I lived on flat top road, now where Swiss mountain village is. I was told that Daniel Boone would travel thru that area where there was an old wagon trail where we would ride motorcycles.

Excellent video. My paternal grandmother was born on the Blue Ridge in Georgia. She took me to the woods when she went for medicinal plants, roots, etc. We followed the steep trail into the darkest holler to the spring and tiny creek. Over 50 years ago. I can't remember all she tried to teach me, as I was a wee girl. I remember some things. I cherish my precious memories of my times spent with her. I string my peppers and can make a quilt by hand, as she taught me, and I often cook recipes of hers also. May she R.I.P. Thank you for sharing these awesome stories. ❤❤❤

This has so much to do with my genealogy. Thanks, from someone who has never been there.

You left out the Calloways. Thomas Calloway was my 6th great grandfather and was Daniel Boones best friend. The Calloways and Boones intermarried and were one of the very first families in the Watauga area.

I agree about the mountain independent gene. In my highland genes for sure. My wife is low country South Carolina and her ways of looking at things are much different. Mountain folk are no nonsense straight forward thinking people.

When I heard the part about being churched I thought about the church I grew up in in the minutes from the early 1900s it tells of a man that was brought before the church for drinking and was told he needed to apologize for it he said yes I took a drink but will.not apologize to anyone for it

Just found your channel and subbed. Have been searching for Appalachian channels for years. Suddenly videos come up in my feed that never showed up when I used search terms. Utub can be frustrating!

Great stories! I am a descendent of Isaac Thomas 1/2 Cherokee and the last of our family’s keeper of days past. I am
In 1985 my Great Uncle Paul Thomas our Keeper Of Days Past died. As the oldest of three brothers I was the next Inline as Keeper of Days past. In 2009 my father asked me to write down the stories and get them published, so the stories will never be lost. The next morning my father was eating breakfast and died a short time later. I tell you this, because the stories are all we have, protect them.
In May of 2018 I self published Lost Warrior part 1, in October of 2018 I self published Lost Warrior Part 2 Last Days of Greatness. The third is Lost Warrior Sons of Fire is a manuscript.
