For air conditioning, you might want to try out the dry mode instead. It takes out the humidity in the air and cools the surrounding. Dry mode saves a lot of electricity.
You could probably do a budget edition. Maybe start off with popping by a coffeeshop for a takeaway kopi and some NTUC

Money-saving tip: Set the air-con to dry mode to save 80% of the electricity compared to using cool mode.
The good thing about singapore is the choices, you have a huge range of food and necessities depending on how you want to live. Shopping at Cold storage for daily needs everyday is probably considered for people who are well off. I used to live in London, I consider shopping at M&S expensive and would go to local markets or Tesco. Regarding the situation about aircon, most locals don't switch on their aircon all the time while at home or sleeping, they will usually try using the fan first. If it gets really hot then aircon is used (usual practice in most of SE Asia)I do noticed that my foreigner friends carry over their habits from their countries, like goose down pillows, duvets etc which i think is why they are quite hot at night, most here use cotton sheets and light blankets.

Usually for grocery shopping - Singaporeans will shop at SHENG SHIONG / FAIRPRICE / GIANT a bag of house brand chips will cost approx S$1?
You can find S$0.50/ piece sushi @ sushi express.
We don’t usually dine at cafes - weekends are exception. People usually dine at Hawker centres/ food court/ coffee shop
Variety of options from Japanese/ western/ local/ Korean cuisine. A meal will probably cost S$4 to S$7
Transportation wise - is pretty affordable if you take the public transport $0.60/ trip (no one takes comfort cabs, grab / gojek/ RYDE are available islandwide and probably cost $10-$15)

You need to know where to get the food and necessities.
Its not expensive if you skip those fancy restaurants,cafes and high end supermarkets.

@@leongyet9896 indeed you are right. I loovee eating at Hawker center or Kopitiam. The wet market also cost much cheaper than in Supermarket and the place is also quite convenience :D
Cold storage is the prices are steep. Try ntuc or sheng siong... Snacks! Go ABC or value store.... Life will never be de same again
I am not sure if any of you heard of this or if expats can change utilities service provider, but I changed from sp services to union and I saved quite a bit! If you guys would like to, you can call the other service provider up to understand more :) Hope you enjoy singapore more!! :)

Raffles Hotel is a lovely place. I used to hv clients from the hotel (tenants of the shopping arcade) and love going there just to appreciate and enjoy the classic layout and architecture of the place.
The Bistro in Nassim Hill has free flow prosecco etc with a food bill of $35. Starter and main course and free drinks. Highly recommend the food.
Y'all have to remember that they're living on the "pricier" scale and since they're expatriates, I am guessing, drawing a pretty good salary too, if not comparable to singaporean counterparts. So given that they're staying in a condo and shopping at pricier supermarkets, it is not the "average" Singaporean cost of living for many.
Also if the airconditioning is on all the time, it's going to be a big expenditure, naturally.
You can change to SIngapore power wholesale plan which is about 20-25% cheaper than the Singapore power retail tariff rates, no contract needed unlike those OEM power retailers.
It will still be on the same SP bill.

there is a cafe/ retail spot called monument lifestyle at 75 duxton road its really cute and they sell stuff as well .. a-little pricey because their retail side are supporting local brands and are hand made ( clothes / jewellery )? they sell candles ? room spray ? etc .. coffee is a little pricey but definitely WORTH checking out.
On air conditioner for an hour before bed then off and on fan for the rest of night will save $

Even Malaysians agree that besides house n car prices, groceries prices in Malaysia are higher than Spore, based on their salary which are generally lower than Spore. If you earn Spore money and spend in Msia, then it's cheap

I think there are actually a few arts colleges besides Lasalle. There are NAFA (Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts) and ADM (School of Art, Design and Media). I would consider these two other schools as arts colleges but I might be wrong...

Temperature at night averages around 25 degrees Celsius during this time of the year. Use a fan, it's cool enough to sleep well. No need to turn on the air con.

Cold Storage is often considered the "atas" supermarket in Singapore. I think most local Singaporeans would visit Giant, NTUC, or even Sheng Siong. Prices are usually cheaper there. You really can save quite abit.

@@GeorgiaCaney but I have to admit. There are certain brands of products you can find in cold storage that you probably won't be able to find in the other supermarkets. So usually, I would visit cold storage only if I want to buy something that I know can't be found in the mainstream supermarkets.
Yeah it’s my local, and sometimes just easier to find go there quickly. Wish we could merge all the supermarkets so we don’t have to keep going to separate ones for certain products!🙌🏻

Hi Georgia. I also use ShopBack for my online shopping. If you're raking in $5K of shopback that means you have spent thousands of dollars to get that amount. You might want to put a disclaimer when you’re promoting shopback.
I think Meiji uses milk solids with fresh milk, meaning it’s not 100% fresh milk
for chocolates, you can try Valuedollar.
I use fan (Full blast) unless its Really Hot then I use aircon.

Hi Georgia. I thought I should share with you on setting the temperature for your aircon. The optimum temperature to set is 25 degrees Celsius. You may think that it's not going to be cold enough but trust me it will be. Setting 17 degrees will literally make the compressor overwork and hence the expensive electricity bills! Maybe you can try next time after you've serviced the unit ;)
No we always have on 24/25 degrees. Our bedroom aircon was broken that’s why it was on the lowest temp because it was still not blowing cold. :)

Wow. Our SP bill is $400 a month Electric works out $10 a day with Aircon on 24/7 set at 25 degC. We are in a 3 bedder. Do you have electric hot water ?

I don't use airconditioning at all. Just a standing fan and thanks to the location of my flat I can easily get a cool breeze when I open my windows.
that's great... i also don't have aircon, but i can't keep my windows open as there's incense burning on a weekly basis where i stay here and being on a low floor, the smoke, smell and ashes do go in if the windows are not shut in time...

Just want to say it depends on where you choose the location to be, i know ppl near to city center who has found apartments (condo) for less than 3k for 2 bedrooms...
She chose to live in condo...you can choose to live in HDB which is cheaper than condo with bigger space and more rooms.
Her condo is near the city centre. If the condo was away from the city centre and closer to where most locals live, the rent might be around $1.8k-$2.4k for a similar sized apartment.

Most Singaporeans don't turn the AC on but I don't get how they survive in the heat! It's so hot!
I was shocked when I saw the temperature on your AC remote 😂😂 I am usually really afraid of the cold so I sleep with only the fan on and still have my blanket up until my neck sometimes, when I do feel hot I turn on the AC to a 25 degree c and then switch it off after 30 mins just to cool the room down a little 😂😂😂 17 would have been way too cold for me HAHA

Singapore is cheap compared to London, where the cost of living is twice as much as the pittance you're paid for pretty much any job out of university.. At least in Singapore, you can actually put food on the table after paying rent and utility bills, unlike in London or New York..

I think that is quite misleading even tourist don’t spend that much a day on average basis.. On average meal a day cost $10 - $15, Transport $3 - $5, Utility $3 - $6, Rental $40 - $80 (condo), $30 - $50 (HDB). The main bulk of it comes from your rental so depends on what you want to stay higher or to save higher. Culturally different, westerner loves to spend but Asian loves to save. I am a Singaporean living in Hong Kong one of the most expensive city in the world and yet my daily average is only$120 - $150. I guess at the of the end it depends on what you want.
Singapore is one of the cheapest countries when you factor in the low cost of government - I.e. low taxes.
My expense is damn weird. On weekdays I have a $4 Lunch at a coffeeshop then go across the street to have a $5 Coffee.

You could use a fan.... Or maybe 2 or 3 fans, open the doors and windows (a little)... This can save you some $.
Also, locals don't do groceries at cold storages and don't always buy imports.
That's a bit of a sweeping statement. I'm local, whenever I shop at cold storage, there're always tons of Singaporeans getting their groceries too. Sometimes it's the nearest mart for us, sometimes we want a particular "angmoh" brand of granola, tea or almond milk not available at NTUC or giant.

Nice video. I have a different view of the air con use. I run in Singapore and the only way to acclimate to the humidity is to not live in the air con. It is quite challenging to adjust to the heat if you always sleep in the air con. Just my opinion. I do the same when I run in the winter in the USA. I run in temps to -20. That's my MO. Not many do that though.

There is 3 big art college that is well known in Singapore: Laselle, Nanyang(aka NAFA) and Sota.

An average Singaporean doesn’t spend that much. I think a huge disclaimer is that it’s only “pricey” because of the lifestyle expats live by which is a luxury - different from the locals.
