it was just a form of stylized singing), but still managed to get 50% credits of that song( which is a huge portion for such a small part of the song, let's be honest), while Hayley from Paramore didn't really want the credits because she thinks Olivia just did a rookie mistake. Also Elvis Costello, who she also plagiarized from, said this is how rock and roll works. Both chill & down to earth people with less money than Taylor Swift and not behaving like her!!

    Taylor Swift only cares about herself. That should surprise no one at all, in the history of ever. It's how she got famous, after all... writing tons of sad songs about relationships that went awry. No doubt, in the half of her life where she and fame have been best buddies, that she's found ways to leech money from her fans.
    In the same vein, it's not surprising that she would do petty stuff. In a way, it would be mirroring her past romantic relationships, only that she's the one doing the screwing over in these cases. And she also gets tons of fame for her relationship with Travis Kelce.
    And Taylor knows she can get away with it because, well, all that money...

    I hadn't seen the Billie Eilish interview before today, and as a certified Swiftie since middle school, man am I glad someone with a platform called that shit out (even if Billie's done it too). It's incredibly frustrating watching other fans fall for this, essentially, scam. I've seen a few fans call it out but it seems like the majority either don't care or eat it up.
    Like, with TTPD, she had announced several different editions if the album BEFORE it even released. And then it turned out to be a surprise double album, so if you bought a special edition of TTPD, tough luck, your bonus song was on the Anthology version anyway, open to everyone on Spotify. TBF the previous Eilish album was on recycled vinyl as well. (which isn't always the best option if you care about audio quality. My black copy plays fine) Most artists release different pressings of albums on coloured vinyl, but Taylor goes a bit overboard with the releases. (by releasing a million different colours at once, and then selling empty collector's boxes for them. (Did I mention you need multiple of them for a full set...) Sure thing it's fun to buy an album in a cool colour, but Taylor is literally encouraging people to buy a dozen copies of the SAME album.

    Tbh record sales aren't even comparible to those classic era of modern music (early 60s to early 80s) When the Beatles were around the worlds population was 2.5 billion people with most of the world outside the West still living in what was even deemed then destitution. Now music is a click away and vinyls, whilst an actual decent sized investment are being purchased by an demographic in population alone over triple the size of the one during the (golden oldies) time. Let alone other factors at play like better and more liberal measurement of units sold.
    So no, it doesn't surprise me that people like Rhianna and Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran are slowly but surely beating the records of The Beatles and Pink Floyd etc. What is surprising is with all these modern benefits at play its taking them so long to do it.

Endless River and AM broke records and the news for selling records in the tens of thousands in 2014 because no one had bought records in that number in years. Not the moderates, not the MAGA Trump supporters, not the traditionalists, no the libertarian right wingers, and not the heavily religious folks either. She is a clown and a half and sadly makes some of the left's criticisms of us valid.

    Taylor's fandom scares me. Some people I know jumped on that bandwagon, and they can't shut up about how awesome she is.
    It's just like with Beyonce's fanbase back in the day. But scarier, somehow.
    By the way, these "timed digital exclusives" feel like a horrible practice. One of my favourite bands did that recently, and I thought it was kind of disrespectful to the fanbase. People leaked it after the time have passed, and I don't even blame them. Taylor is rich and popular as hell, she doesn't even need these tactics to keep her position in charts.

    Great video. In my opinion, there is very little overlap of Billie Eilish fans and Taylor Swift fans. One group is looking for a completely different message and style of music than the other. I wouldn’t discount either of them in their lane, but there isn’t much when it comes to listening to both. It’s unfortunate that such feuds are huge “news“. In our world of social media, this is another example of it being unsocial.

    • @ADoseofBuckley
      @ADoseofBuckley  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Sure, but the overlap isn't quite the concern here, simply that she's getting her audience to rebuy the same album they just bought in order to have it outsell someone else's album. It's not that she's making them spend on either HER or Billie, and they're choosing Taylor... it's that Taylor's basically saying to the 2 million people who just bought her album "buy it again for one extra track! Or buy it three more times for three tracks!"

    About the 'streaming isn't wasteful' statement: Have you ever considered how much energy is needed for all the cloud servers and online libraries? It's definitely way more than making physical albums people can play over and over again for years.
    So, buying physical records is way more eco friendly than streaming it over and over again.

    You're also seeing this in the WNBA vis-a-vis Caitlin Clark but with that case as well you can make the argument that in a patriarchal system, there's a "scarcity" dynamic at play where women feel a woman having success/being at the top is a zero sum game where if that woman wins, you lose. This is particularly true for someone like Taylor who, in her mid-30s, knows that that she past the age where her replacement should be taking over (indeed, arguably, if it wasn't for the pandemic and the "folkmore" records, she was already on a kind of natural decline. Someone in their documentary (Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, or Billie Eilish) said that unlike for the men, the top women in the music industry aren't really close friends with each other despite literally being the only people on the planet that can relate to what they're going through.

    • @ADoseofBuckley
      @ADoseofBuckley  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      I wish I'd seen that WNBA thing from The View a few days before this. I could have used that as an example. But yeah, the woman from the view calling out Caitlyn Clark (I may have spelled both those names wrong) for "Pretty privilege" and "White privilege", no one can just be happy that the WNBA is actually getting some press and some viewers? Absolutely a "woman hating women for doing it wrong" moment.

    I think it’s weird to blame Taylor swift for all of Billie’s poor album performance, because her promotion was weird. I guarantee none of her fans play fortnite. She didn’t bother releasing any singles for the album. I still haven’t heard a song from it. I keep seeing Twitter ads for it, and that’s it. If all Taylor swift had to do was release 3 voice memos for 6 hours to ruin her album rollout, then I think Billie’s team failed her.

    I believe the rumor she was intimidated a bit by Olivia's success then apparently released a new "special" vinyl varient (probably more than that)of one of her albums that came out after the deja vu situation. It seems extremely weird but i also agree thats why she "got" the good 4 u royalties for haylee Williams and probably a factor why she chose Sabrina carpenter to open for her. Just when I thought it wasn't possible for me to roll my eyes even harder, that "tweet" praising Taylor Senpai proved me wrong.
    So Taylor Senpai's the "only ethical billionaire" because she doesn't have a makeup brand? Well, I seem to remember another singer with a MASSIVELY popular, cruelty-free, and inclusive makeup line...I think her last name rhymes with Slendy or Trendy or something like that...
    ...nah, nope. Taylor Senpai's The Only Ethical Rich Person because of her "talent" in re-branding her usual "woe is me, I'm not like other girls, no I'm totally not a teenager in a grown woman's body" to her little rabid fanbase who will never realize that their Senpai will never, ever notice them.
