    Thanks man!
    Do you plan to make videos about other parameter types too? (project, shared, global)

    • @ArchitectureVanguard
      @ArchitectureVanguard  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do, I would likely have a separate video for each. That said, I hardly if ever use shared parameters and global parameters in my projects. Definitely will make one on project parameters soon!

    Hey, great video. I am trying to schedule a family type parameter which is nested in a parent family to control the colour of the air terminal (I have already used the types to control the air terminal size). I need to be able to schedule this "colour" parameter but as it is a family type parameter it cannot be scheduled. Can you think of a workaround? Thank you

    • @ArchitectureVanguard
      @ArchitectureVanguard  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The best work around I can think of would be conditional formatting for your schedule. This can highlight cells with specific colors without having to use specific parameters. But you could use those specific parameters to drive the conditional formatting. That might be the route I take.

    I am wondering about 2 things: 1. How to constrain a circle extrusion using the align tool. Circles are finicky. 2. How to use the TIME parameter. I am creating an analog clock as a class assignment and wonder if the TIME parameter is useful for this experiment.
    Thanks for taking the time to show us the step processes.

    • @ArchitectureVanguard
      @ArchitectureVanguard  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You’re right, circles are finicky. There is always an edge of the circle you can use to constrain (likely in the sketch of the circle). As for the time parameter, I have not used it all that much but I know that both the time and speed parameters are used for the path of travel tool as of Revit 2020. I may look to do a video about that in the near future but they are hardly used to my knowledge.

      Architecture Vanguard actually open the sketch of the circle and turn on centre mark on the properties window. Then align and lock that

    I am not sure if its work mentioning, or maybe you do, that not all parameter types can be used in formulas? Like I do not think you can use formulas with text parameters?
    It's possible that I am thinking about the formula parameter, where it lets you do like Length + Height.
    I may have to watch the part about the family types, it was a bit confusing. It was hard to understand without a real family to look at, but maybe that was just me being slow lol.
    Good stuff man, I appreciate all the time you have put into this. I did not about the not() feature!
    edit: you cover formulas in the newer video, lot of good stuff in that video

    • @ArchitectureVanguard
      @ArchitectureVanguard  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you are doing something like Length + Height then text would not fall into the formula, although you could use text in a formula if you wanted to determine what a text parameter says. You might have a couple of word parameters and another with a formula to concatenate them. I have never used it myself but I believe it could be useful.
      I can see how not having a family to look at would impact the quality of the video, will be sure to have examples to show. The not() is pretty awesome and an easier one to use!

    • @JavierOropeza08
      @JavierOropeza08 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ArchitectureVanguard yes concatenate is what I was talking about. I thought you could do it, but I don't think it's possible. That's the stuff I meant , that not all parameter types work with formulas or with schedules/ sorting/ filters. Can't think of good examples, I just remember from working in schedules, things didn't always work as you think they should

    How can I add a parameter to a label text so it always stays horizontal?

    • @ArchitectureVanguard
      @ArchitectureVanguard  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That would not be a parameter but instead a locked rotational dimension. That would do it.

    • @ArchitectureVanguard
      @ArchitectureVanguard  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gary, this very well could be. Are you saying that when you go to make a new project parameter that you do not see slope as an option of a type or parameter?

      For Revit at least I would look for the highest speed processor you can find. Revit does not use all the core form a multi core processor like other programs. So single core speed should be high. Also at least 16gb or RAM will be required.

  • @darrylmarshall-u2l

    Sorry, really do appreciate the video but tracking back and going through the exercise there also seems to be a missing step creating a extra slope parameters. At 12:15 a 'desired slope' suddenly appears in the parameters, at 14:17 the parameter is now slope value appears? Its the little things especially in families that seem to upset the whole process.

    I don't know if it's just me, but I'm having a hard time trying to figure out how he change the last model to an instance instead of a type. I mean, it was OTHER in the Family type, but when he goes back CONSTRUCTION has taken it's place.

    • @ArchitectureVanguard

      I bet the parameters have the same name. I believe the project parameter will overtake that parameter of the family with the same name. You can recreate the parameter in the family or just change the category of it in the family. What kind of element is it?

    Slightly incorrect saying you cannot create formulae with combined parameters with different units - you need to convert the parameter to "unitless" by dividing by 1 before using the parameter in a formula
