My family were the Townsends in “Goo -Goo” ! Jon Townsend still lives there and he has vast knowledge of the history, along with the “Heathen Valley “ story of the 2 Townsend Brothers that settled there in early 1800’s

My great uncle pastored the Meat Camp Assembly of God for years. Lots of my kin are from Ashe and Watauga county.

My grandpaw that was raised up close to there, always said Meat Camp's name came from the Daniel Boone story, that he hunted up in that vicinity due to the abundant wildlife. (He was born in 1918 and he said that his grandfather, who was born in the 1850s, had always told that same story.)

Run, get to the Tabernacle of David right away! The church is rejected in the Northeast Tennessee, all the denominations, no one assembly in the entirety of the Bible belt will be without excuse, all of them will die by the sword of their own brother, for God has called a certain people it is gathered and chose his elect, his own place of establishment of the refuge for the time of the end, this is for the fugitives and those who are oppressed he is prepared a bride of his own like an all the churches in America will be given unto the altar of burnt offering there will be a purification offering, and the offering of the purification is a complete destruction of the United States of America and the church is the add that led the nation does it have the light of the Gospel to overcome darkness yet churches are in every corner with zero impact, each one of you who says that God is with you in your church is a liar if you live a surrounding regions of Northeast Tennessee and around, that's why your places are filled with evil in your cities are filled with idolatry with your brazen acts of Christmas worship with to A Jesus that is not Christ of the Bible you have made God angry by the image of jealousy the image is this that you set up for your own good, a graven image in your church of a man that is not Jesus and of a tree that you decorate for a man that is not born on December 25th, Jesus has rejected you in the presence of God will utterly bring you down to death or through the refiners fire, and the fires of the furnace will consume you! All that you read is going to take place truly that's going to take place!

Is Boomer Potter's cabin still standing ? I remember it being of huge, reamed chestnut logs. Near the summit of the ridge on the old road through the Pottertown gap I remember an old "museum" of washing machines. Well there were a couple of washing machines thrown out by the side of the road. A little way down the hill you'd find some old wringer washers then down towards the bottom the remains of some old galvanized wash tubs. My first wife and I rented a house from a man named Moretz on an old logging road just a little way past Henry Winebarger's old gristmill.

I heard it was never “meat” it was meet. People just changed it like they do.
One of the oldest settlements where folks would meet.
I had also thought the Amphibolites forests are more desirable habitat for wildlife than the adjacent Blue Ridge and could have resulted in a pooling of game.

Hate me for it. Boone was more enjoyable and pleasant prior to 2000 and the ASU expansion. Locals playing music on all the streets. Crime was non-existant. Air so cool, hvac was rarely seen. I quit driving down king street enroute to Mtn City. Due to lib students throwing their starbucks at my Disabled Vet tag. Wish the clock could be turned back.
