First recorded this off Tommy Vance's Friday Rock Show on Radio 1 onto cassette tape and became a member of the Whitesnake choir since that day! A band that has changed with the times with different line ups, but it'll always be the Moody, Marsden, Murray, Paice, Lord and of course Mr David Coverdale that'll do it for me!
Yeah me too, when I lost that tape I bought Live in the Heart of the City album as a replacement but it was missing some magic ingredient that I couldn't put my finger on.
Mistreated is played in a very different way than the DP's studio recording and live performances but I like it though. Besides David Coverdale is at his peak and Ian's drumming really gives the dramatic pace of the original.
Love this version. I remember hearing this played on the Friday Rock show here in the UK back in 1980. Still sends a shiver down the spine. What a band they were back then
Personally I think the reading session was the best live performance of this snake lineup. The live album they produced from this era was missing something by comparison. I may be biased because I was at Reading for 1980 though :-).
The best version? Definitely from the album Made in Europe. The secret of the beauty of a live song is in the simple playing. Ian Paice, Ritchie Blackmore and everyone else on this album performed this fantastic song remarkably

Much of the difference is that Mardsen uses a Gibson guitar with hunbuckers while Blackmore uses a Fender stratocaster with single coils.
It was a decent run while it lasted 74,75 Purple 75, 76, 77 ,78 Rainbow and 78, 79 , 80 WS ..... before the $$$ and MTV took over.
