Combo Dream Mat VS Flood Gold (First Impressions 2022)

  • Join me while I break out my brand new Combo Dream Mat. After installing the mat in my sluice box I run down to the river. Right back my trusty flood gold spot. This spot always produces color for me. After filling 3 buckets of classified gravel I move down stream to sluice those buckets. I was pleasantly surprised with the results!
    Video that I referenced about different layers in the gravel bar.

      Liked and already Subscribed! Happy Times Yo! Oh and when I get my combo mat in the water I get those bubbles in the micro Mat too. Usually I have a little brush on me to get them out, if not I just rough up the mat with my hands to force the bubbles out. Works a charm. Really good video man!

      Good to know! I run the gold cube and the "vortex" mat has the same problem. I wasn't expecting it so I already had material in the box. I'll catch it next time. Thanks for watching and the comment. I appreciate it!

    Your Dream Mat will run better after it's broken in. I no longer have to scrub air bubbles out of mine. And the surface has seasoned from all the material I put through it. Seems to catch even finer gold now and let's the cons flow on by.

      @@prospectingforadventure I've just noticed, you have a detachable top part to your sluice - I was wondering, is that your own adaptation, or is your sluice a different brand to the mat? (I ask, as I'm wondering - before i buy - about the age old problem of size verses portability🤔👍🏼)

    Since you had it dry to start you should get one of those spinning magnets.. run it on half a painful at a time..will remove most of the black sand and possibly wire. Transfer to bucket or pan to wet to run. Good luck! If that works let us know.TY

      @RemOutdoors ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@prospectingforadventure your correct about it being longer than it is because of the vortex cells. You won’t have migration. Dream mat is very forgiving too. The combo mat with the micro, Cape disappointment and Mini at the end is just very hard to beat. In a dredge or high banker with the same mat and adding a Jarvine riffle is a game changer. No gold loss 100% recovery even on the fine stuff you can’t see.

    Do you think a flair on your sluice is necessary?
    I have a straight sluice run, with no flair.
    Trying to decide if i need to hand fab a flair.
    My box is 10x48

    • @Shoop...
      @Shoop... 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So the flair adds a couple different features, the most important being that it helps funnel more water into the channel which increases the velocity and power of the flow when your in a spot where you are struggling to get enough flow out of. But really, you can set up a few well positioned rocks at the mouth of your sluice to create a rock flair. You see spots in shallow areas all the time where people have created a dam like structure on one side to create more flow on the other.
      Another feature the flair adds is a place to drop your pay without it directly landing and clogging up the first section of your mat with light debris that would normally rise off the flair after hitting and get swept over the first mat section and hopefully all the way off the sluice. You don't want the light debris gumming up your mat, which will then end up in your concentrate, creating more cleanup work for you later.
      You can also see in the video, he has a short section of indicator mat on the flair which gives him helpful information. So, say you do a test pan or two and start shoveling and eventually you spread your shoveling out to other areas that you didn't test. The indicator mat will grab on to some of the heavy bits long enough for you to catch a glimpse of some color. If you're not seeing any color for a while on the indicator it informs you that you might want to stop and run another test pan or two.
      If you're dumping more dirt on that doesn't have any color in it you're ultimately just adding more waste to your concentrate and more time to your cleanup.
      And its just fun to watch gold appear briefly on your indicator and helps motivate you to keep that shovel moving =D
      You likely know all of this, but in case you didn't...

    • @prospectingforadventure
      @prospectingforadventure  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, it helps in low flow situations.

    Something to do about those air bubble is use a vegetable scrub brush after you set up your sluice and scrub the cells to get rid of the bubbles before you start scooping material.... kinda like you have to do with a gold cube and the vortex mats

      I love gold hog as well. I have found it's limitations though. No mat is perfect, I don't care what the manufacturer says. Gold hog looses the super thin larger flat flakes. There's significant migration. I was trying Dream Mat to see how it handles different types of gold. Most important thing is knowing your Mat and adapt to each situation.

      It was a decision based on experience in that location. Dry classifying in that location has proven to get pretty much all the gold out of the gravel. If it was wet I would have classified wet. Sometimes a few more colors isn't worth the time or effort. With this method I moved a lot more gravel than if I took the time to classify wet. That gives me more gold in the end.

Ive collected electronic scrap the last 5 years or so and used chemicals to collect the gold and thats addictive even though you spend more money on the chemicals - Nitric Acid / HCL peroxide / sulfuric acid and its very hard to accomplish and what your left with is a brown mud that still needs to be heated in a crucible to bring back in the metal yellow form we all know gold to be.
