  • Is the MBTI personality system real? Well, I tested it! In this video we run some experiments on it, discover what it is about, talk to an MBTI expert, and I even interview people all the way over in China about it!

We start off with an experiment in which we let people do the test to see what MBTI personality type they are. But what they don't know is that we purposely give them the exact opposite answer! Will they notice?
Then I interview an MBTI expert throughout the entire video. He explains how the system works, the pitfalls, and answers all of my questions.
We set out and interview people on the street as well. Here people barely know about the MBTI personality system, but in China, which I visit next, people know a lot more about it!
But that's not all! Throughout the video we have people guess what our MBTI types are. And you as the viewer get to guess along with them!

no online test (that i've seen) was able to prove that MBTI is real. You only get to see how real it gets if you study the cognitive functions, which i did.
Learning MBTI really helped me with my personal life etc, so i recommend for people interested in learning more about themselves

I feel like mbti should be used to loosely understand the other person's personality, but shouldnt be treated like the words are carved in stone. People change and personalities change. Two people having the same mbti can be very different.

tbh I think the cognitive functions are the more useful stuff in mbti, just taking a random quiz alone is not much better than a BuzzFeed quiz. Also, the I or E as the first letter mean you are an in/extrovert. Some cognitive functions stack are just more extroverted than others and and I can be more extroverted in the layman sense than an E. eg. you can definitely find a more extroverted ISFJ than an ENTP just because ISFJ has Fe high on their function stack and ENTP has Ne Ti on top which aren't that extroverted out of the functions

this!! cognitive functions and function stacks are not only better at depicting the types and their nuances but they’re also way more interesting than the basics IMO

Agree! The cognitive functions and function stacks are the stuff that can be used to develop yourself in many ways, including to understand the basic of your thought rather than to just categorise people in each personality group. It really just more useful and well-defined to me.

To me personality is kinda like a slime slowly drying out. It's still plastic when it's old, but not as much as it used to me. MBPT only mesurs where you lie between two points, but what about the other dimensions and how can you know both of the points are good opposites. Our own perception also differs from how other people might perceive us. The way the questions are asked can also be a factor as well as our daily mood changes, but I do still think it can give a general idea of someone, but I'd be careful with putting people into boxes. I guess it's a way of feeling grounded when the world feels unstable and unpredictable

MBTI as well as most typing systems are psuedoscience. there. that’s the easy answer: they’re not nuanced enough and therefore they are not accurate measures of how someone is, especially if they are basing their MBTI off a test result or a vague description.
the cognitive functions and stacks are really cool to me, though. i’m a fan of jung and his theories and though MBTI is most definitely a pseudoscience, it can be fascinating for people who are looking to know themselves better and on a deeper level. it’s an entry. it should stay as that, though.

I agree! I think the most interesting part of the MBTI is the cognitive function which focus on what’s going on in your head more than just define on who you are or will be!
Although, the MBTI, like you said, is just an entry level for someone to explore, or, just like the guy in the video said, to grasp the basics concept of your personality. It’s great if we don’t take it too seriously, but it’s a shame that some people take it too seriously.
In the end, I hope to see more people talking more about cognitive functions rather than just the MBTI.
Glad to see, you’re Jung fan’s too!

The tests cannot be fully accurate. Watch Frank James' videos, they help you get a gage on how each mbti acts, which can help you see what type you are.
