- I finally got to experience Singapore's last remaining village, Kampong Lorong Buangkok. It is a village located in Buangkok in Hougang, Singapore. Built-in 1956, it is the last surviving kampong located on Singapore Island in the 21st century!

I brought my Morrocan colleague there for work reasons (like we had official reasons to be there) and he cried after doing his Friday prayers there. He said that he had worked and lived in many countries but this felt the most like home.
Maybe the kampong feel reminds him of home.. i'm not sure how typical moroccan houses look like but i think it's not like the urban city area
Gosh this is amazing. And it's maybe a little bit sad that Singapore is so good at maintaining a lot of its colonial and Peranakan history, but sometimes the Malay history seems to get a bit pushed aside. Maybe I'm mistaken and I would happy to be told as much, but as an outsider it has always seemed a bit this way.
Kampong life looks so nice. All those nice trees and such are a natural way to deal with the heat. And the idea of a village of people who all know each other is so appealing in this modern world.

I would live in such houses. OMG i think this is the luckiest kampung that wasn't required to be demolished for new upcoming project for the past fifty years!!! Thanks for showing us around. Hgggg.
Not so long ago, Singapore was populated with kampungs all over the island. Until the 90s, Sengkang and Punggol were still a kampung with plantations, fishing boats, pig sty, chicken farms, goat farms, etc
Within a few decades, they were all gone.
Sadly I never get the chance to live in kampung, I only visited my great grandmother in her kampung when I was a child. However, I can still vividly remember the spaciousness, the crops that she grew, chicken pen and things like fire stoves that use firewood at her house. Very different from where I stayed.
During the 60's we use to call it as "KAMPONG SELAK KAIN" which literary means KAMPONG where the people there would raise their loin cloth of sarong whenever it floods.
The residents must be surprised and excited to see 'a life Barbie doll' at their kampung.
This village looks absolutely stunning Georgia, Singapore never fails to disappoint, a wonderful Country.😀🇸🇬❤️
I've been to Singapore once, for my honeymoon (5 years ago) and absolutely fell in love with the culture, the people, the diversity...I would love to go back but with covid and a three year old little girl things aren't easy...watching your videos makes me so happy because I feel like I'm reliving the experience! We used to buy an ice lolly for 5 cents from a neighbour's house. Their back door was always open and that was where the kitchen fridge was.

Thanks for featuring Kampung Lorong Buangkok. It reminds of my childhood. I was actually living in this village till 1997 and the government ordered us to relocate to make way for development. Lorong Buangkok used to be much bigger than the current size. The area where I used to stay is much deeper inside and it's a 30-minute walk to the main road. Some times, Taxi Drivers don't even want to go there because they felt that it was really remoted. Thumbs up Georgia and her friends for their effort.

So nostalgia...just brings back memories...back then when we were young, we love to go n visit our aunt who lived in the kampung....n over there, our cousins will bring us along n pick ripen rambutans n durians😂sometimes he can even tell which ones r gonna fall off from the trees...so we will stand or squat n wait patiently 😂👍miss it so much😩

Loved this! It's so peaceful in the kampong! The Philippines and Malaysia share some parts of our culture, so it was nice to learn from the Malays :)
I do miss the iced candies we used to have as children. They were such nice afternoon treats! We would tear off a small part of the plastic at the bottom (not open the tied end) and eat it from there. We also used to make and sell them to friends and family.

Nice vid and had no idea it existed in singapore ! Takes me back to the older days and do remember the ice lollies which is actually translated as “water rocks” as in “air batu” = fun fact ;-) the pickle mango looks tasty too but try the guava with the sprinkles as it’s yummy too ! I would really love to show you the really authentic kampong houses in Malaysia, where my relatives lives. The heat, the kampong gardens/plants they have in the back of the houses. When it's at night you could see millions of stars visible in the dark sky.
I live near that place and I sometimes go there to explore when I'm bored. 😁😁
For now they haven't completely demolish the kampong but i'm scared one day it will vanish...i remember visiting there as a short 'school trip' and i love how you feel like you're disconnected temporarily from the busy modern singapore and immerse in the peaceful atmosphere
I used to live in old Taman Jurong where flats were built by JTC. Some of the houses at the first level sold flavored ice tubes for 10 cents. As kids, after playing at the playground, we always knocked on the window panel of these houses to buy one tube of ice to suck.

@@cslee7114 Oh I used to move around at Blk 6 and 9. Those were the days man. Beside these blocks is the diamond block or 21 storey flat, the highest in Taman Jurong.

I was living in 'Kampung" like this in Jakarta 🥲, fresh air, so quiet and smell many trees around my house... but the only problems is mosquito coz I hate it 😅
When I lived in Singapore in the sixties there were kampongs all around. We lived on Leonie Hill Rd. and there was one there. I remember looking down at it and wondering about it. We were told under no uncertain terms we were not to visit them. The people that lived there did not want "Europeans" in their territory.

Back in those days you can just leave the door open and nobody is going to trespass into your home except for those chickens or cats or maybe your neighbour’s little kids.
There are plenty and more authentic kampung in Malaysia

It’s sad that singapore is getting more and more modernist and many nostalgic places has demolished and make way on newest buildings to keep up with the trend. It’s great to have the last kampung in Singapore but we’ll never know when it will last.
It’s nice to see houses with some spaces in Singapore. But I’m sure is so bloody 🥵 Trying to stay away from the heat not to live in an oven. Sorry to say that it’s not my place. Thanks for sharing!
This Kampong used to be bigger back in the day. It has shrunk quite a bit.
That's the last heritage of Malay ethnic there, as history described once upon a time the island belong to them before other ethnic invasion took over their whole land and named Singapore.
