Wildfire | PART 2 | 1965 Harley-Davidson Survivor Chopper First Start in 20 Years

- In the first episode of our attempt to get Wildfire running we got 'er to start, but there were a number of issues to address before calling it a running bike. The pushrods were extremely loose and the fuel tank still had rust, which was wreaking havoc on the petcock and carb.
This time around, we got the fuel tank sorted, but ran into more trouble with the carb and pushrods. Watch to see how we finally got it running and riding!

Thanks for the memories. I built that back in 1973. Did you find my "G" or my 3/4 socket? That bike has history, miles, stories only me and Wildfire know... there is a reason for the name..
Cool ride. My right knee went into convulsions when she kicked back Memories of my '65 XLCH with a Hunt mag.
No s**t I destroyed my right knee on a 73 XLCH when the rachet gear took a dump
I love this, the real true life of working on bikes. I was 18 in 09. Bought a xlch my dad got kickback, never ever kicked it again lmao.
With a magneto you need to spin the motor. Start your kick just past TDC. Works much better.
Nice motor on this sled.
Back in the day I had Sportster leg so bad that when I would walk into a tavern people would ask me what year XLCH I was riding. It made my leg hurt just watching your Shovel kick back on you. Nice looking bike you have there.
You sir, are a National Treasure. Thank you for your service.
After adjusting hydraulic pushrods on one cylinder, you must wait until the lifters bleed down before you turn engine for adjustment of other cylinder. The rods can bend if you don't.
Gotta clean the tank more. When you think it’s clean, do it again. Then 2 more times after that and coat the inside. Ultrasonic clean the carb too. Thorough work and patience is the only way. Sick bike. Ol gal needs to major lovin
Cool chop, love those molded flames.
I have several shovels and ironheads, usually buy them DOA, everything is suspect so I tear em down to the crankpin and build em back up. heard noises in your vid, either broken valve spring or grenaded rollers on lifter.
Well I've learned one thing after Owen and Pan heads and shovel heads that when you kick start them and you kick that pedal down hold it down do not let it come backup hold it down and it will be a whole lot easier on your knee
Music to my ears compadres!
Instead of using sandpaper to 'clean' sparkplugs use a blow torch and burrn away oil and carbon. This is a much better method..
I’m here for the slip ons! Cheers boys, always look forward to your videos and updates at the shop.
So funny old trouble head what great bike
I think you've got a lot more to do on that project.
BUT, it started.....and that's a win.
i love these rescues
keep up the amazing work
Great old chopper !
Nice work out of you fellers, getting ole Wild fire upnand running again! Looking forward to any updates on her. Ride on!
Should have watched a few shovelhead videos before trying to start it. Clean the plugs, and set the timing before you try to start it. If you straddle the bike. you'll be less likely to slip off the kick starter. The kick starter needs to be re clocked also.
I LIKE YOUR TIGHT PANTS, SHOES, AND OLD MOTORCYCLES. I ALSO LIKE THE NO FRONT FENDER IN THE RAIN, MAKES YOU WAY COOLER. DONT LET THE HATERS HATE. #RIDETUFF
They can hate all they want- it's their hell, not ours.
Just went through a similar issue with my 68 ironhead. Finally pull the cam gears and and retimed oil pump and and cams and bingo. After years of fighting this thing it was cam timing and oil pump breather all along. Cool bike and cool video.
Red touque looks like his boyfriends still on his top lip that’s literally a flavour savour hahaha🤘🏻💯🤘🏻
really need to get me a chopper build going. never know where the best place to start is
That bike is so cool just the way it is 🤘😎
Ayyeee Larry Bird helped with this build that’s awesome !
I really enjoyed the video.

Bike is killer. Glad it's running,.
Question: What fuel tap is that? did I see 4Q on it? looks slick.
I randomly came across your channel. Great stuff and it looks like yall are in Charlotte…
If so, id love to check out your shop sometime!
Come on by!
Sweet!
Gotta clean those babies now that NGK isn't making a lot of plugs anymore.
Very cool fellas, I enjoyed the video, don't worry about who likes your shoes or riding with no front fender, if people want to comment about shit like that they should go elsewhere.
Very Nice...
sounded like a single cylinder V twin
Hi guys. When you were kicking it over there it seems kinda sluggish. Is the clutch ok, not dragging? Love to see the old bikes though. Keep it up.
Good job fellas , it should get better the more you ride it ?
reminds me of kicking my pan with a mag, LOL
I use a map torch and a wire brush for my plugs. Get them bitches hot to burn off carbon and oil then brush them while they're cooling down🤙🏻
3:08 Your turn.... 😂
Tatro machine would know whats wrong with that pile....
Thought Jake was gunna need knee surgery chasing that start with bent push rods! More vids like this!
the cadmium coating on the plugs is one half a thousanth thick.....not like a airplane plug.....
Why us the front cylinder not hot ..bad plug,wire,points..??
Collab with Max Schaaf on that petcock? 👀
Not sure but don't Shovels have 3 different length push rods
I luv D-Wayne
D-Wayne luvs you!
Didn't the shovelhead start production in 1966?
Boot to the Kool...
Wiiiiild
people who poke fun either, think you guys are cool so they bust your balls , or they wish they had what you had. Either way you win. So don't even give it a thought. I think both btw
Get a used treadmill keep it in the shop tie the motorcycle down to it turn the treadmill on high dump the clutch 🔥 .
How much?
Im impressed, I always though he was just another sissy hipster but no... he is the real deal! wow
Let me know if you need help. In ten minutes I’ll get it started.
Timing!!!!!!!!!!!
Push rods bent because they were too tight!!!!!
Adjust the Fn Timing
Don't forget the seat it need fixed
This when Hipsters get to much. Front cylinder was never firing 1 you can hear it 2 watch the video no exhaust ever came out the front
i think they noticed the front cylinder with the meter they got their work cut out for them with that one forsure
You guys kick start like old women
👍👍👍🥔
That thing ran rough
Timing
Either would help
No Boots, No Comment :{)
Bent valve
run a compression test.....bent valve....
That's the wrong kicker arm on there change it
No comment
Old Harley is a real Harley, you can't call a Milwaukee 8 a real Harley, if it doesn't have a kick starter it's not a fucking Harley.
Put some fucking boots on.!!lol Your not starting a mini bike.
I wasn’t gonna comment but the. You told
Me not to. Don’t tell me how to live my life sir!! I’ll do what I want! 👍🏻
