Ryan, this little vlog was awesome 😃 I never thought about it until you explained it the way you did. And your so cute talking about....I want the horse to know to STOP not go faster holding both reins 🤣 (no worries sweetie I'm old enough to be your grandma 😉) I never used two hands to ride anyway, but I just had to tell you how awesome and cute your explanation was. Blessings to you and yours always 🙌 Jennifer

I ride an OTTB mare, she was taught at the track "reins mean go". She's always been light in the bridle, but that didn't stop her from leaning on the reins in the beginning. Had to teach her to stop leaning via letting her lose just enough balance to need correcting. Nowadays, she doesn't need a heavy contact to go fast: just add leg, shorten reins (but not putting any more pressure than a light, not really there contact) and adopt a forward seat. She can also balance herself.
We do hunter/jumper stuff and minor mountaineering trail in a bog-standard d-ring snaffle.

❤It funny one time long ago. Someone. Actually said to me there horse was trained to move faster when you pulled on the reins. Now I know the truth about that . I have always Ed never pulled but always Softly had a feel of the horses mouth and yes using the reins i laterally using bends and crossing laterally
    😅

I need to do this with one of the horses we’re working on. She was raised working cattle in some form, but now we want her to be a lesson horse or at least a good riding horse. When you ask her to trot or canter, she only does those gates at full speed and reins mean nothing to her

Reins mean a lot of things. And I've yet to meet a western horse that understands them properly the way I want them to work. which is fine but to say reins mean go is ignorant because outside rein has a use inside rein has a use and both can be used at near the same time for different things

Some people might disagree with me but I have always thought about the dog leach in the same way. Like horse reins.
I’m a dog walker. I’m not BS you. You can control and communicate through the leash just horse reins but it takes some practice though but after that it’s like second nature to you.

A good English rider knows the difference between contact and pulling. Reins do not mean go. This is beyond foolish and narrow minded.
