    I would rather listen to someone not sponsored then a salesperson or someone sponsored by something when it comes to camper

      @austinrust I completely agree with you!! We travel do to our jobs. My husband knows about living in camper & 5th wheels. I’m about 3 almost 4 years into living majority of my life in our 5th wheel. I have so much to learn and he is learning more and more too. I love to learn from people who actually live the same life. I need a lot of help with space, organizing and redecorating. If you live in a camper full time it’s hard for me with space. I want to buy stuff but don’t have the room. Plus with our job we have to move very often

      Or anything. I listened to all the sponsored glowing reviews of the Pixel 6 phone when it first came out and it was buggy garbage. The P7 came out & those same reviewers getting affiliate commissions pivoted to trashing the P6 and raving about the P7. 🤦

    Things I did to our trailer. Put a grab bar on the screen door. Couple of screws on the ends caps of my rear bumper so the caps dont come off.

    I am originally from northern MA. Been camping since our honeymoon in 1977. Settled in Upper Penninsula of MI. We have had many tents, campers and RV's. We have now a 1986 Toyota mini Cruiser for weekend jaunts and a 1977 Bendix Aristocrat that we leave at our Lake Superior shore camp property. We revamped both of them and now cant see having anything else. ❤

    Love to hear about long term campers!! As a child my camping experience began with a trip from Johnstown PA to Ridgecrest CA!! We had a 15' Hi-Lo, slept 6!!! Mom and Dad, dinette, 2 canvas cots, 3 girls (2 head to toe in 1, youngest in one above mom and dad), baby in a canvas crib, small canvas cot with 4 canvas sides attached to cot above mom and dad on 1 end and sitting on the pantry cupboard on the other! PortaPotty under the forward seat, below the other canvas cot! Pulled by a 1960 BelAire Chevrolet!! 1964!! I've been camping ever since!!

    • @Seabee_Camper
      @Seabee_Camper  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      WOW! Jan, you've got me beat. I started with my parents in 1972 or so in a 17' Monitor trailer. I remember it had a propane light on the wall (kinda like a Coleman lantern) that provided light and heat!

    • @janmoline
      @janmoline ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Jim Thomas the HiLo had a propane furnace. It'd cook you out of that little trailer! Dad would hang a Coleman lantern under the roof vent, on the handle used to crank it open, and light and heat the trailer! Great memories! The Gateway Arch in St. Lois wasn't finished. We waded in creeks, swam in lakes, and "rode" horses (my uncle rode the horse and hung on to us) in the south and Midwest, and used a flattened cardboard box to slide down sand dunes in the southwest.

    I'd recommend replacing any key locks with barrel locks. Keys bend or wear down and you spend time jiggling the keys to get them to work. Barrel locks are one way, the keys are sturdy and someone can't just force the lock with a screwdriver.

    We have those same motion lights on our stairs at our house. They're great! I put touch lights in our camper pantry cabinet, but maybe I'll switch to the motion activated ones... we'll see. The one tip that you gave that I will definitely do is the fire extinguishers... One in the bedroom and one outside is a great idea. thank you!

    Nicely explained and some very good ideas … you might want to look into 12v light that turns on and off by touching it. If you keep your finger on it , it dims or gets brighter … perfect as a night light or ambient / mood lighting.

    These are all great tips. I have a little bumper-mounted grille and I still could not get it to fire up very well off that connection. I also like the pantry lights - I will need to do some exploration to see what 12v sources we have near the pantry. One easy tip I'd add, especially for spacially-challenged campers, is get an over-the-door hook for the bathroom. It adds more space for towels and keeps the mess off the floor.

    • @Seabee_Camper
      @Seabee_Camper  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks! Great tip about the over the door hook. There's never enough space for hanging towels.

    Better than FIRE EXTINGUISHERS…(I recently learned first hand when our teenage son had a grease fire in the kitchen.)
    FIRE BLANKET(s) and a handy container of BAKING SODA like a jar with a lid Why???? You ask:
    1. Quicker and WAAY easier to use
    2. Less mess to clean up
    3. Blanket doesn’t expire
    4. Weigh less
    5. Blanket can be used to wrap a person who is on fire
    6. Both are much more environmentally friendly
    7. Baking soda is something I always have on hand. So adding the blanket for home and and when we travel was double insurance. Note: I keep 2 pairs of gloves ( hand protection from the fiberglass) with each blanket when and if they will be used.

      @Seabee_Camper  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a great suggestion, thanks for sharing it! I'm not sure I would give up my extinguishers, but this is another layer of protection.

    You are doing the propane correctly. You’re never supposed to have the switch over thing in the middle. There was a TH-cam video on that from an RV tech up in WA.

    I am having spinal surgery in May. I have buying a camper on my bucket list but I will wait until I’m healed. It hurts to put up with sciatic pain. Once the pain is gone I will look forward to camping. Right now I’m thinking I will want a small camper. I look forward to enjoying sitting outside around a campfire. I appreciate your video showing important things to buy. I will be camping mostly small thereby why I want a small camper that I will be able to tow. I want a small (micro) camper, one that has storage underneath. A bathroom with shower inside or outside. I kind of like the model with the kitchen outside with a pass through. I will save your recommendations and hopefully find them when I am ready to camp again. Oh and this will be my first time camping in a trailer. Before it was always tent camping.

      We started in a pop up, then went to a tent for a number of years. We're getting to like our comfort more as we get older. :)
