I think So Hyang is a living legend. There are only few of those in the world right now. She has over 20 performances that will blow your mind and another 20 or more that is phenomenal. Yes there are other amazing singers out there but i think she is pound for pound the best at this moment. She knows how to connect with her audience. "You raise me up" is a prime example. She is 43 years old and still blowing us away! Some people might be wondering why So Hyang is not that well known outside of Korea, I highly recommend watching an interview of hers on youtube called "My turning point". It explains why she chose her present path. So i consider myself a So Hyang superfan. For those of you who just scratched the surface of So Hyang's music, here are my favorite live performances. Nikalsson Yea....., from number 6 through 10 is almost a tie for me but i guess her amazing Bb5's and D6 took a slight edge over Home. Although her headvoice in Home might be her finest next to Fate. I need to watch "Part of your world" few more times. I know i quit after 35 but i know she has few more. Also i ranked "You raised me up" before Home because it gave me so many goosebumps and emotions.
So far, i have 46 SoHyangs songs in my phone and that exclude no. 23, 27 & 32. I reckon you to listen to her own song 'Someday'. Its so catchy and quite similar to 'The song begins'
Hakimi Ibrahim I will definately check out "Someday". I have other artists i enjoy but none of them have the vast catalog of songs i enjoy listening to like So Hyang's. I have mild depression so i listen to her music 2 to 3 hours everyday. It helps immensely. Basically she is my therapist lol. So glad to respond to another fellow superfan as yourself. Robert Myers i hope your health will be better soon. Shes so magical and for me, theres no other singers hve the ability to make me feel so motivated and happy. And i just knew her less than a year.
Almost 6 years later, i'm still and always be speechless by that performance. I love the audience's reactions and expressions because it's exactly how it should be. I truly hope she still sings and doing well.
The greatest compliment you can pay this incredible vocalist is virtually no one noticed she's suffering from the debilitating effects of pneumonia whilst delivering an epic performance that possibly rivals the likes of "Everyone" and "Bridge over Troubled Water". Testament to her impeccable technique and just imagine what she can do when fully healthy...
Especially i think it would be really bad for her to lose her voice and not feel that fun and happiness while singing any more. I only hope the best for her!
Don't mean to burst your bubble, but most of the world calls the common cold Pneumonia. If you actually have, what we call pneumonia in the USA, you can barely breathe, let alone speak.
She suffers from fragile health due to having uterine cancer earlier in life. All we can do is wish that she can stay healthy and continue to do what she loves.

ZanMation Sohyang doesn't seem to have interest in doing OSTs (although she might have done something for the Korean version of Moana). Part of it is her health - her battle with cancer has left some health problems). She alsovisn' thrilled with the recording industry (her only album dif poorly). The main reason is she seems unconcerned with commercial success - she's a gospel singer

Totally impressed. I ugly cried when I first heard this... wait, I still cry its soo beautiful. If she still sounds this amazing while having pneumonia, she must be just killer eith healthy vocals. If you have pneumonia or some cold, etc could do damage to the vocal chords with straining. But she did amazing
I've been hearing many Korean singers. Many of them are really good at singing, especially the women. But her, So Hyang, I don't know how to explain this, but I think her voive has a different vibe. She's good at singing, really good, but it's more than the "good" word. Her voice is really fabulous, amazing, the vibe is really different. It's soft and strong at the same time. This is the second song I've heard that she sang. It's so pitiful I just found this now.

I think it's because she really believes in the lyrics she sings. At least that's the vibe I get when I listen to this and other songs like 'Arirang' and 'Bridge Over Troubled Waters' that she's sung. She's a cancer survivor who does a ton of charity work, benefit concerts, general outreach, and has been reported to overall just be a good person.
I'm going to be honest about something - I HATE most versions of "You Raise Me Up". To me, the major problem is each version is so carbon copy that they don't even bother with arranging the song differently AND its a singer showboating. "I can sing the song!" and never actually sounding like they mean what they're singing. I mean if you can't be bothered to put any effort into your song, why should I bother with listening to your song? All I have to say with regard to this version is it fixed EVERY PROBLEM I had. Different arrangement, the singer puts emotion behind it and while it CAN be argued whether or not she's showboating...I don't really care. She not only put her heart and soul into that but has enough talent as a singer that its warranted. So...thank you for a good version of You Raise Me Up.

This is her best performance ever, she just put her whole being into this song, I don't know if it was because she had severe pneumonia at this time and thought this was her last performance or something else but it was incredible. It started soft and vulnerable especially with that Duduk and flute sound, got stronger more rock vibes then gospel, and it all melds together so perfectly, It's like an Odyssey. Thank you Sohyang for this incredible performance.

For those who have not seen the interview by Emre Yucelen, the Turkish vocal coach, he went to S. Korea to talk to Sohyang, and she did speak of her liver not being well. She does take medicines to try and keep that cancer from coming back, and most of today's man made medicines do affect the liver in a bad way. I am always having blood work done to keep an eye on my liver, and all due to medicines that I have taken for most of my life. We should all pray for her healing. God uses her every day. She speaks to so many, in the best way, either from her words, or by her songs.
There are always treatments. Cutting back on the meds giving her the problems, and changing to another med that is easier on the liver. I have been there. They said I had liver failure, and now things have leveled off, and nothing has gotten worse for the past 5 years. My liver levels have gotten better, so its not a done deal yet.
That was honestly so, so beautiful. I’m not gonna lie, I was disappointed when I first heard she performed You Raised Me Up for this special because she’s sang this song already. Quite a lot too. But boy, did she prove me wrong. Not only did she kill it, snatching every weave in that audience, she literally blew me away. I don’t even know what I expected. That was honestly so...majestic, I almost cried. It sounded like a movie soundtrack, especially the beginning, which is amazing. I love that she really made it her own by changing it up like this. This is probably gonna be my favourite rendition of this song now, after the original, and that’s saying a lot.

Bcuz I've listened to her 1st rendition hundreds of time already. But I realized this is Sohyang we're talking about. She's talented & a genius when it comes to musicianship. So I put so much hopes to her to blown me away & oh boy did she does that... This rendition is so lovely & majestic at the same time. More complex & complicated, musically & vocally from the 1st one. I still can't believe she had pneumonia at this performance. Knowing what a devout Christian she is, maybe it's fair to say that God gave her the strength to do this performance, which continues to touch people who see it.
@@annaboivin9209 He always has a reason for what He does or doesn't do. The apostle Paul asked God to cure him of an illness, probably eye problems, but God told him "My grace is sufficient for you." God wanted Paul to work his way through his life in spite of his handicap. It made Paul a much stronger person, spiritually speaking, and that let Paul be able to do incredible things because he had to display that kind of courage everyday. It is the same with So Hyang. Do you think she would be anywhere near as impressive as what we see in her videos if she didn't have to rely on God to get her through her days? Not every day but enough of them to make her build spiritual muscle and character. That is, in part, what this life is all about. She even tells us that in the lyrics of this song! 😍😎🤩

Don't mean to burst your bubble, but most of the world calls the common cold Pneumonia. If you actually have, what we call pneumonia in the USA, you can barely breathe, let alone speak.
She suffers from fragile health due to having uterine cancer earlier in life. All we can do is wish that she can stay healthy and continue to do what she loves.

여기 온 라인에 올라온 소향의 노래들 중에 이 노래가 그 중 one of tops인 것으로 생각된다. 노래하는 방법은 가수마다 여러 가지이겠지만 소향은 고음을 그렇게 자연스럽고 흐트러지지 않고 끌고 올라가는 것이 단연 지상 최강이다. 휘트니는 소리 통이 크고 머라이어 캐리는 소리보다 기교가 더 많은 느낌이고 셀린느 디옹은 가장 좋아했던 가수인데 소향이 그녀들과 자신있게 어깨를 나란히 할 수 있음은 명백하다.

If you have pneumonia or some cold, etc could do damage to the vocal chords with straining. But she did amazing

I've been hearing many Korean singers. Many of them are really good at singing, especially the women. But her, So Hyang, I don't know how to explain this, but I think her voive has a different vibe. She's good at singing, really good, but it's more than the "good" word. Her voice is really fabulous, amazing, the vibe is really different. It's soft and strong at the same time. This is the second song I've heard that she sang. It's so pitiful I just found this now.

I think it's because she really believes in the lyrics she sings. At least that's the vibe I get when I listen to this and other songs like 'Arirang' and 'Bridge Over Troubled Waters' that she's sung. She's a cancer survivor who does a ton of charity work, benefit concerts, general outreach, and has been reported to overall just be a good person.

I'm going to be honest about something - I HATE most versions of "You Raise Me Up". To me, the major problem is each version is so carbon copy that they don't even bother with arranging the song differently AND its a singer showboating. "I can sing the song!" and never actually sounding like they mean what they're singing. I mean if you can't be bothered to put any effort into your song, why should I bother with listening to your song?
All I have to say with regard to this version is it fixed EVERY PROBLEM I had. Different arrangement, the singer puts emotion behind it and while it CAN be argued whether or not she's showboating...I don't really care. She not only put her heart and soul into that but has enough talent as a singer that its warranted.
So...thank you for a good version of You Raise Me Up.

This is her best performance ever, she just put her whole being into this song, I don't know if it was because she had severe pneumonia at this time and thought this was her last performance or something else but it was incredible. It started soft and vulnerable especially with that Duduk and flute sound, got stronger more rock vibes then gospel, and it all melds together so perfectly, It's like an Odyssey.

For those who have not seen the interview by Emre Yucelen, the Turkish vocal coach, he went to S. Korea to talk to Sohyang, and she did speak of her liver not being well. She does take medicines to try and keep that cancer from coming back, and most of today's man made medicines do affect the liver in a bad way. I am always having blood work done to keep an eye on my liver, and all due to medicines that I have taken for most of my life. We should all pray for her healing. God uses her every day. She speaks to so many, in the best way, either from her words, or by her songs.

yeh, she did say it (liver problems) may in the end stop her from singing.
There are always treatments. Cutting back on the meds giving her the problems, and changing to another med that is easier on the liver. I have been there. They said I had liver failure, and now things have leveled off, and nothing has gotten worse for the past 5 years. My liver levels have gotten better, so its not a done deal yet.
i cant imagine her losing her singing voice. thats like julie andrews when she lost her voice. 😢 im really scared now

That was honestly so, so beautiful. I’m not gonna lie, I was disappointed when I first heard she performed You Raised Me Up for this special because she’s sang this song already. Quite a lot too. But boy, did she prove me wrong. Not only did she kill it, snatching every weave in that audience, she literally blew me away. I don’t even know what I expected. That was honestly so...majestic, I almost cried. It sounded like a movie soundtrack, especially the beginning, which is amazing. I love that she really made it her own by changing it up like this. This is probably gonna be my favourite rendition of this song now, after the original, and that’s saying a lot.

But I realized this is Sohyang we're talking about. She's talented & a genius when it comes to musicianship. So I put so much hopes to her to blown me away & oh boy did she does that...
This rendition is so lovely & majestic at the same time. More complex & complicated, musically & vocally from the 1st one. I really love that she put more headvoice & runs in this one. She's done it again. Legendary, like always ＜3

I still can't believe she had pneumonia at this performance. Knowing what a devout Christian she is, maybe it's fair to say that God gave her the strength to do this performance, which continues to touch people who see it.

@@annaboivin9209 He always has a reason for what He does or doesn't do. The apostle Paul asked God to cure him of an illness, probably eye problems, but God told him "My grace is sufficient for you." God wanted Paul to work his way through his life in spite of his handicap. It made Paul a much stronger person, spiritually speaking, and that let Paul be able to do incredible things because he had to display that kind of courage everyday. It is the same with So Hyang. Do you think she would be anywhere near as impressive as what we see in her videos if she didn't have to rely on God to get her through her days? Not every day but enough of them to make her build spiritual muscle and character. That is, in part, what this life is all about. She even tells us that in the lyrics of this song! 😍😎🤩
