I have watched so many videos in the past few days on magic loop it's unreal. I have dyslexia and don't have any 3d vision so you can imagine my spacial awareness and conception is all out of sorts. They way you explain everything in such details and slowly (with out being patronising) is brilliant. Everything has just sort of clicked and I get it!! I GET IT!!!!!!! Thank you so much, I'm now so excited to knit my first socks. ❤️🧡❤️
Learning Magic Loop is challenging for most people (it MOST DEFINITELY was for ME) but I can't imagine how frustrated you must have been, Rebecca-Ann! I'm so glad I could shed some light on it for you so go have fun with it!
This video is a godsend. Thank you! Did magic loop for the first time last night and shocked at the disaster I created. All the tutorials make it look so easy but don’t talk troubleshooting. I tried again today with your advice and it works now : )
This video is outstanding! I've been successfully using Magic Loop for a couple of years, but I struggle to complete my first 3 or 4 rounds done without getting confused. I can't tell you how many times I've had to go back to the cast-on because I've gotten lost in those early rounds. You have hit every one of my problems and how to avoid them!!! Thank you so much!
This has to be, handsdown the best explanation for magic loop on the internet! For me it's not enough for people to tell me not to do something (don't put the yarn in the front), I need to know why (because it creates a yarnover). When it's explained to me, I know what I did wrong when I have mistakes.
Me, too, Jennifer! I don't remember things nearly as well if I don't understand the WHY of something. (And I'm as bad as a 2 year old asking "Why?" about everything!) So glad to know this helped you!
Your advice to watch a few videos till one clicks is excellent. I was confuse by every ones explanations, top needle. back needle, etc. Finally i watched a video with one sentence that cleared up all the confusion. Your trouble-shooting is just icing on the knitting cake for me. Thank you.
This video is a lifesaver! I started knitting as a way to deal with COVID quarantine, so i've been doing a lot of DIY learning and YT troubleshooting. I thought i had mastered knitting basics until i decided to try magic loop and could not figure out why i kept having additional stitches on each round. i was about ready to give up, but after watching this video a couple of times, i finally understand why! thank you so much for taking the additional time to explain everything so clearly!
In fifteen minutes, you have addressed every problem I've ever had using the Magic Loop method and effectively broken down those issues to help me understand first, why they were problems for me to begin with, and second, how to correct those issues. I cannot thank you enough!!
Seeing your video has been such a huge relief. I'm blown away to watch a video where the person so exactly describes the way I'd look at something like that, the problems I'd have with it and shows amazingly clearly how to avoid the problems and what makes the problem occur. Showing the working yarn position on different needles, the question about the space between the stitches where you previously had been ripping out are all exactly the type of instruction that makes me give a huge sigh of relief. Finally!! Thank you so much :)
I'm so glad! I didn't realize how common our problems were until I uploaded this video. A quick glance through the comments will make you feel like one of the club! Glad you've conquered it!
Thank you soooo much Margaret! You are the only one who has made me realize why I kept getting yarn overs! I am so thrilled and I love hearing a Southern voice once again....
You are a lifesaver! I watched numerous videos to learn how to knit with Magic Loop. I just couldn’t understand any of them. Was ready to give up and came across your video and it finally clicked. Thank you so much for the video.
I dont think I could say THANK YOU enough! This has been the only video I've watched that's fixed my ladders. I was about to give up on socks but omg THANK YOU
Wow, this helps tremendously! I’ve cast on 6 times already because I’ve increased stitches because of the yard placement or saw laddering and thought that can’t be right! Going to try again tomorrow with this video right by my side. Thank you so much for the pointers! ❣️
Thank you SO much for this video. I started my first pair of socks and first time using magic loop 8 times and couldn't figure out what was breaking. You showed me both of my mistakes and now I have a full sock cuff! So grateful for you!
Honestly! I very seldom comment on videos but I had to say THANK YOU (in capitol letters) I have tried every technique there is for magic loop and this was it. Thus far I have used your techniques and no laddering. I am so happy. You are the rock star of knitting!
I've watched tutorials for several days and I've been a knitter for 50 yrs. I thought it was hopeless for me to understand. But thanks to you I think I've got it. Thank you so much
I'm so glad, Lynda! I remember how frustrating that pesky magic loop was until I thought of this this way. Glad to know I'm not the only one out there!
Wow! This helped. I just tried Magic Loop to reduce a baby hat and ended up with two open spaces. I think I had the working yarn in the wrong place and made a line of yarn overs. You are the ONLY one who helped with this. My spatials were all off. Starting again. THANK YOU!
You will never know the hours I’ve spent, the money I’ve paid for classes and the videos I watched trying to learn magic loop. All my problems were getting the back yarn in the right place to start knitting. Just couldn’t get the concept UNTIL your video. Watched once and now I’m able to do Magic Loop. THANK YOU!
You saved my first knitting project. I have watched so many magic loop tutorials but none of them helped me with the mistakes I kept making. Thank you!
Just watched this video - I have been struggling for almost 6 months to learn magic loop and now the struggle is behind me. Just stitched my first tube and I'm so excited. Now I know why many people love this method. Your video showed me my error that prevented me from being successful. I may try knitting some mittens just to practice some more before I use it for hat decreases. THANK YOU!!!
OMG after countless mistakes, either dropping the needle and not knowing which needle to knit, or not having a join at all, I FINALLY made MY very FIRST magic loop with my brand new needles!!! IF IT WASN'T for THIS video I would have given up, I even cried from frustration. Now I will rip it out and be sure I can do it again!!! LOL!! Keep your fingers crossed cuz I'm not sure how it happened this time!! I'm so happy I will be able to knit little tiny sweaters too for the teddy bears I felt, AMAZING!! Thank you so much for your time and lengthy explanation AND going SLOWLY for us very new knewbies to knitting, videos like this mean the world to us and are very hard to find! You my dear, are an excellent teacher!
Yay! I remember how frustrating it was and I'm so glad it's making a little more sense for you! Join the Facebook group and post a picture of your success! I'd love to see one of those little felted bears! (Link in description box.)
*ATTENTION* It is mandatory to watch this video before tackling the magic loop (named this as you need to be a wizard to understand whats going on) I had to start over so many times. My head just wasn't understanding the concept, especially at the first few rows of ribbing. I put the needles down searched through TH-cam and found this wee gem - picked back up my needles and I'm now half way through a pretty decent beanie hat. I have only just started knitting since COVID lockdown started, thought I should try my hand at learning something whilst being stuck indoors. Now I'm an addict. This video has helped my new knitting habit immensely. Thank you!!!
Awww... what a lovely compliment, Karen! Thank you! I'm so glad I had a tip or two to help you over the hump because I certainly remember how frustrating it was when I was first learning. Enjoy your new skills!
you probably stopped looking at comments on this video 3 years ago but, just in case, I want to say that you just gave me the courage to try Magic Loop again. I'm not fond of the fussiness of DPNs but I have ADD, which comes with major spatial issuses. I tried Magic Loop, but the other videos all overwhelmed me with all the rapid-fire flipping and needle-pulling, and I couldn't figure out how to get the yarn to come from the back of the needle. I'm going to start a new project today and try ML instead of DPN! Thank you! Also... telling us not to turn our stitches into hoochie mama pants is the absolute best description I have ever heard in a knitting video!!
What a lovely compliment, Wendy! Thank you! I'm so glad I could help because I remember how frustrating it was when I was figuring it all out! (My youngest has ADHD and his math, logic and spacial relations are in the genius category... why didn't you and I get some of that??? Ha!) Now that you've processed this info, you'll simply be able to pick it up in a flash! Now go make something wonderful!
@@sheepishlysharing That was the plan for the afternoon... unfortunately that space you said not to panic about got bigger and and bigger every round until at 5 rounds I had laddering an inch wide from top to bottom.LOL! So I pulled it all out and started over on DPNs. BUT -- for the first time I understand the process of setting it up and what direction to turn. And i just messed up the stitch count on the DPNS, so I'm frogging it again anyhow. Not my day for knitting, I guess,
Six years after you did this video . I have just started with magic loop and have ripped out my first few rows about 10 times and finally gave up. But your video popped up in my feed today and I'm going to give it another try. Thank you! Cheers.
I'm so glad, Catherine! This is what TH-cam calls "evergreen content." My camera, lighting and editing skills have improved over the years but this information is still very much relevant (and will be as long as we still knit with magic loop!)
I cannot thank you enough for figuring out the problem I was having with Magic Loop. No matter what I did I was getting ladders! Not any more!!! You're awesome! Thanks so much :-)
Margaret, I love your tutorials...I have watched and made several of your crochet hats and now picking up knitting again. Magic loop is a new concept for me and grateful for all the videos on TH-cam including yours that have been quite informative. God Bless you Margret you cheer me up.
Thank you Margaret for this video! I have been making all of these mistakes. This has helped me so much since I have been crocheting a lot longer than knitting and I knit continental style seeing this tutorial everything just clicked! Yay!!
Hahaha! Thank you, Froggy! There are plenty of great tutorials out there but none on some of the common problems we run into when we're learning. I'm glad to know it helped a little!
Margaret, thanks so much for your very clear video how to avoid or learn "how to" maneuver the yarn in the M. Loop. My biggest problem was tangling the yarn inside of the loop..grrrr By you teaching to hold the yard in the middle and pull back, it alleviated that problem. I'm subscribing! Thanks again.
Thank u sooo much for this. I’m an experienced knitter but had never tried circular needles..I’ve bought really expensive yarn for a jumper and was totally baffled by the pattern. Unable to start even! Watched this and practiced on old yarn and hey presto I’ve cracked it 👏. Thank heavens for tutorials like yours 😉
Yay, Susan! Don't you love that feeling of accomplishment?! And yes, I agree... what did we do before TH-cam? I've learned so many wonderful things, too!
You helped me with my issue of adding a yarn over in under 3 minutes! As soon as you showed knitting in the round v. Magic loop side by side, I figured it out. I don’t know why I was having a disconnect but you truly helped me! Thank you so much! 🧶
Your troubleshooting tips are extremely helpful! I'm experiencing a few of the fears & problems you just described & I realize exactly what I'm doing wrong. I'm going to give it another shot! Thanks so much!! Hugs, Vina
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO!! I had been trying to learn the magic loop and kept giving up after only one or two rounds, ripping it out and starting again. I'm about to finish knitting my first full peoject using magic loop and its all because you told me to not worry and keep going. I couldn't believe it!!! ❤❤❤❤
Thank you! I was having the same problem (ripping out all my stitches after the first round because of that huge gap). Thank you for showing and explaining how it takes care of itself. You gave me what I need to try again.
Thank you so much for this video. Very clear explanation. I too am struggling with magic loop, esp the ladders. I have just ripped out and tried your tips. They worked!
Margaret, Margaret, Margaret! You ROCK. Love your teaching style. And......is that Continetal knitting I see. I'm a newbie and I think that is much easier for me. I only want to make socks but ,so far, I've made about 75,000 (almost ;-) dishcloths and I'm ready to hit the "sock market". It looks to me that if I can conquer the magic loop, it will be a very good step in the right direction. Thanks so much for your time.
So glad I could help, Pat! I remember vividly how frustrating magic loop was when I was first learning! That thin, light sock yarn feels so tiny when you first start to work with it but it will feel "normal" very quickly! Have fun!
I can't tell you just how much this helps! I can never get magic loop to work for me. Thanks to your video, I can see what I'm doing wrong. Thank you so much!!!
Oh My Goodness! I am the most spatial relationship challenged person on the planet! Your video really helped me to see that knitting in the round has the yarn coming from the back of the needle and magic loop is different. No wonder my stitches were looking wonky on magic loop! Thank you!!!
great tips. i ripped out a bunch of times because of the ladders and was just about to give up on magic loop until i watched your video. thanks for the help!
I'm so glad you found it helpful! I remember so frustrated when I was just beginning magic loop... Not only did I want to pull out the yarn repeatedly but I was about to pull my hair out, too!
I am so glad you shared about spatial relationships, I have struggled with that my whole life and....I still am. Watched your video again, am still having trouble with the working yarn when I turn it around to start the next row!
Ah, yes... spatial relationships. Ugh. Well, now you know exactly what to look for so you don't have to try to figure it out! Simply memorize where to place your working yarn once you turn your work!
I've used the magic loop method for a long time, but new tips always help. You must be a school teacher as your explanations are so clear and your voice is so nice. I also wonder if you are a southerner with your hootchie mama comment. Bout made me blow my coffee out my nose. Keep up the helpful tips.
Hahaha! Yes, I was a teacher and yes, I'm a Southerner but I didn't think you'd need a "hootchie mama" comment to give that away as my accent is the first clue! Thank you for the kind words, Flo! It was very nice to wake up to this morning!
Just found this great video. i already do magic loop but just wanted to say "Hi" from another Margaret from Mississippi and comment that you are the first person I ever saw who tensions the yarn with your fingers the same way I do (I am also a Continental style knitter). Love your videos, thanks from Tippah County, MS!
I'm so glad you popped in, Maggie!! (Our daughter is a Margaret who goes by Maggie!) We ARE Mississippi natives yet just a few years ago we moved to Atlanta and we'll be moving to Texas this Spring (where our Maggie lives) for our "retirement." Our oldest son lives in L.A. and the youngest son will be attending the University of North Texas next year so it helps to get closer to everyone... BUT... we'll always be Mississippians at heart! And on another note, we have a great black eyed pea recipe called Tippah County Caviar! Ha!
I can't begin to tell you how grateful I am for your, excellent teaching.. It was as if you had a Birdseye view into my brain and how it operates. Thank you so much!
I've felt soooo much like I couldn't get this until I stumbled onto your troubleshooting tutorial. Now I've got it!!!!! :) Thank you so much for sharing.
I wish I had watched this before I started with Magic Loop knitting. A lot of the mistakes I was making could have been easily avoided. Frogged way too many projects💔. This was extremely helpful. Thank You :D
+Susan “Susie or poosers61” Stephen I'm one of those people who need to know "why" you do something! I didn't do anything different or new but just tried to explain exactly what was going on!
Thank you so much for that very well explanation of the magic loop. I've tried it so many times, but your method is so much easier to understand. Hope you are settled into your new home, take care, keep safe.
Actually, I didn't share any methods here, I merely helped you to understand what was happening! Once someone tells us WHY things are done in a certain way, the mystery clears up! So glad it helped!
Well done, my dear!! You nailed it! Very well explained! Your video is going to ease so many knitters' minds because you explained magic looping so well and the video was so clear! I think I told you before that I had to learn magic loop out of desperation to knit a pair of mittens for my daughter - my first pair! I don't like working with dpns so ML was my only choice. I love it. Again, good job! Love you lots!!
+Robin Tyler Saunter Yes... you told me that story and it still amazes me! Erin (Gimmeyarn418) chose socks as her very first project EVER! You two are geniuses to get your brain around all that for mittens and socks! Love you lots, too, Robin!
The few times YT made a good recommendation to me, this is definitely one of the time. You had covered some of my issues and provided solution and suggestions. Thank you for marking this!
Thank you so much!!! Very frustrated yesterday with each of the problems you addressed. I've tried magic loop several times over the years and have given up each time. But I'm giving it a go again because of a pattern I want to tackle. Now I think it might work out for me 🙂.
This video was FABULOUS!! Thank you thank you thank you for taking the time and effort to make such an awesome video! The last part of this trouble shoot tutorial was also where I have been getting frustrated with magic loop! You are amazing and keep it up my fellow knitter goddess!
I love this! I am a speech pathologist and work with occupational therapists. I don't know why I didn't consider spatial relations first! This was incredibly helpful!
Hi Margaret, your video helped me understand magic loop and I’ve shared it with others. It was perfect since I’m spacially challenged too! Just wanted to say thanks. Jack
Thank you so much, I’ve been spatially impaired all my life. I’ve been casting on with a 9 inch needle because of the big gap, and you’ve explained where all my extra stitches have come from. I still think I prefer dpns, they just are so much less hassle, especially with socks.
What a wonderful comment to wake up to this morning! I'm so glad to know I had some helpful info to share but even more glad to know you've lost some knitting frustrations! Enjoy those socks!
Thank you. You have made this make sense, I am a visual learner, have to be shown and explained on how it workes, you made this sink into my brain. Thank you.
WOW!!!! At last a tutorial that helped me sort out my magic loop problems!!! I’ve unpicked my first knit on magic loop scarf sooooo many times because of the ladder thing and because I couldn’t make our the needles and what I’d already done...I kept twisting it and trying to go back the way i came....I nearly gave up but thank you for a very helpful tutorial....I’m going to give it another go!!!👍
What a great video. Yes, I also have spatial relationship problems. I also kept have trouble struggling with that ladder - kept redoing it. Now I get it. Thanks so much for your excellent, and humorous, explanation.
THANK YOU, thank you, THANK YOU, Margaret! I'm new to knitting and really wanted to learn magic loop, but my first project had those ladders (I didn't even know what a ladder was). But your tips solved my problem, and now I really do like Magic Loop. THANK YOU so much.
You are a genius, thank you. My remedy for ladders was to cast on with dpns, work a few rows, and then transfer to magic loop. But I still kept giving myself xtra stitches from somewhere. God bless.
Well, my philosophy is to embrace creative solutions! If that worked for you then it's a good solution! It's simply more convenient to just start with one method but in the end, if you get a successful project AND you enjoyed doing it then... it WORKS! 👍
Hi Margaret, I LOVE you! I thought the same thing about tightening up the sts and still having a latter. I'd love to try socks and I stopped going just like you but I will now. I get it now. You need to be paid for all you do for us. You have a wonderful week. TY so much I'm excited to try some socks now.
+Alicia Bell I LOVE you, too! :) Sometimes it helps to get our brain around the "whys" of things. I've always driven people crazy with my "why" questions but it helps me understand and remember!
Love your analogy of magic loop the best I've seen yet and I have watched a few. My question is the placement of the working yarn I'm a throw knitter is it still the same way? I have the knitters pride cubics circular knitting needles and just love them have had them for several years, makes it so much easier on the hands. Thank you for the demonstration it was extremely helpful. I haven't tried magic loop for the simple reason was thought I was stupid on how to place my stitches and how to separate them maybe now I can try it, haven't been utilizing my circulars to their potential or my potential. Thank you for sharing and as always love, laughter and happy crafting.
Thank you, Linda! Glad I could help and yes, the yarn placement is the exact same. As a matter of fact, all knitting stitches are the exact same, no matter what method we use to accomplish them! The yarn still goes in the loop the same way, we just use different hands to make it do our bidding! (And I remember that same frustrating feeling when I was first learning magic loop!)
I followed all of your tips & it worked! You were right about the ladder working itself out! I'm so excited to have learned this technique! Thanks again!!! Vina
Wow this was so very helpful. Now I know where I was going wrong. Thank you a thousand times. You cleared up my confusion. And I also like the sites you referenced.
Really liked this video - the right mix of theory and practical explanations. The point that confuses me in magic loop is when my first stitch is a purl.
It’s Saturday and I’m working a basic beanie on my magic loop. I was making all those mistakes you talked about. I would restart just like you said. Because of your great video, I’m knitting right along with out those panic areas. No ladders! This is fantastic because I find DPNs too fiddly, especially when in my vehicle. I commute to work and spend a lot of time in my truck. Thanks again :-)
Margaret this is genius! Thankyou so much, explained in a way I can understand. Absolutely brilliant, I have now fixed my inside out magic loop glove with your help. 😊
And I thought I was the only one having these problems. So glad it's not just me. I got so turned around, making a glove, that I started knitting back the same side I had just come from somehow. I never figured out what I had done wrong. This video helped me see where I had the trouble. Thank you.
You have helped me tremendously!!!!!!! I finally get it!!!! Now I need to know how to prevent that "ladder" so I'll watch this again. Thank you! I have the problem you mentioned when following maps too. I can get to where I'm going just fine, but then to backtrack and return to starting point is a HUGE challenge.
Love it! It was so funny....I found myself nodding and agreeing with you during the video. You really cleared up my problems and helped me to understand the "concept". Now.........No Ladders! Hallelujah! I have struggled with it for years. Thank you so much for sharing your strategy with us. :-)
Loved this video. I’ve been knitting for years and still feel like I’m knitting for dummies because I can’t see those spacial relationships. You’ve given me the boost I need to try to go back to the magic Loop.
I feel your pain, Peggy! But now that you understand it, doesn't it make perfect sense?? It's almost like I could see that light bulb go off in my head when it finally clicked!
So good at explaining it! Thank you so much. Can't wait to try it again and see if the tips help. I didn't even consider that visualisation was even an issue!
This is a very good video as pointed out by many people below. I knit with the yarn in my right hand so I had to spatially get that through in my head. I think I have it. Thanks
Sorry, I can't knit English so I'm no help there! Tip: When I watch someone knitting with the working yarn in the opposite hand, I focus on the yarn and needle tips. We're all forming each stitch the same way, it's just the delivery of the working yarn that's different!
Margaret, This video is the god of all magic loop help! Thank you so much for sharing :) Count me as a new subscriber and keep posting. You're amazing. ♥
I think I've got it now; just need more practice. My problem was that I wasn't thinking about this as just regular knitting using a different method! Thanks for your help. I'll be referring to your video often.
After 23 times ripping my sock out trying to knit on circular needles, thinking it must be me,I found your tutorial. Thank you thank you thank you! 😘😘😘 one sock well on its way. Xx
thank you! I learned from Stacy (love her otherwise) and was having so many problems! all my stitches were twisted until at one point I flipped my knitting inside out and that seemed to fix it
Thank you so much. I've had so many attempts at magic loop but given up quicker due to ladders! Thank you thank you, I'm going to have another go, this time using your tips, I feel so much more hopeful it'll work this time!
Oooo.... keep me posted! There's no doubt in my mind you can do it! If you're still having trouble, let me know and we'll figure out exactly what trips you up!
Very thorough explanations & easy to understand pulse the up close pictures with no hidden anything that you are left wondering..what did she do? You are very very good. I would only request that you do a tutorial on doing garter stitch versus stockingnet as when I am knitting every row I get a stockingnet stitch rather than garter stitch. How do I apply pattern rows in magic loop? No real videos on this …am I not getting something here. Maybe I need to buy a book specifically for knitting in the round. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you
Glad I had something helpful to share! Regarding your question on garter stitch: Garter stitch is actually a combination of 2 rows. We're seeing the front and the back of the knit stitch. When worked flat, we simply knit every row BUT we SEE the FRONT of the knit stitch on 1 row and the BACK of the knit stitch on the second row BECAUSE WE TURN OUR WORK. Together those 2 rows give us the garter stitch. Sooo.... when working in the round, we DON'T turn our work. To get the Garter Stitch, we'll have to knit one row and THEN PURL the next. Problem solved!
+Margaret Olander (Sheepishly Sharing) Halfway through project and this is very easy! I understand the significance of the longer cord. Avoided "laddering". Watching your video first, then a how to magic loop video next, gave me an idea of what to expect and how to avoid any issues. Thanks for your help!😊
I have watched so many videos in the past few days on magic loop it's unreal. I have dyslexia and don't have any 3d vision so you can imagine my spacial awareness and conception is all out of sorts. I'm so glad to hear it! Isn't it strange how the human brain works? So happy to have TH-cam to provide us with so many good teachers!
I wish I had found this video 40 attempts ago. You are an actual angel. I could cry with relief, haha! Thank you so much ❤
You're so welcome! I remember that frustration so clearly and I'm glad to know I had a helpful tip or two to share!

I'm so glad it helped, Anna-marie! I remember being so frustrated with that process when I was learning!

Thank you soooo much Margaret! You are the only one who has made me realize why I kept getting yarn overs! I am so thrilled and I love hearing a Southern voice once again....
I'm so glad I could solve the Yarn Over Mystery for you, Maggie! I remember how frustrating all that was!
Thank you! This was just what I was looking for - not the basic "how to," but how to fix/avoid problems after doing it for a bit. You are insightful.
You are a lifesaver! I watched numerous videos to learn how to knit with Magic Loop. I just couldn’t understand any of them. Was ready to give up and came across your video and it finally clicked. Thank you so much for the video.
I’m so glad I could help, Joanne! Now have fun with it!
I dont think I could say THANK YOU enough! This has been the only video I've watched that's fixed my ladders. I was about to give up on socks but omg THANK YOU
I'm so glad to hear it, Megan! Sometimes it's just one little tip or phrase that can make a difference!
Wow, this helps tremendously! I’ve cast on 6 times already because I’ve increased stitches because of the yard placement or saw laddering and thought that can’t be right! Going to try again tomorrow with this video right by my side. Thank you so much for the pointers! ❣️
You're so welcome! It still takes a little practice but I'm glad I shared a few tips to help you along!
Thank you for your very lucid spoken explanation and excellent knitting demo!
So glad it help! Now make something beautiful!!
Thank you SO much for this video. I started my first pair of socks and first time using magic loop 8 times and couldn't figure out what was breaking. You showed me both of my mistakes and now I have a full sock cuff! So grateful for you!
Glad I could help!
Honestly! I very seldom comment on videos but I had to say THANK YOU (in capitol letters) I have tried every technique there is for magic loop and this was it. Thus far I have used your techniques and no laddering. I am so happy. You are the rock star of knitting!
That makes me so happy, Jackie! Glad I could help!
THANK YOU!
Yay! So glad I had something helpful for you, Janet! Have fun!
You saved my first knitting project. I have watched so many magic loop tutorials but none of them helped me with the mistakes I kept making. Thank you!
I'm so glad, Sarah! Once we understand the "why," it all makes more sense! Have fun with it!
I'm so glad to hear it, Malini! I remember how awkward and frustrating it was when I was first learning!
I find it eery that this very video shows up on my feed just a day after my magic loop fail... haha, thank you for showing me what I wasn't getting!
You are so welcome! Happy to know I could clear up a thing or two!
I cannot thank you enough for figuring out the problem I was having with Magic Loop. No matter what I did I was getting ladders! Not any more!!! You're awesome! Thanks so much :-)
Oh I remember that frustration, Yvonne! I'm so glad you're finding success now! It kind of feels like a whole new world opened up, didn't it?! Ha!
Margaret, I love your tutorials...I have watched and made several of your crochet hats and now picking up knitting again. Magic loop is a new concept for me and grateful for all the videos on TH-cam including yours that have been quite informative. God Bless you Margret you cheer me up.
I'm so glad I have something of value to share! Thank you, Attikisses!
Thank you Margaret for this video! I have been making all of these mistakes. This has helped me so much since I have been crocheting a lot longer than knitting and I knit continental style seeing this tutorial everything just clicked! Yay!!
+Tara Falso I'm so glad it helped! Now go have fun!
This video should be mandatory viewing for any other knitter who contemplates filming a magic loop tutorial!!!
Hahaha! Thank you, Froggy! There are plenty of great tutorials out there but none on some of the common problems we run into when we're learning. I'm glad to know it helped a little!
Thank you so much! This cleared up so many issues for me; position of working yarn, active needle, ladders.
So glad to hear it! I remember how frustrating it was when I was first learning. I'm happy to know I had something of value to share with you!
I'm so glad, Janice! Spatial relationships can be a bear sometimes!
Just started over past week learning magic loop. Your video helped me so much. My sincerest thanks for sheepishly sharing.
So glad to hear it! I remember how frustrating it was when I was first learning but once I wrapped these concepts around my head it clicked! Have fun!
This is one of the best tutorial I've watched on magic loop. Thank you Margaret.
What a sweet compliment! Thank you, Jenny! I'm glad you found it helpful!
I'm so glad, Tanja! Have fun with it!
Thank you so much for this video. Very clear explanation. I too am struggling with magic loop, esp the ladders. I have just ripped out and tried your tips. They worked!
I'm so glad to hear this, Sandra! I remember how frustrated I was at the beginning so I'm so glad I could share something helpful for you!
So glad to hear it! I remember how frustrating it was when I was first learning!
Oh My Goodness! I am the most spatial relationship challenged person on the planet! Your video really helped me to see that knitting in the round has the yarn coming from the back of the needle and magic loop is different. No wonder my stitches were looking wonky on magic loop! Thank you!!!
You're so welcome and I totally understand! So glad I could help!
great tips. i ripped out a bunch of times because of the ladders and was just about to give up on magic loop until i watched your video. thanks for the help!
I'm so glad you found it helpful! I remember so frustrated when I was just beginning magic loop... Not only did I want to pull out the yarn repeatedly but I was about to pull my hair out, too!
Margaret Olander hahahaha ❤🌹
Margaret Olander I'm a lifelong South Carolina girl. Had a bank customer that talked about the hootchi cootchi music.
I'm so glad to know I had a tip or two to share, Rene! I certainly remember those frustrations. Now go make something beautiful!
I've felt soooo much like I couldn't get this until I stumbled onto your troubleshooting tutorial. Now I've got it!!!!! :) Thank you so much for sharing.
I'm so glad, Dee! Isn't it strange how a simple trick or two can solve the whole problem?!
Margaret, thank you so much for this help! Magic loop has been very intimidating but your video has truly helped!
I'm so glad, Pamela! I vividly remember the frustration before figuring it out!
I wish I had watched this before I started with Magic Loop knitting. A lot of the mistakes I was making could have been easily avoided. Frogged way too many projects💔. This was extremely helpful. Thank You :D
This video is the best video to trouble shoot the magic cast on!! I almost gave up toe up socks but now I feel confident I can finish the pattern.
You explain it very well and go slow enough that I can follow along, (in my head) step by step. thank you for taking the time to put it out here.
This video is answering all my questions about the problems I have had with magic loop. Thank you so much.
So glad I could help clear up a few things! Now go have fun with it!
The few times YT made a good recommendation to me, this is definitely one of the time. You had covered some of my issues and provided solution and suggestions. Thank you for marking this!
I’m so glad I had a tip or two you use!
This is wonderful. We need more troubleshooting videos!! As a beginner, I find this immensely helpful.
I'm so glad I could help, Catherine!
Thank you so much!!! Very frustrated yesterday with each of the problems you addressed. I've tried magic loop several times over the years and have given up each time. But I'm giving it a go again because of a pattern I want to tackle. Now I think it might work out for me 🙂.
You're very welcome, Diane! Hope you're finding some success with this new challenge!
You seriously answered all my questions and difficulties with magic loop, you are incredible!
Nope... not incredible... I've just been right where you were! 😵
OMG! Light bulb moment! I looked at many videos on the magic loop and you made it click. THANK YOU!!!!!!!
I'm so glad, Karen! I love it when that light bulb pops on!
This video was FABULOUS!! Thank you thank you thank you for taking the time and effort to make such an awesome video! The last part of this trouble shoot tutorial was also where I have been getting frustrated with magic loop! You are amazing and keep it up my fellow knitter goddess!
Hahaha! What a great message to wake up to this morning! You are very welcome and I'm so glad you're rockin' the magic loop now! Have fun!
I love this! I am a speech pathologist and work with occupational therapists. I don't know why I didn't consider spatial relations first! This was incredibly helpful!
I’m so glad it helped! (Yeah... it took me a while to catch on to what now seems so obvious... a simple spatial relationship issue!)
You are so welcome!
Just letting you know that this is still helping people! Thanks!! My socks are now on track.
What a wonderful comment to wake up to this morning! I'm so glad to know I had some helpful info to share but even more glad to know you've lost some knitting frustrations! Enjoy those socks!
Thank you so much. I kept adding extra stitches because my working yarn was not in the middle of the needles. Problem sorted thanks to this video ❤
Thank you. You have made this make sense, I am a visual learner, have to be shown and explained on how it workes, you made this sink into my brain. Thank you.
WOW!!!! At last a tutorial that helped me sort out my magic loop problems!!! I’ve unpicked my first knit on magic loop scarf sooooo many times because of the ladder thing and because I couldn’t make our the needles and what I’d already done...I kept twisting it and trying to go back the way i came....I nearly gave up but thank you for a very helpful tutorial....I’m going to give it another go!!!👍
Oh, Jacqui... I remember that magic loop frustration. 😖 I'm so glad I could help! Now go have fun with it!
Thank you. I will!!
Thank you so much for your video it was sooo very helpful!! You are the only person that truly took the time to fully explain magic loop!!
Oh, Diane... I remember vividly how challenging magic loop was when I was first learning! I'm so glad I had some helpful information to share!!
What a great video. Yes, I also have spatial relationship problems. I also kept have trouble struggling with that ladder - kept redoing it. Now I get it. Thanks so much for your excellent, and humorous, explanation.
I'm so glad I had something helpful to share, Chelle!
THANK YOU, thank you, THANK YOU, Margaret! I'm new to knitting and really wanted to learn magic loop, but my first project had those ladders (I didn't even know what a ladder was). But your tips solved my problem, and now I really do like Magic Loop. THANK YOU so much.
You're so welcome, Karen! Glad I could help!
Vina
Yay, Vina!! Isn't it fun to master a new skill??!!
Wow this was so very helpful. Now I know where I was going wrong. Thank you a thousand times. You cleared up my confusion. And I also like the sites you referenced.
I'm so glad to hear it, Pamela! Frustration is no fun so now that it's all cleared up, go put your feet up and create!
Really liked this video - the right mix of theory and practical explanations. The point that confuses me in magic loop is when my first stitch is a purl.
gillian bc me too!
I'm so glad I could help! Agree... much easier than DPNs.
Thank you.
You're so welcome! And we are definitely not alone! I've loved reading the comments on this video as I see how common these problems really are!
So glad I could help, Suzie! I remember that frustration!
A fantastic video. I’ll practice it tomorrow because I’m getting tired to start with DPNs, which takes a lot longer. Thanks so much.
Thanks, Nilda! You're so smart to start a new technique when your mind is fresh. Have fun!
I've been struggling with magic loop for a while. Loved your video and I'll try your ideas on my next project. Thanks!
I hope they work for you, Gabriela! Keep me posted!
Very nice job on explaining magic loop. I never understood how anyone thought it was a better way to knit. I'm going to give it a try again.Mary
I'm not sure if it's a BETTER way! If you're comfortable with DPNs or 2 circulars, then that's all that matters!
Love it! It was so funny....I found myself nodding and agreeing with you during the video. You really cleared up my problems and helped me to understand the "concept". Now.........No Ladders! Hallelujah! I have struggled with it for years. Thank you so much for sharing your strategy with us. :-)
I'm so glad I could help, Charlene! Now go make something fun!
Glad it was helpful! It feels good when it finally "clicks," right?! 💡
I’m specially challenged too. This is terrific! Thank you. 😊
Dear Margaret, Denmark hier, new at magic loop - thank you so much. Merry Christmas.❣️
You are so welcome, Monique! Now go make something beautiful!
I'm so glad it helped! Sometimes it just takes somebody with a beginner point of view to figure out what stumps people!
I think I've got it now; just need more practice. My problem was that I wasn't thinking about this as just regular knitting using a different method! Thanks for your help. I'll be referring to your video often.
I know! I didn't realize that either! I remember how frustrated it was when I was first learning so I'm glad to know my little tips helped a bit!
After 23 times ripping my sock out trying to knit on circular needles, thinking it must be me,I found your tutorial. Thank you thank you thank you! 😘😘😘 one sock well on its way. Xx
Oh, I'm so glad!! I love that feeling of success! Great job, Caroline!
Thanks Margaret! You make it look so easy. Definitely going to try magic loop now!
+Victoria Murphy Keep me posted on your progress!
+Margaret Olander (Sheepishly Sharing) Will do. Starting with a Mug Hug. Simple!😀
