What a GREAT song !! I had the pleasure of performing to this song at a show in New York City. Great Show, Great Crowd, Forever a CLASSIC.....Thanx Bonnie.....
I have always loved this song. All of The Pointer Sisters & their Mom were some of the best voices ever. Today Bonnie has gone with Mother & June to sing in Heaven. R.I.P. Love to you all 💕💖
Many years later we played it to death on the Venture Inn juke box,. Crazy, wild and fun times. Thank you for Posting. Sleep well in the arms of the Lord Miss Pointer😇!!!
Now she left us for ever, never we will hear here brilliant voice again, it ´s a shame, and I ´m soooooo 😔😞😢😭😭 I loved her also as the duet ´ The Pinter Sisters ´, With a bow, My deepest condolences to the family !
And Heaven Must Have Sent You, Bonnie. I've listened to you since I was a kid and now I'm "middle aged" and still listening. Always used my tunes to distract from the hard times, and there have been too many, and yours were always in there full blast. Your presence made a difference, watch over Anita now.
I remember this version being a hit on the pop charts, as well as of course the disco version being the classic smash on the dance charts that it was, in '79. Motown still was a "hot sound" even until the early '80s. ;)
For those wondering, the other musicians are guitarist Eddie Hazel, bassist James Jamerson, drummer Ollie Brown, percussionist Jack Ashford, and keyboardist Truman Thomas.
Mary Wilson shoulda tried to get Bonnie when Jean Terrell (Diana's replacement) left the Supremes'. But then, Bonnie probably preferred being solo or she would've stayed with her sisters. But listening to Bonnie sing !!!! Her voice would've been a perfect fit for the Supremes plus....she had great stage presence & showmanship. That scatting she does at the end LOL. She once said in an interview that she and her sisters as kids used to imitate other people singing just for fun... says she always won ....cracked everybody up with this Ella Fitzgerald / Louie Armstrong imitation. Rest in Heavenly Peace Bonnie and June.
I too have looked for this version everywhere, tonite is the first time I have heard this since around 1980, lol. You'd think it would be included by now on some CD collection. This was the flipside or Side B of the single of Heaven, the version that everyone knows now. Many thanks for posting.
beautiful and meaningful song! The words are universal and uplifting...so thank you for making them available to the world! lol Happy New Year especially to negative complaining people!!! LOL
first time I've heard this version. this version sounds like it came out in 1964-1965, like something the Supremes would do! LOL The version I have in my site was released in 1979, a DISCO version ;-)
Though I *REALLY* dig the 'disco version', this 'alternate take' is a good one, too.. Keeping in step with The Classic Detroit Sound, albeit it was made & released by the post-1973 L.A. operation. Thanx fer it, m8....
I grew UP on this song...THIS one, not the disco version. I'm so glad I found it!! Now I need to find a way to turn it into an mp3! Anyone know how? This brings back such great childhood memories (I was born in '77)....
This song reminds me so much of one of my x bf he passed away 21 yrs ago and still today I remember and wishing him a Happy Birthday in heaven♥ Forever in my heart Michael ♥
Hi ! I'm french and I love this music !!!!! Thks for this beat woooooooow !!!! In french : Merci pour cette sacrée chanson, j'adore ce style de musique woow elle est excellente MErciiiiiiiii !! (*!*)
A great version that you just have to smile as it gives you such a great fuzzy glow. I used to play this version as a DJ in the UK for so many years and it always filled the dancefloor with people asking who is this? It is fantastic! Thank you so much for sharing. :-)
the single 45rpm 7 inch had both ...my dad used to play the Disco side by mistake...and flip it back over to this side...then I'd jump up and down happy lol....
On this day in 1979 {July 27th} Bonnie Pointer performed "Heaven Must Have Sent You" on the NBC-TV network late night musical variety program 'The Midnight Special'... At the time the song was at #39 on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eleven weeks later it would peak at #11 {for 2 weeks} and it spent 23 weeks on the Top 100... It reached #52 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart... She had two other Top 100 records; "Free Me From My Freedom/Tie Me To A Tree" {#58 in 1979} and "I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch)" {#40 in 1980} Patricia Eva 'Bonnie' Pointer celebrated her 67th birthday earlier this month on July 11th, 2017...
This was the version on the album. The disco mix was edited down for the 7” single. I have the promo 7” single that has this LP version on one side and the disco version on the other.
Think this is a disco version, but not the one I danced to back in the day. But neither is it the version on the album I have ( British Motown ). But really good track, so thanks.
These ladies are definitely "unsung". Some of the best voices EVER!
Always loved this version. Hard to find. I like the disco one too.

I remember this being the B side of the other version. My dad rocked this on the record player so many times . Brings back so many memories.
What a lovely version of the song.

The surviving girls of the bankrupt Supremes would have been teriffic additions to the Bonnie Pointer Revue.

She is kinda singing slowly and kinda quiet. 🤦♂️🤦♂️
She's not singing that good at the end.I think she's singing weird.

This clasic takes me back too 79, Sailing into New York on Q.E.2. I was the d.j on board. Anyone remeber?
Rest peacefully pretty lady This song helped start the Motown revival of the 80s. And Bonnie "scats" here just like Ella Fitzgerald.
Excepcional versión! Me costó trabajo encontrarla!
Isn't this the original version?
Think this is a disco version, but not the one I danced to back in the day. But neither is it the version on the album I have ( British Motown ). But really good track, so thanks.
is the cover by Richard Bernstein? A true master of portraiture.
