    Nice :) My sister and I grew up with a 1984 Bayliner Ski boat on Lake Norman, NC at our Grandmothers lake house :) Many fun times and memories :)

    A thing of note, the sacrificial zincs have nothing to do with static electricity. 2 dissimilar metals in an electrolytic solution is the definition of a battery. That's what you have in every boat short of canoes or kayaks. Basically the goal is to put a sacrificial metal at points on your boat or in the sea chests that have a higher negative electrochemical capacity than the metals that are used to make up the boat and it's engine. Zinc blocks are generally used due to cost and availability even though other materials are superior in the role of cathodic protection. They essentially perform as the anode of the battery that your boat becomes when it is placed in water. Remember from basic chemistry that a battery is basically a controlled form of corrosion where the underlying reaction is oxidation.
    All your boat needs to do is be sitting in the wet and it is slowly being eaten away through oxidation, with the highest electrochemically reactive metals being reduced first.

    We actually have this very same boat!! Think we have the SI version.
    Think the difference is that the trimming is blue inside
    Sadly, the engine has been nothing but trouble... shame, its such a joy!

    Check for a PM. I've had over 20 boats of various sizes with my first when I was 16 and now I'm 61 and still have a boat. so I know what I'm talking about in my PM. Besides that, I worked at several marinas too.

      that was my surprise as well, basically the same as my 89 Starcraft offshore fishing cuddy

    • @jbncnow
      @jbncnow 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fuel injection doesnt do well sitting 85% of the time, Carbs are bad enough with this shitty ethonal gas they have these days , worst case scenerio you have to buy a 300 dollar carb if you hsave EFI? big bucks, one injector can cost 100 bucks and theres 8 of them the old Throttle Body injection would have been a good choice, im thinking the newer Mercruisers have the LS based engines but its been a few years since ive had a boat

    • @dethwishplays...8851
      @dethwishplays...8851 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      well, I don't do much with marine engines but I do a lot of automotive builds. your guesstimate for injectors really depends on flow rate but ultimately I would say injectors would result in a better experience because they'll run e85. not second guessing you, just discussing my thoughts because my boat has been a nightmare for me since the increase in ethanol in fuel ...and I hear it from friends all the time. I'll take tips and knowledge haha

    Really like your vid's. I just want to say, be careful. Owning a boat that big sucks in the northeast due to the so short season.
    You are in an awkward position, you don't own it, just did the $1800 dollar prep + pay the dock fees, this is not bad (boat wise) to captain a boat for 2 1/2 months. Tread cautiously in this relationship (you are WAY ahead in this at this time)!

    Do not attempt to start the engines without water to the out drive(s) you will burn up the water pump impeller inside the drive

      Lol duh.

    • @craignehring
      @craignehring 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, it's all good, I'd hate to tell you how many impellers and or pump housings I've replaced (I did attend Merc Cruiser school)
      Here on Lake Michigan you could be in a world of hurt when your limited function pump gives it up High Fives ^5's

  • @hene193

    That's a nice size boat! I just looked them up and they don't seem to be too expensive. Most likely because they like to use a lot of fuel... Fuel is really expensive where I live.
