We did this walk in 2007, 2008, 2009, frequently, loved it. Took friends and relatives, they all liked it, a magical place. Picked wild bilberries in the woods. Back via the top route, saw the "Old man of the hills". A few wild sheep, birds of prey, a couple of lizards and a pine marten that was as startled to see us as we were it. It crossed our path, typical stance, stood up looked at us, as we looked at it. Probably thought the same as us, we thought, "Oh look, a pine marten", it thought, "Oh crap, two humans", we parted ways. Cannot avoid the mud, just go for it. Thanks for sharing.
So enjoyed your delightful video. What amazing countryside you are able to explore. Thank you for sharing. That was a beautiful rainbow. Good reward for certain. Blessings and safe adventures.
Love it . A beautiful old country with fantastic myths shared by such a lovely and cheerful voice . Keep up the great work and yes it has been delightful
Lud's Church used to be part of the Swythamley Estate. That's where the wallabies were from. Released from the private zoo at Swythamley Hall (a couple of miles from Lud's Church). Most died during the big freeze of 1963 but a few remained up until the early 1980s.
Thanks so much Cheryl! Yes we have had a lot of it recently and its forecast all week again - don't the weather gods know I have to go out and film videos?! 😆
Beautiful, green, mysterious and craggy old England! This was a fascinating video. Lud's Church was interesting. We know about the Lollards, as they were important precursors to the Reformation, and they are said to have influenced the Hussites, who began the Moravian Church, which then spread all over western Europe and the Americas. It is interesting to picture them hiding out in that slot canyon, reading their Bible fragments in English and looking out for the authorities.
Beautiful! Have been up to the Peak District a couple of times but never knew about this hike. Seems super unique absolutely love it thank you for showcasing it
Absolutely gorgeous video and perfect music!!! Thanks for taking me down memory lane, as we did this walk a year ago in similar weather. We did not know however about the winking man 😁 so we’ll have to look for that next time! Lud’s Church is so amazing, glad you had it to yourself 😊💚
At 20:51 the rock formation reminds me of the top hat from Alice in Wonderland and from Pride and Prejudice where Eluzabeth is standing and her dress is fully blowing in the wind. Nicely done Mary🦋❤
Mary This is one of my favourite videos you have done. The countryside in the Peak District is very beautiful. And I loved the music you selected. I have a friend who lives in Bakewell whom I haven't seen for many years now. I always think of her when I watch your hikes in the area.
@@MarysOutdoorAdventures Your welcome Mary. I will go again at some point. Stanage Edge near Sheffield and Dove stones Greenfield great walks too. Good to see your vid, amazing and clear ,your bright & bubbly which is nice to come across these days 👍. Thank you.
Delightful indeed. I’m truly ecstatic that you decided to make these hiking videos in YOUR country. How do you do it? Always choosing the perfect music to go with each video, I would love if you could include the titles of your music, I’ve loved them all so far. Thanks for clarifying the roaches (Les roches) for me, being French Canadian I now understand. I can’t praise you enough for all you do and the joy you give us. I will also bear through the adverts knowing you get something out of it. Thank you, thank you, thank you 🙏🏻❤️
Thank you so very much Anita. I think choosing the music takes longer than the actual editing sometimes - it's so tricky to get right so I am really happy to hear you like it. I really appreciate all your kind words (and watching the adverts for me 😉) it makes my day to know I am making people happy 😊💚
Mrs. Mary that was cool song about autumn, u r a ray of light amongst a trying time. 10 miles!!! I had wanted to do this route but with the starting point of Hen Cloud. Yours was a more logical and better thought out one from The Roaches End. Ramshaw Rocks was my 3rd Ethel of the day but as it was wet and misty I walked Hen Cloud along the Riaches to The Roaches End and AllTrails the just said follow the stream down to Ramshaw Rocks. So I stood there unable to work my phone in the mist and wet and did a left instead of right. Walked the road back to Hen Cloud. At least by watching your vlog I get to see the route as it should be and in all its glory. I had zero views. But hey ho. I've only just started my walking journey and found myself stopping frequently to get my breath but hoping this just gets easier with time. I'm heading back out to do the bits I missed, Lud's Church and Ramshaw Rocks as I'm on The Ethel Challenge. New Subscriber from Stafford. Great vlog.
Hi Chris! So glad you got to see the views that you should have seen on your hike - sorry you had poor visibility and a few hitches but it sounds like it hasn't put you off 😁 Have fun exploring and Lud's Church is great when you go back.
Loved this video, really enjoy how you share the history and stories of places as well as the amazing views, and how you're feeling about the walk. Was wondering if you would be willing to do a gear/clothing video for when you go out for day walks, please? I know you have kit videos for overnight and through-hikes but would love to see what you take when you're just out for the day, and how it differs......especially now the weather is turning in the UK (I worry about getting caught unawares).
Glad you enjoyed it Cheryl! So funny you should ask that - the video scheduled for this Sunday is 'Gear I Pack for a Day Hike - Winter' so I hope you enjoy it! I will add the clothing one to the list and film that soon!
Thanks for taking us along. The winking man was cool. By the way, there's a UK TV series that's not very popular in the US but my wife and I love it. Doc Martin. It's filmed in Port Issac (North Cornwall ?). Are there any hiking trails around there that would be suitable for a video?
Glad you liked it Tom. Yes I have heard of that TV programme - it's very popular here in the UK 😊 It's filmed quite far away from where I live - at least a 6-7 hour drive away. Maybe one day! 😁
Just watched the video and I have to say wow. Lovely part of the world there. I'm gonna do that one myself I think. Where would be the best place to start and far is it to get round?
