Magnificent video as usual. On another note that I find in a bunch of videos and forums. It's kind of amazing how many people whine about 'fake engine sounds', yet want a car that's quiet to daily, yet want a car that's loud when they wanna have a go. I person think that the amplified engine sound thing is a good thing, but I think it should have a dial/menu like the Lexus does here. That's a very nice touch. A very good compromise by the manufacturers.
Man, I'm so glad you mentioned the digital engine noise. In the first half of the video I thought the engine sounded terrible, super annoying! I've never heard digital sound that bad. There is no way I wound keep that on, in fact I would rip out or super glue the knob just in case I accidentally turned it on. Great view once again.
Another great review - i really enjoyed the dive into the suspension and dynamics. There are so many great "consumer vehicles" but its good to know what actually is behind good dynamics when you start to push a car.
Love the "Interio" impressions! Also, I like the cut of your jib. The profanity and anger is welcome, and you do good video stuff too. Very entertaining & informative.
i have one with ecu tune, full exhaust, cold air intake, etc. and it's sooooo much fun! The turbo really whines and the blow off valve sound never gets old!
Glad to have finally watched this video. I think with the turbocharged 4 this car is more of a very stylish and sporty commuter, while the V6 is more mainstream luxury and the V8 a luxury GT coupe. If it was my only "fun" car I would get at least the V6, but this turbo 4 makes my list of sporty dailies to consider.
We have the 300h in europa. To much to ask to do something with that car? You did tons with the rc... can I say that you are the best car reviewer in the net?!? Who else looks underneath😉
The amount of people who complain about a 1 or 2 second difference in 0-60 is astounding. Is it really that big of a deal? What is getting to the grocery store 2 seconds faster going to do for you? You dummies act like you race cars for a living. This car looks gorgeous. The best looking coupe out there. I'd take a gorgeous looking car over an ugly one that is 2 seconds faster any day.
lexus has one the best interiors lately but one thing that i think they should do is make their own door handle and lock buttons..among the bespoke trims which are excellent quality these items kinda stand out as bits from toyota.
.... without realising that some peoples will probably like the RC whatever tons he will weight... Let's be honest. The 200lbs more, are nothing if compared with the Bentley's, Porsches, Mercedes and other Range Rover. In short, all those sport SUV Panzers out there. And the air resistance is pretty low on this car. Probably nullifying the differences with the IS at high speed. Just my 2 cents.
The interior of the IS (even in 2019) has that silly “cup holder obstructing your infotainment centre”. Then, the RC is more updated with a 10inch screen and Apple CarPlay. I’ll take 200lbs of weight for those alone.
shit on the engine power all you want but you can't get this comfort and reliability with any other model. beside this car just looks sexy and it won't depreciate.
I've seen that chiptuning is now available for the 200t, raising the power to 300hp and more than 400 poundfeet of torque. This would be amazing on this car.
I love what Lexus is doing, but it would go a long way to developing a more "sporting" brand cache if they could find a way to make a Lexus style S2000, to slot underneath the LC500, and hot hatch version of the CT.
I had a Lexus IS which I loved but I couldn't get excited about this RC at all especially that engine sound. Your video however captured beautifully of this cars styling and I loved that sunset as background.
I love this car. Looks stunning "before u go off half cocked calling me a Lexus fanboy" You were complementing the car and had to say your no lexus fanboy? You have to be a fan boy to like Lexus? I dont get it when people praise Audi BMW and Benz no one has to say that they arent a fan boy.. but when someone like Lexus you have to state your not a fanboy ? Double standard. Lexus is just as good and better in some areas then the Germans. You shouldn't have to justify anything. I have seen this car in person and let me tell you its stunning. Stand out. I love the rear end and side profile. Its look better in person then pics and videos. The interior is gorgeous and that red paint is really nice. Lexus factory paints are one of the best factory paint jobs. They get the deep, gloss and shine just right, Its a new model and it already has a high performance F model, a turbo model and a V6 model. Lexus is on full steam with production of their cars model range things like this usually take years to happen. That delay in acceleration needs to get sorted out it can def be faster with more punch off the line.
Lol hilarious...Lexus past Mercedes-Benz on the sales list to become #2 behind BMW. Lexus for reliability is tops period. only Audi is near the top of the German brands. My only issue with Lexus is the infotainment systems. Love the GS .
Lol, I think I was the person (or one of the people) who suggested you brake torque the car on your previous video. Now obviously you're right that no one does that in real life. I simply suggested it since it would narrow down whether the torque converter or engine software was causing the sluggish off the line acceleration. Judging by the fact that brake torquing seems to work, it appears that the torque converter is the culprit.
Thanks and thats why I did it in video this time. Its mostly tq converter but there is software at play too. If you stab the throttle its like a bluetooth connection to throttle body always a half second delay.
I'm conflicted if I were to buy one of the Lexus lineup sporty cars. It seems like the RC is more fun to drive than the IS, but the IS looks better to me. But I'd rather have the coupe. But the IS looks smaller and tighter. The 200T models seem lighter and more tossable, but I'd rather have the NA motor with more power. And no manual to speak of :'( With a manual transmission these cars be so much more attractive
From an enthusiast perspective, the RCF is the car to get with Torsion LSD for street. If you don't need that power then 350 is good. Not having a manual option hurts here.
+Scott P Precisely! And there's only a difference of $2,800 in price, and 4 mpg combined, between the 200turd and the 6 cylinder version. At the $40,000 price range, who is motivated to buy a 4 cylinder version? Moreover, who would put a 4 cylinder engine in a car that looks like that? The Lexus product manager that green-lit this decision is going to get demoted, for sure.
+John sierra Dude, it's 4 mpg. I'm just quoting actual EPA information cited by Lexus in their own product guide, which you can find here: pressroom.lexus.com/releases/2016+lexus+rc+product+specs.htm Your own personal experience is meaningless - - you could have a downhill drive both to and from work, for all we know.
+John sierra Your immaturity is exceeded only by your ignorance. Rejoin us when you know the difference between anecdotal experience and objective information. So, 4 mpg difference it is; don't take it personally. My point stands: I wonder why a typical buyer at this price point would settle for the 4 cylinder? Someone of the environmentalist faith, is the best rationale I can come up with.
"I would love to see this engine in something that weighs 800lbs less." - Every Lexus review when comparing against the competition. I can't wait to see Turbowski's mid-engined RWD LS-swapped Spark.
I blame this video for me getting into RC200t... :D Obviously, it is not a fault of the video, but this one was last nudge for me to get it - sort of "it is not as bad" and perhaps it is going to be "ok" or "good enough". I watched it when it was first uploaded, then before buying the car and now few month after getting it. Just for some background - the problem is that in UK we do not get RC350 - it is not for sale and that makes no sense whatsoever. The choice on release in UK used to be RC200t/300h at the same price point or RC-F at double the price and nothing in between, since they have dropped 200t and now it is literally either RC300h or RC-F - this is stupid beyond imagination... RC300h is tragic car.. had test driven it several times and that hybrid powertrain just sucks and it is just so slow (9.2s to 60!) - complete incomprehensible compared to how the car looks. If we would have RC350, obviously I would have got it back in 2017 when I was looking to upgrade my IS250, but we don't and I don't exactly want to own RC-F, because it is too much for my daily commute and too expensive to own maintain and insure (no joke my insurance quote for it was £3500). So I really struggled with decision regarding upgrade... I had 2.0t cars in the past and I hated them, because they just rough and that is probably ok in tuner like golf GTI or Mitsubishi Evo... but in GT car like RC it just sucks. 300h - tried it and it sucked, RC-F was just out of question. Finally, my IS got written off due to minor scratch on the roundabout and I had to upgrade... RC200t in right colour and spec showed-up.. I watched this video and bought it next day.... and I fucking hate it! The car is lovely, but the engine is piece of trash - it lags, it hunts for gears constantly, the fuel efficiency is worse than RC-F! it is harsh above ~3500-4000RPM (maybe it is smoothest 4 cylinder, but it is still shit compared to literally anything else which is not 4 pot). Coming from 4GR-FSE in IS250 I just can't believe Lexus spent 10 years and made engine so bad in comparison to the old one. On paper it looks marginal improvement, but in reality is worse in any possible way. Now after owning the car and watching the video again I can say it touches all aspects of the car - sadly for me the day before the purchase I was looking for justification to own it and I missed the mild warnings. My conclusion - 200t is the worst engine in Lexus history only second to 220d, it has no place in RC or any Lexus car for that matter and whatever you do don't buy it... especially if you have option to get RC350.
Your review is really great!! Thank you very much for sharing this. Also, the drone shot showing the city is beautiful, which area of this city did you film it?
Hey Savage, I'm really torn between IS and RC 200t (both fsport). What's your opinion after reviewing both of these cars. IS seems more practical and is also slightly cheaper, while RC looks so much better. What about the driving experience ? I had short test drives, unfortunately that's not enough to tell the difference for me. Thanks for your input.
+tomekhome I vastly prefer the RC from styling and interior. Feels less crammed, better sorted storage inside and chassis feels more sports car to me. But you lose back seats which are definately small in RC.
Just need the aftermarket to get on board. There are some companies that have pushed out over 250rwhp and 290rwtq on this motor. Some are doing hybrid turbos and have hit 331rwhp. They have also tuned out the ridiculous throttle body lag.
looking forward to your review of the GSF come spring, will be interesting to see whether you prefer it to the RCF, considering your admiration for the RC platform
+Gregory G Haha, when ASC is turned all the way up makes it sound like there's a heavy wind blowing outside. Sounds awful. Maybe it sounds better when you're in the car.
From the very first hard launch I noticed how strangely artificial it sounded near the redline and was trying to sort out what was going on. I completely forgot about systems like ASC, so the moment you mentioned it my reaction was, "OHHH! Haha, duh...gross..." I'm sure it doesn't sound as annoying sitting in the car, but through the video the experience is very Gran Turismo 2-ish.
***** The worst ones are systems designed to alter the sound of the engine entirely. Biggest offender in the States is Ford with the EcoBoost Mustang. They play specific frequencies to mask the sound of the four cylinder, which is ridiculous. Granted, with the fuse removed for the system (can't disable it), it sounds like a Focus. But people are well aware of the power plant in the vehicle to begin with and shouldn't mind hearing the true sound. Not to mention that all of the audio-doctoring on the inside doesn't change what's under the hood, and it's just lying to the owner of the car while the rest of the world on the outside hears a four banger, haha. I love the idea of the EcoBoost Mustang, but the sound doctoring is crap.
***** I could be misremembering what I read as far as their specific technique used, I'll have to look it up. But that's precisely why Ford is masking the four cylinder: people think v8 when they think Mustang, so Ford was afraid some beef eating shit kicker would buy one and bitch about the sound. There are swaths of people that think the EcoBoost Mustang is sacrilege, but they're obviously ignorant on the vehicle's lineage because the Mustang was never made with v8 exclusivity; it was a car designed solely for the appeal of giving options. Not to mention the existence of one of the most coveted Mustang trims ever: the SVO.
I initially thought the asc would be permanently turned off but the car is so quiet that picking gear changes is not intuitive. There needs to be some aural feedback if you don't want to thrash it to the rev limiter
Depending on how you take care of it, could do more than 200k miles, but in addition to the regular Lexus components, you will have to replace the turbo as well. I personally prefer naturally aspirated engines.
I don't understand this aversion to rwd. Personally I can never take front drive cars seriously. Find a big dirt patch and spend some time booting the rear out and anyone scared of rwd will fall in love.
I want a new Celica with the 2.0t so bad! Make it basic, light, small and light for under 30k and it would be amazing! I want a new Toyota sports car with a Toyota built engine
Would like to see someone use the gear shifter in the manual mode I tried it from a dead stop to go and seems in my opinion much faster, but have not tried it with the different modes like sport and sport plus with manual shift. But would like to see videos with different speed times and performance, buy the way I have the Lexus 2016 Rc200t F it has only 22,163 miles
Weight, center of gravity, corporate policy that Toyota and Lexus are two different brands that don't mix components between each other, turbo lag... first points I see.
Let's the stereotype aside a moment. The setting of the chassis is much fluffier, the mass are not that eavenly disposed as on the GT86, and, on this car, the assists will take over when you go sideways. As said above, it's a GT in the old meaning of the term. A fast cruiser sportscar if you prefere.
And BAM, lost 2/3 of the worth of the car and the warranty in the process. Can you check the weight of the Lexus RCF and the weight of the 86/BRZ please ? When weight and weight distribution is a key factor for drifting.... are you always staying on your words ? P.S. but before we continue .... do you actually drove those cars ? No... because I have the impression that you didn't know what you are talking about.
A 4 cylinder luxury sporty car? Isn't that akin to something like a $60,000 Civic Si? I can see the point to buying it if you live in a city with a 20 mph speed limit, police with radar at every corner, and women who only want to know men who have luxury and status. Oh wait, that describes most of America these days. Yeah, that car's just right for the 'slow' lane, to avoid speeding traffic tickets.
i have this car and all i do is go the speed limit in the very right lane and every cop flys past me, its great, coming from a camaro that was a cop magnet.
too mad its got a slushbox, rip the man rwd dream, time for a swap and slushbox destruction party(this involves dynamite, fire, warpaint and dancing around the slushbox chanting one of us one of us before blowing it to smithereens)
+waderedsox its a damn shame too because lexus is really the only manufacturer that seems to be keeping with the original thread of the FANTASTIC utilitarian driver focused durable interiors of the early 2000s and 90s (ie honda(before the garbage that was the 8th gen accord) nissan toyota etc)
+waderedsox specifically HOW THEY HAVE THE COMMON SENSE NOT TO PUT FUCKING GLOSSY SHIT THAT GLARES IN YOUR EYES EVERYWHERE, WHAT FUCKING 1 YEAR OUT OF DESIGN SCHOOL MORON KEEPS PROMOTING THAT SHITTY CRAP IN EVERY GOD DAMN CAR
They should put the Engine in the Toyota 86
Toyota and Subaru are working on a new engine for the 86, it will be a 2.4 turbo flat four. It's great and will probably do the job.
Car will fly off the road with a 2.0 Turbo
Would be a good idea but it’ll mess up the balance that the flat 4 gives it
I wish they would put the rc 200t interior into the 86!the 86 interior is beyond tacky and screams racer boyz 😖
@@boboutelama5748 how does it feel to be wrong. The new motor isn’t turbo. Again. Unfortunately.
that fake engine noise sounds awful!! sounds like it was designed by the same audio engineer that did gran turismo 6 vacuum cleaner engine sounds.
Agreed! GT6 sounds were TERRIBLE!!!
It's cool that the engine sounds like a baby goat.
Randy Cockshipes had that on my checklist, glad I found another one.
It’s slow AF
The cinematography in this review is amazing...
Great view once again.
my mums IS hybrid does the same
That active sound control is really makes it sound as though the engine is being strangled.
Last November bought a 2019 RC300 and it's the best car ever.
very nice!! I have the 2019 RC 300h on my channel

The artificial engine noise is a joke.

Question is, how long will this car last in terms of reliability. I want to buy either a 2016/2017 Lexus RC or IS 350
Robert Espinoza just buy RC. Because i have one. It’s extremely good. Unless you want 4door
either one will be extremely reliable, the motor has been around since 06

Now after owning the car and watching the video again I can say it touches all aspects of the car - sadly for me the day before the purchase I was looking for justification to own it and I missed the mild warnings. My conclusion - 200t is the worst engine in Lexus history only second to 220d, it has no place in RC or any Lexus car for that matter and whatever you do don't buy it... especially if you have option to get RC350.
LP I live in the USA so thanks for the warning and advice!
id like to see a review of a Lexus SC300 or 400 to compare the old from the new
Love to getvan sc400
I love my sc
Oddly the GS200t is faster than the RC200t or the IS200t and doesnt seem to have as much throttle lag as the RC or IS.
Engineering explained said that this car is only 10 lbs lighter than the 350 at least in IS form.
Yesterday I bought 200t for my wife. Does the car have any faults, or what fault can I encounter? Thanks.
I would be tempted to go for a RC 200t as they are about £10k less than the hybrids...
Exists an Turbo upgrade for that car? Or other motor tuning?
This car have the start/stop function?
Very nice review!
where do I get the savage geese t-shirts?
Just need the aftermarket to get on board. There are some companies that have pushed out over 250rwhp and 290rwtq on this motor. Some are doing hybrid turbos and have hit 331rwhp. They have also tuned out the ridiculous throttle body lag.
or just buy the V6 dummy
Is RC as quiet as GS with tyre noise on the highway? Much noise come in through the frameless glass doors?
looking forward to your review of the GSF come spring, will be interesting to see whether you prefer it to the RCF, considering your admiration for the RC platform
+Brad_0 Its on the list, but wont get it until summer.
42:58 weight distribution and huge torsional rigidity. 5 layer paint too
"Would you buy one of these if money were no object? What would you buy?"
".....probably an Aveo or a Spark."
😂🔥
is it only on the F sport models that you can see that PSI display next to your RPMS
Electric motors for instant torque is what you need here (;
Honestly that would be so nice, especially since its already so heavy. A RC F e hybrid lol
Nice, a Saab 9-3 convertible in the background.
There needs to be some aural feedback if you don't want to thrash it to the rev limiter
do you think this car can go 200k miles?
Depending on how you take care of it, could do more than 200k miles, but in addition to the regular Lexus components, you will have to replace the turbo as well. I personally prefer naturally aspirated engines.
I don't understand this aversion to rwd. Personally I can never take front drive cars seriously. Find a big dirt patch and spend some time booting the rear out and anyone scared of rwd will fall in love.
Love your reviews!! Please do one one the new IS :)
LOL the fake engine sound - wowGreat review showing this
great reveiw !
Does is shift as fast as the is-F?
I want a new Celica with the 2.0t so bad! Make it basic, light, small and light for under 30k and it would be amazing! I want a new Toyota sports car with a Toyota built engine
GR86 m8
Would like to see someone use the gear shifter in the manual mode I tried it from a dead stop to go and seems in my opinion much faster, but have not tried it with the different modes like sport and sport plus with manual shift. But would like to see videos with different speed times and performance, buy the way I have the Lexus 2016 Rc200t F it has only 22,163 miles
Anyone put a tune on one of these? How is it?
anyway for u to do a review on the new wrx? really interested in that machine
Been asking Subaru for it for a year!
+savagegeese damn you Subaru!!!
Dang the mechanic would pick an Aveo or Spark over this if money wasn't an issue? I wonder why 🤔
What mic do you use?
All sennhesier ME2 with ew3 wireless.
Please review the 2016 Honda Civic Touring
Would buy that white WRX/STI that I spotted instead of this :)
irrelevant the 2 cars don't compete
pls make a review of GS-F.
+Nyi Myo Maung June/July
Dude, the RC350 is what, 75 lbs heavier? I doubt you can feel that, it's your imagination.
Bruno TaTa Some sieves state it is closer to 10lb difference.
i hate the digital sound noise on my Is,it's always off!!
Interesting....driving around through Woodstock...guess there are some god roads there to test these cars on....
Yeah shockingly.
+savagegeese Where do you get the cars from to do these reviews? was looking into getting Tacoma TRD Sport in blue like the one you drove
It sounds horrible with the ASC on
It sounds like the interceptor in The Wraith....
Now why don't they just fit that engine into the frs?
Weight, center of gravity, corporate policy that Toyota and Lexus are two different brands that don't mix components between each other, turbo lag... first points I see.
It's heavier than a GS, how?!
I want one.
Respect Japanese culture and language as well as their Technology. Don't say, Tokio, "whatever that means" NEVER.
All I need to know! Will it drift?!!?!?!?
No. Go for the GT86/BRZ for this. This car is a GT car in the old meaning of this term.
Bro, if it's RWD and has enough torque it will drift! Lets hope there's an available DCT with paddle shifters or a old school 6 speed.
Bro, if there is a will there is a way. We can disable the traction control/ABS throw some stiff suspension on there and Bam! Sexy drift car.
They should put this engine in ct200h *lexus hatchback
GSF please.
I want that t-shirt!! where can I get one??
Thats top secret!
+savagegeese :(
We are not doing any merch sales at this time. Down the line maybe.
maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me. does the body look like an FRS in shape.
+John sierra lol
+John sierra nope. closest thing I've seen is 2016 isf lol. not knocking this car or the 86. I think both are tits.
Frs is a piece of junk. How dare you lol
I hope Toyota will put that engine in the BZR with the six speed and non of that bull shit simulated noise
The Lexus FR-S
too mad its got a slushbox, rip the man rwd dream, time for a swap and slushbox destruction party(this involves dynamite, fire, warpaint and dancing around the slushbox chanting one of us one of us before blowing it to smithereens)
All of these cars new manual cogs.
all these cars [need?] manual cogs.? (not trying to be a smart-ass especially seeing as i cant type a single sentence properly)
+waderedsox All RCs need a manual transmission option, the autos are only so much fun.
