Shanidar I's physical description matches Creb's almost exactly, with his skull and skeleton displaying the same deformities and traumas Auel describes Creb as having (the real Shanidar I was likely deaf though, based on studies of the skull's ear canals). The discovery of this skeleton with its deformities and injuries, and thefact that Shanidar I was probably in his 40s when he died, suggests that at least some Neanderthals made efforts to care for and help fellow Neanderthals with physical disabilities. My daughter and I spent 30 minutes in a frantic panic, searching for our cat before we realized it was YOUR CAT on the recording 😹 😅 Your cat sounded concerned because of the tones of voices you were using 😂 Our cat was like, "What?"😮😮😮

This is one of the creative imaginings that Auel used in her novels, since we can't know anything about the inner thoughts of Neolithic peoples. I don't think the word "father" is used much, if at all, in the whole series. There are simply mothers and "men of the hearth." Both the Clan and the Others believe spiritual forces are responsible for giving children to mothers, therefore children only have mothers and siblings, and no man "claims" them except in the sense of a mother's mate being the foremost adult responsible for their well-being. The idea of children being owned property of their parents, by some weird right deriving from fertilization, is alien to the peoples in her books.
