    Beautiful autumn colors and falling raindrops is always so lovely. What a stunning place to walk. I love to get videos with falling leaves. Always so peaceful. That was a very interesting tree with all the fungi on it. (I think it was fungi) I had to go back and look at that tree again. I read other comments about coins in the tree. LOL. Perfect rock shape for a rest.. Mary the tree hugger. NICE! Thank you so much for such a beautiful video. Blessings and safe hiking.

    Beautiful videography as well as your still photos. Living in northwest Oregon now and previously from northwest Washington, during the fall and winter if you don't hike in the rain, you don't hike. I agree with you that the rain makes colors more dramatic. Thanks for sharing.

    Autumn leaves and mossy covered stones are beautiful.

  • @johnalden5821
    @johnalden5821 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    For those who have not seen them, this is the closest thing I have seen in your videos to the Appalachian mountains in the U.S. Plenty of moss-covered rocks, rooty trails, waterfalls and trees (although the types of trees vary a bit and these here are much older growth). But I recognized some beeches and the colors looked like maples. So you need to hike the AT -- you will feel right at home!

    • @MarysOutdoorAdventures
      @MarysOutdoorAdventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The AT sounds beautiful John, a few people have now mentioned how this area reminds them of it!

    • @davidletz9123

      Any particular state you can recommend?

    • @johnalden5821
      @johnalden5821 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davidletz9123 In order, I would suggest New Hampshire (the White Mountains), North Carolina (the Great Smoky Mountains and the nearby Black Mountains), Virginia (the Blue Ridge Mountains) and then probably Vermont (the Green Mountains). Tennessee is just a mirror image of North Carolina, as the states' mutual border runs along the spine of the Smokies. You could do two trips: (1) New Hampshire and Vermont, which are adjacent), and then (2) North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia, which also meet in the mountains there. The Smokies and the Whites are perhaps the most challenging in terms of terrain and weather; the mountains are a bit gentler in Virginia and Vermont. Maine has the most remote areas of near wilderness as you approach the northern end of the trail.
      The tallest mountain east of the Rockies is Mt. Mitchell in the Black Mountains in North Carolina. Mt. Washington in New Hampshire is almost as tall, and it is located in the mighty Presidential Range of the White Mountains -- home of some of the most beautiful scenery (but also the most unpredictable weather) in the East. Many of the peaks in the Whites are above the tree line, which is fairly low in elevation there because of the northern climate. So, you get stunning views.
      You may encounter sub-freezing temps and snow in all of the Appalachian Mountains, from Maine to Georgia, between November and March. Temps up to 35 C can occur from June through September along most of the trail, except perhaps late summer in Maine, when it cools off a bit. I hope you visit and enjoy!

    This is beautiful. I agree with the commenter who says it looks like the New England section of the Appalachian Trail, or perhaps some trail in the U.S. Midwest. Did you start from Grindleford Station and walk north? How long was the walk?

    • @MarysOutdoorAdventures
      @MarysOutdoorAdventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much Steven. Yes I started from the station and walked north and in a circular kind of route, but it was more of a wander without a plan as it was a bit of a photography expedition. If I were to guess how far I walked I would probably say about 8 miles in total.

    Very nice. Some of the music sounded like it was from the 60s(my time). That looked like an old millstone at 8:12. Were they quarried in that area or were there mills? Nice resting rock too. Thanks for taking us along. Good Luck, Rick

    • @MarysOutdoorAdventures
      @MarysOutdoorAdventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Rick! Yes they were old millstones that after a little research I found out typically date from the 18th and 19th Century. They were used for grinding grains into flour in water, wind and steam mills. Some stones scattered throughout the Peak District were used as grindstones for sharpening steel.

    • @richardross7219
      @richardross7219 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MarysOutdoorAdventures We have some laying around in my eastern CT town. They were quarried nearby. 35 years ago, I knew the 86 year old owner of a quarry that had been in his family since the early 1800s. He still worked the making granite bird baths. My wife was from bayou country Louisiana and was fascinated by all of the rocks in CT(that wore off after we tried putting in a garden). I bought Martha one of the bird baths and set it up for her in our yard. If you want to see what it looks like, its posted on my IG Boyscout862.
      Some people have the mill stones as yard decorations. There is a working 1840s mill in MA that I visited many years ago. They give a good demonstration and explanation of how the mill worked. If you ever get a chance to visit a working mill, please do. Good Luck, Rick
