I found sohyang about 5 years ago. since then, she's made my life different. she makes me strong and take life head on. finding out more and more about her, I fell in love with her. her story is one to be told worldwide. her voice, her voice is sent from the heavens. I don't believe in God or higher powers. But sohyang makes me believe that there might be one. in this time of age, she reminds me that humans can still be beautiful. her voice needs to be heard around the world. sohyang is a true singer. she is an artist. she is an inspiration. she is also a hero. bless this beautiful woman and may god heal her and make her life 100 times better!

It's because Filipinos (though not all) have a strong sense of "patriotism" and at times when it gets worse, it becomes egocentric. See all those "proud to be Filipino" comments everywhere when there's a Filipino (even half-Fils) performing internationally or gaining fame? See how there's a claim that Philippines is the "land of singers"? Though I'm not gonna deny that the Philippines have a lot of talented singers (hmmm vocalists... i can't say tho.. maybe some?). That's one of the reasons why there are Filipinos who doesn't like or even hate Sohyang. I can't take comments like "When Sohyang joins in the Filipino contests in the Philippines, she's nothing cuz her singing is common".. especially in Facebook. I'm Filipino and it's true. I love Sohyang and her singing and to me personally, she's the best vocalist I've heard (despite the presence of Mariah, Whitney, Barbra etc). Sorry for the long comment. XD
I am 56 years old, and to me, Sohyang is the best female singer I have ever heard. Yes the Filipinos do have great vocal abilities, but the one thing I notice is that about 99% of them go untrained, and lose their voice in their 20's. Seems that they want to... "SHOW OFF" their voice during those voice changing years, and thats not healthy for anyone. Charice is a prime example. She still sings, but does not have the voice she had when she was 17 or 18. She ruined it by not going easy through those tender vocal years. I speak no Korean other than knowing how to say Thank You, but Sohyang is my singer.
I don't understand why pinoys are so proud of themselves and mistakenly so when hordes of them have to come out to Singapore here to work, some with degrees to work as domestic helpers.

If I’m not mistaken, SO HYANG was diagnosed with cancer…after surviving the ordeal she saw her second chance at life as a gift from God and dedicated her voice/life to brining joy to others…she refuses a lot of money and big offers on record deals because of her promise to God…she didn’t want to profit from the gift. To all the people confused by the notion that Filipinos hate SoHyang: here's the T. Most Filipinos don't hate SoHyang, because SH is a very likeable person and there really isn't much of a reason to hate her. However, of the few people that still do hate her, almost all are very proudly Filipino.
Actually Filipinos are very chatty and fun in social and also most of them are humble when meet a foreigner or stranger unlike American or Korean people. According to my observation to this phenomena is always can be found in lower to middle or middle income countries, i think because in that countries the technology is not really advance so people live interaction is always happened, it creates their sympathy and empathy as part of social skill. BUT when it comes to competition or talent show, Filipinos are very competitive and always want to be the number one or being spotted one. It simply because there is nothing that prominent from their country to be proud of or to be recognized by global audience, so people's talent is the selling point to be used to get the fame and recognition from around the world. Something like miss universe thingy, singing power and skills and any other talent competition and selection of who is the best related to talent, knowledge and skills are already part of their nationalism. it's better to say you have better technology, education and entertainment than them rather than saying you have a better singer, because singing thing already been part of their prides to get the recognition from the world even tho you have the better one. Sorry for my english and long text.
Jesonoel Yes, this is exactly in line with what I have observed. It's a form of extreme nationalism, but they think of it as patriotism, as if they're fighting for their county's dominance (which is ludicrous since this is art and not war). Fr what I've seen there is some other factors at play. Like, for example, Filipinos seem to be at least a little more willing to acknowledge the superiority of a Westerner, but an Asian from another country besting a Filipino enrages them to no end. This I think stems from a sort of inferiority complex and colonial mentality. It's sad that SoHyang's name is caught in the middle of all this. I'm glad that she doesn't frequently use western social media sites, and as such I don't think she has seen the kind of videos and comments these people make to demean her. She definitely doesn't deserve that treatment.
S D Affirmative, your points are really spotted on. But i think something good happened lately in this "era", what i mean about era is the era of vocal coach reaction video. Almost all of vocal coach or at least all the real vocal coaches are approved Sohyang's mastery of vocal techniques and her great musicality. I think many of people including filipinos truly got educated about vocal techniques and musicality. I did noticed the decreasing amount of hateful comments and hatred videos towards Sohyang, although you still can find it even some of it has been uploaded early this year but the number of viewers and insulting comments are decreased significantly. She didn't deserve to be treated like that, especially for someone with talent, hard worker and really faithful. But for the good of us, we shouldn't got stressed by all these hatter's action and drama by worried about what Sohyang would've feel if she finds out about this all, because i think she can handle and face it all, she is a very very strong person. The most important is that we continue to share the love, support and pray for her so she can actually felt it. One pure love is much stronger than a thousand hate ❤️

According to my observation to this phenomena is always can be found in lower to middle or middle income countries, i think because in that countries the technology is not really advance so people live interaction is always happened, it creates their sympathy and empathy as part of social skill. BUT when it comes to competition or talent show, Filipinos are very competitive and always want to be the number one or being spotted one. It simply because there is nothing that prominent from their country to be proud of or to be recognized by global audience, so people's talent is the selling point to be used to get the fame and recognition from around the world. Something like miss universe thingy, singing power and skills and any other talent competition and selection of who is the best related to talent, knowledge and skills are already part of their nationalism. it's better to say you have better technology, education and entertainment than them rather than saying you have a better singer, because singing thing already been part of their prides to get the recognition from the world even tho you have the better one. Jesonoel Yes, this is exactly in line with what I have observed. It's a form of extreme nationalism, but they think of it as patriotism, as if they're fighting for their county's dominance (which is ludicrous since this is art and not war). Fr what I've seen there is some other factors at play. Like, for example, Filipinos seem to be at least a little more willing to acknowledge the superiority of a Westerner, but an Asian from another country besting a Filipino enrages them to no end. This I think stems from a sort of inferiority complex and colonial mentality.
It's sad that SoHyang's name is caught in the middle of all this. I'm glad that she doesn't frequently use western social media sites, and as such I don't think she has seen the kind of videos and comments these people make to demean her. She definitely doesn't deserve that treatment.
S D Affirmative, your points are really spotted on. But i think something good happened lately in this "era", what i mean about era is the era of vocal coach reaction video. Almost all of vocal coach or at least all the real vocal coaches are approved Sohyang's mastery of vocal techniques and her great musicality. I think many of people including filipinos truly got educated about vocal techniques and musicality. I did noticed the decreasing amount of hateful comments and hatred videos towards Sohyang, although you still can find it even some of it has been uploaded early this year but the number of viewers and insulting comments are decreased significantly. She didn't deserve to be treated like that, especially for someone with talent, hard worker and really faithful. But for the good of us, we shouldn't got stressed by all these hatter's action and drama by worried about what Sohyang would've feel if she finds out about this all, because i think she can handle and face it all, she is a very very strong person. The most important is that we continue to share the love, support and pray for her so she can actually felt it. One pure love is much stronger than a thousand hate ❤️
