BCpov let me tell you something my man you are older than me so you have ability to jump so when you want to do something crazy just dont think about falling and go ahead
Y'all are dope!! If y'all make it to California and head up to Lake Tahoe for some Down Hill at North Star at Tahoe IM "DOWN" to join!! lol KEEP SENDING IT!!!
That’s an intimidating one! I just kept thinking about how perfect all the other drops were built and trusted the builders on that one. It’s smooth! Feels like never ending hang-time. Nice work man. 🎉
This was my thinking as well. Everything in Bentonville is built so well. I have a 134/140 bike and never bottomed out anywhere in Bentonville. Drop the Hammer, as well as everything else, was made perfectly to meet your bike so smoothly. Love your vids, btw.
@@benwigginsbikes ...It's about 12 where your rear wheel touches down, but the thing that gets everyone is the mind trip with how far down the bottom of the transition is. What you see leading up to the end of the drop, is a good 30 feet below you.
@@willbros1499 so true! It is a serious sightline mind game. I was out there on a Tuesday and was dying to follow someone into the wooden "warm-up drop" to the right of Hammer (if you are standing on the drop). I spent 6 days around Bentonville last October and loved everything about it.
I love how wholesome this was. Going to ride a new area and meeting a young lad who doesn't care y'all are a bit older cuz you're all riding. Bikes breaking down barriers once again 🤘
I'm hoping your next video is of you guys riding in Eureka Springs! I think those downhill runs will be more to your liking. Also, they have shuttles!! Just 30-45 minutes east of Bentonville.
NICE! I love the honesty about the trails. I always felt the same about having to pedal my ass off to not case some of the jumps there. A lot of fun and a great place to progress.
Just watched Yuka's video on this. Good job, both of you! Cool to see people overcoming their fears and adding to their skills. Well done! Stay upright and keep the rubber side down! -Brian
Well done mate. No better feeling than conquering an obstacle that has you nervous. Only today I hit 2 big jumps that I have been avoiding for weeks. Kudos for not being worried to admit your nerves. Anyone who says they don't get nervous before trying something outside their comfort zone is a liar.
Thanks for coming to northwest Arkansas. I've lived here my whole life and watched all these trails get built and I'm so glad you got to come here and ride these.
So awesome man hitting that feature! My wife and I were there in January for the first time and Cooper happened to be there and offered to lead me and another friend in for our first time doing drop the hammer. Was so intense. We met so many amazing people on our trip out there. Can't wait to go back there.
That drop is super intimidating (I still haven't hit it). And there are a couple sections on Cease & Desist that definitely wipe your legs out quickly for a jump line. Coler is such a fun area but C&D is probably the line I run the least. Glad you got to come through Bentonville and get a taste of the amazing trails we have here.
Your videos are great! Really appreciate the internal talk (bc/ that's def. what happens in my head) and seeing those times you go for it, but then find yourself braking just at the end! My head is far and away the weakest part of my mtb game!
I like the progression you and Yuka go through to gain confidence to conquer a big feature. I need to adapt that strategy. Good work sending it. Bob T.
That's awesome! Congrats! I'm needing to get over my anxiety of hitting big jumps and drops but your down to Earth videos are inspiring me. Thanks for sharing your adventures! Cheers!
Awesome video! I took a look at this drop in-person yesterday for the first time and thought no chance…but after watching your video last night i went back today and worked my way up from the 2nd one up to the big one. Two other riders saw me eyeing the second one up and offered to tow me in on all three. Couldn’t have done it without their help and your video. The steps in your video were extremely helpful and i’m so excited that i was able to drop the hammer today! A lot of the same “what if” scenarios play out in my head as well.
Awsome video! I was so nervous for you because I have felt the same way at the top of that drop! I've been down there several times and looked at that thing at least five different occasions. I've never had the confidence, proper equipment or bike to hit it confidently but , now I do and I'm going to make it happen this spring
Great video showing progression. Building up to the bigger feature, how to fill yourself with confidence, how to work on your skills on smaller features. I like your vids! :)
You mentioned about needing to peddle in this video which is something I've been curious about. I've enjoyed watching your videos. The one thing I have always wondered is when you are peddling and when you are just using gravity. It would be cool to have an inset or something that shows your foot work (gear changes too).
Can you come visit North Carolina, Raleigh and Durham have some great bike trails! I love to just take a day off and ride, can you come check them out pls? I would love to see that!
The same builders did some stuff in Colorado and it's also quite flat and you have to pedal alot to clear everything, even with the big mountains we have here
Aw, man...that place looks pretty sweet. I'm heading down to Louisiana in May to visit my wife's family (she's from New Orleans, originally). Hoping we can make a side trip along the way to visit some of the trails in Arkansas.
When the trails are completely dry you are able to maintain all of your speed on cease and desist. All that peanut butter really slows you down. Check out leatherwood while you’re in town 🍻
The 3rd person view Yuka filmed makes this video, 1st person is great but as someone who knows all too well how the nerves ties your gut up right before a big drop I appreciate the side view of the riders form.
Nice! I couldn't quite get myself to do it last time, we watched a dude take a really bad fall on the drop in the bone yard earlier in the day so I was just really uneasy. Planning to get it this year.
Glad you enjoyed the trails!!! I'm lucky to have grown up here with some amazing trails. Next time you should hit the back 40, its a long loop connected to some black diamond and blue. We also have a great mtb community with local bike shops and bike friendly restaurants. Bentonville is also a great place for beginners and teens with several NICA leagues from Jr high to high school. Hope to see you again!!!
Nice. Thanks for recapping your demons on camera. There have been FAR MORE CRASHES on the drop just BEFORE Drop the Hammer, believe it or not. FAR more. People come into that and think they can coast it, but it's slightly uphill and you have to pedal on the wood unless you're really going to hop off the end. One of the last clips from the side showed you both on it, pedaling to the end. Riders don't keep enough speed, and eat crap. They softened up the transition and built a little case pad there, but it didn't used to have that...crash city. I can't tell you how many people come to Bentonville after watching the videos online, and they can't wait to go hit Drop the Hammer. I help them with directions, and then they write me back later. "Whoa....that was WAY bigger that I thought it was going to be! I rode up to that and said...Heck no!" It's the mind trip that gets them. That is a pretty deep ravine, so it looks like you're dropping off the end of the world.
I just started mountain biking again after about a 6-7 month hiatus. I’m even scared to corner right now!! Ah! it’s going to take a while to start doing jumps and drops again.
I have never seen anyone take that approach to hitting DTH for the first time. Most people find it easier to be at a low heart rate, composed, and run it from the top just above it. All it takes is about two pedal strokes and a slow coast off the end. It's surprising how slow you actually go off of it. Being out of breath from the trail to that point always seemed harder to me with a little lactic acid in the legs, and a racing heartbeat, and especially at Enduro race speed. I was surprised you hit it like that, but you explained why, and sent it. Whatever works!
Now that you've seen my video... did Yuka send it as well? She's just posted her's here!

Any advice for someone who knows they can do drops but gets freaked out by anything beyond half a foot?

It's freaking great! And still so many I haven't explored in all of northwest Arkansas because they're everywhere!
