I'm delighted to see more people outside Asia starting to enjoy this great game. For us, this game is our childhood, just like Pokemon.
"And if you havn't played Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, why are you on this video".... The title is 10 tips before starting. ..wow
You can be on three star quests and still not experienced what the game has to offer 🤷♂️
knowing the switch, it would require you to close the entire game just to view a text based guide.
MillionShadesofDarkness
Imagine if the game somehow concluded videos/‘text-based guides’ into the total game time.
I’d be at 3,000 hours contrary to 610 hours.
First thing I said within 10 seconds

Classic Monster Hunter is incredibly difficult to get into without someone you know to guide you through. ProJared's Monster Hunter 3 introduction videos got me into the series, loved the series ever since.
Kinda surprised he didn't made a new guide for MH World and MH Generations Ultimate. Good thing Nintendo Life is here to aid new hunters.
it is still gen so easier than the others but way harder than world
Exact same experience here, bought 3U after seeing the awesome cinematic trailer, then watched ProJared's 3U videos and it has been my favourite video game series ever since.
Oof oof
Lmao big oof 😂
He was into a different kind of hunting mate
I'm horribly late, but a few tips I have for newer players are minor things, though some are pretty important online.
1) Placement is key! If you're using a blunt weapon (Hammer or Hunting Horn), always go for the monster's face if you can! Blunt weapons can knock the monster out and stun them, and it's very valuable for those extra hits! I believe Sword & Shield can also get KOs on the monster, but I'm not 100% sure on that. If you're using a cutting type weapon (Dual Blades or Long Sword for example), your priority is the tail if it can be cut. Cutting off the tail of a monster means more carves, which is a good thing! Tripping your teammates can also happen if everyone is attacking from the same spot at once, so try to spread out a little so you don't loose out on damage when a monster is knocked down! It's never fun to have your big attacks/combos invalidated because someone keeps hitting you out of it, so don't do it to others! If you're playing with a Hammer or Hunting Horn main, stay out of their way and let them get KOs! If you just got launched into the air by a teammate, keep smacking the attack button, you may still hit the monster in an aerial combo and potentially mount it!
2) Speaking of the tail, don't try to carve it while the monster is active in the same area! You're very likely to take huge damage while you attempt to carve, some monsters having at least two carves on the tail when cut. Wait until either the monster leaves the area or is dead/captured before carving!
3) You ever see the big mushroom-shaped ships in the sky? Use the Wave gesture while facing them, and they'll show you where the monster is currently located on your map! This can only be one once per hunt, but it's helpful and saves you a Psychoserum!
4) This goes without saying, but always upgrade your gear! High Rank and G Rank, maybe even late Low Rank, will punish you pretty badly if you're not getting better armor and weapons. The grind can be a pain, but it's very much worth it in the end!
5) Don't be a deserter! Whether you carted in a hunt, time is running out, or any number of factors, don't abandon your teammates! Everyone carts or fails a quest every now and then, there's no reason to cause your teammates to struggle needlessly by deserting them. And for those who experience desertions, don't give up right away if you still have teammates with you! There's always a chance of the hunt turning out to be a success! I personally continue to fight on despite desertions, regardless of failure or not. I wonder if deserters ever start feeling guilty when their teammates don't abandon the quest with them...
Tip for beginners -
If there’s something of interest in the area you are in, or if you want to get your palicos to come to your location, press the button that brings up your menu in game, and press x.
This sends a ping to where you are at.
Akshun Virk this is absolutely revolutionary, thank you! Will start using this online :D
@@FireMissionAlpha some more tips related to the pinging: use it to signal when you've found a monster online, also some pro players use it as a method to time coordinated attacks
Another piece of advice is to get the downloadable item packs! Very useful for new hunters to not have to worry about potions for a bit
Where do I find those?
It feels a little bit like cheating though.
@@LinkVsShadowNeo in the main menu look for "download"
@@decimategamer9184 oh well I feel dumb thanks!
@@nyoukki yeah it really is. I just got the game and thought it was a different thing. So when I was going through the menus downloading everything I could. And I didn't realise that I just maxed out every single thing. Worst part is I am a mh vet. And progression is the most fun part. So seeing a 2 page item box on my first play was incredibly disappointing.
I'd just like to point out that Prowler is a legitimate way to play the game and not just some side mode. It's more like a 15th weapon that you can main if you want.
zelatoth I know this comment is old as hell, and I don’t mean to burden you with yet another irrelevant TH-cam notification, but prowler is actually the most viable and efficient support class in the game. There is nothing wrong with maining prowler, but if you were to only bother with that class exclusively, then you aren’t having fun.
@@polpo8342 you cant tell someone when they arent having fun. Thats not for you to decide
Hermaeus Mora By all means, I meant no harm to Prowler mains in my comment: Prowler mains are great for support and dps, but what I meant in my last statement was that there are many weapons in the game that can turn Monster Hunter into a completely different experience, and to only use one exclusively doesn’t allow the player to experience the entire game. Monster Hunter is all about the monsters you hunt and the weapons you hunt them with, and I want people to expand upon just using one play style.
@@polpo8342 the same happens with people who only use one type of weapon, this thing is not prowler exclusive, there are a crap ton of people who use the valor long sword non stop.
MaxWell You have no idea how many times I see long sword players trying to attack the head of a monster and sweep me off of my feet with their stupid special attacks...
5:40 Devs should put guides in the Switch app. Have a digital brochure like what you used to get with physical copies.
Nokoda Here there is actually a guide of sorts on the start menu but as far as I can remember it just goes over the bare basics you need to start playing the game
I’m new to the series with World being my first entry point. So far I’m enjoying Generations Ultimate a lot more. I like that there’s no story, only because I felt the story in World wasn’t all that great and felt a bit contrived. I like that the graphics are simpler because I always got instant headaches playing World for unknown reasons. I also like the much larger array of armour available in Generations.
Lalena Dee I agree with you 1000%!
world is 100000000% better imo
@@kefkapalazzo1092 why?
I'd suggest you play MH4U, arguably the best monster Hunter game. Has a ton of monsters and the story is great. It's also not complicated as MHGU as the hunting arts don't exist in the game.
Kefka Palazzo for the more casual players yeah
I put three hours in and just learned about the tutorials from this video.
100 hours almost at g rank all Solo... I cant stahp
BRACHYDIOS IS MY FAVORITE MONSTER!!! I think the cover monster from your starting game is usually quite nostalgic tho. For me, it’s MH3U on Wii U.
Oh nice! I started with mh3u for 3ds
this is true! my favorite monster is Nargacuga, the cover monster of MHFU on psp my starting game as well! tho I also like Gore Magala
I don't even need tips but I still want to watch your Videos

If you will do some EGG Quest play as Palico for Unlimited stamina for Eggxcelent speed:)
And try to guard your teammates if they are holding the egg, at the very least don’t KNOCK IT OUT OF THEIR HANDS! Sorry I’ve had a lot of annoying moments doing those quests online...
Kiranico is the best of the on PC guides. It doesn't spoil too.
I like the fandom website to find key/important quests, but yeah, you're right
I finally bought this game and hope to understand it.
....Wait hold up a second...WE CAN TYPE DURING HUNTS AGAIN?!
Joeynator3000 nope, only in the lobby. You can customize some chat messages that display for actions in hunts though
Yeah I figured...oh well, I miss those days. lol
Joeynator3000 I feel ya. This is my first Monster Hunter since Tri though, so it’s a big upgrade overall for me lol
The game in general that is
lol, I've been playing all of them since Tri. xp
The new games are still great, I just miss some of the old stuff, lol
Hey Alex, whats your main weapon in GU?
I literally, just impulse bought this game before checking my subs to find this video. Having now watched this video, I am now looking forward to my first non-demo Monster Hunter experience even more. :P
How was it 4 years later
I've played 3 monster hunter games before this one , mh3u 4u and world, and I still don't know what the hell's going on.
is there any kind of visual aid for the crit distance thing, like does the line change colour or anything like that, please?
also what would be a good weapon to pick up first as a new comer? I played world a little bit and really liked the hammer. I know it was a noob weapon, but not only this, but I liked the playstyle and I was alright at smashing heads with it. I take it the hammer will be way-different in this game though, as I know "world" had a lot of more simplified mechanics.
Not new to monster hunter, but I enjoy Nintendolife and you can never know to much!
I want to give this game another try. I had it for the 3DS, but soon got rid of it because i felt it should be best enjoyed on a larger console. Now is my moment to get it. And also hopefully ill have a better idea of how to play the game after watching this.
Dunno if it's been mentioned. If your just gathering. Do it as a palica. No need to worry about nets and pickaxes
Nice little intro! I would suggest doing all the low rank quests, as they should be quite gentle and are geared toward teaching the basics
I think the 'swallow your pride' cannot be said enough, remember Mh4u and those secret areas?
Yeah, a lot of people didn't find out about them for ages, and then randomly came across them. After needing the items you can get from there for months. 😂
I’d use the internet if I knew what to look for. I really just want a guide that gives me an *idea* how to figure things out, such as elemental weaknesses or how injury and fatigue worl, but *without* just outright telling me how these things work.
I basically need to be pointed in the right direction, but still want to figure out the answers myself as much as I can. It’s just kinda hard to figure something out if you don’t even know what sort of things you’re supposed to be looking for.
I play this on my 3ds and i love it!!
Great video, Alex!
I've played MHG on the 3DS (Still playing it actually). But I want to play it on Switch soo bad just because I wanna see Pokke Village and Ancestral Steppe in HD
SW-2506-9335-5703
I just got to four star quests, I've been using the long sword with valor stance. This game is too addictive. Why isn't this channel more popular? Lol
+Nintendo life thanks for the nine tips of how to play Monster Hunter Generation the switch version I only play it for like 2 seconds but that's because I was downloading stuff and then claiming it and then save it but I will go back on it maybe today to do the transferring
#10 Forget all the things World spoiled you for.
Dive on in!
I was just searching TH-cam for a video like this. Thanks for the Upload. I was looking at videos from MH4U.
That pikachu drawing doe
my keyboard is wireless. I wonder if I plug in the wireless thing, it will also work on the switch? I should probs just buy a wired keyboard. my current desk doesn't support cables though. I'd have to get the drill out. TBH I just need a new desk though so I can fit on a 2nd monitor. must make shopping list.
any recommendations for desks that can fit 2 monitors, but also not massive? I'd like something compact, but also big, so probably something quite angular. never bought a desk before, so have no idea. ha ha.
If you want to play online is there anything extra you must do like in mhw when you shoot that gun.
Does anyone remember Monster Hunter G on PSP? so love that game...
That's the only one I've played and I loved it. Of course that was ages ago now. Plan on buying this one today. How's it compare?
Hey Alex, how much would it cost me for you to just kinda follow me around and narrate my life for me? I think that would be just too cool. Oh, and you'd be required to say "waffling" at least once a day, too. Hope you're ok with that.
Nintendo Life is the best! Thank you guys for the videos! Your channel has really inspired me to start my own channel. It’s been great so far so any support and help is greatly appreciated!
Mr.Amazing 10000 cool, I’ll check it out
So true, I subbed by the way
Yeah, I’ll look at it
Ur channel sucks
I’ll still sub tho
Alex everytime you say waffling I want some Waffles LOL!!!!
THAT PIKACHU IN THE BACKGROUND LOOKS ADORABLE!!!
And also, why are you doing a MH video without Arekkz? Before you make tutorial video you must Atleast have 500 hours in the game! I right now got around 735 hours in the game
As a gunner main.. That's one hell of a reasons why I'd prefer GenU than world.. The world has No critical distance needed + walking while reloading + walking while firing + faster hits + walking while healing = op af= easy game.. The ability to walk while healing is too damn op enough and with that, youre literally immortal with it, you wont cart lmao.. Yeah game looks awesome, but its too easy that it became boring af.. I play Monster Hunter to challenge and improve my skills, not to murder and rape monster with unbalanced mechanics... Because Monster hunter was meant for challenge.. It supposed to be challenging
Hack ._. Clunky trash gameplay with awful monster design and recolours doesn’t make MHGU any better. All monster hunter games minus MHW are garbage games. I’ll still play and enjoy them, but difficulty and awful controls and terrible gameplay doesn’t make a game good lmao. It’s PVE so who the fuck cares about OP shit. Gameplay and smoothness of it are what matters in games, and critical distance is shit.
@@MysticZefer By your logic, I bet Dark Souls sucks as well, right? SMH ... This is why veterans hate it when people call Monster Hunter a hack and slack game. Classic monster Hunter was all about strategically timing moves for maximum effect, while reading monster moves for the best opening to heal.
Was it more challenging? Hell yeah, but so what? It's this difficulty which has made monster hunter so loved by fans. MHW is great game by itself, but please don't go trashing MHGU just because you confuse sucking at it with harder mechanics.
the changes in world were just mainly QoL changes and I like them. They're good. Yes the game should be made a little harder and we need more content but QoL changes shouldn't be undone. Also World has critical distance it's just way more forgiving
@@MysticZefer the older games relyed on the players improving from experience the more times you took on each monster, like you would do if you were really to hunt a living animal. The idea that your weapons and armour only get you so far is what makes MH different from every other game that requires the player to do any grinding to get better - essentially it's training you to get better instead of relying on the best gear you can. It's quite possible to take on monsters with armour that has no defensive value other than to look fancy just by your skills as a player allowing some who like a perticular armour set to use it as long as they wish even if it's terrible against certain monsters. Basically a game where blaming the difficulty on it is moot when you can ajust it on the fly by how you choose to play.
Also, the solo game in G rank isn't as difficult as it is multiplayer as it scales the difficulty automatically as if 4 players are taking them on, even if there's only 2 players. MH has mostly been ok as a solo game, but the meat of it has always been the multiplayer. It wasn’t uncommon with the 3ds and psp versions to see players in Japan meet up in cafés just to play out a hunt or two... heck that's how myself, my husband and two friends play!
@@sergeigarcia186 Bit late here, I like both. But the op here is a moron. There is critical distance, and the gunner controls are pretty awful in gen u. The arts and internal ammo are nice though.
One thing I wanna clarify on the dark souls comparison. Difficulty is always nice, but toning it down from qol changes isn't a bad thing. Having a game be difficult with poorly explained mechanics and clunky controls is why lots of people didn't play it before world. And I wouldn't really call it a good challenge, but a tedious one.
Now I do agree world is lacking in difficulty but hopefully the dlc will fix that, and subsequent games will build upon that. But those qol changes were badly needed.
PSA: Dragonite ore can be found from ore deposits in the volcano, which can be accessed about midway through the low rank quests. Bring cool drinks! 😉
Or empty your item pouch and use a prowler, Infinite pickaxes, infinite bugnets, no hot or cold drinks needed, makes those gathering sessions more bearable.
Cody Hausner it’s easier to just make an item set and swap to it. changing to Palico mode takes too long
Also... please quit hating on prowler mains... I promise we aren’t all herb horn spammers that expect to be carried. Many of us have learned to optimize our boomerangs, attacks, and dodges. And in ultimate beast mode can be used to get some great dps. Please don’t let the noobs using it as an easy mode taint your opinion of the actual mains.
uhh Ultimate will be my first MH game , I'm scared now lmao
I didn't want to, but OKAY FINE I will do all researchs and watch all tips before starting the game xD
Monster Hunter definitely has an entry barrier, but I do think it's phrased a little hyperbolically. You'll learn much as you go if you pay a little attention. Experiment with the weapons, figure out which you like the feel of, get yourself some tips on how to use that weapon and you'll be well on your way, I think. Beyond that, a lot of players also really enjoy teaching others, so if you stumble upon any questions, it's probably not that hard to find someone willing to give you a hand.
Either way, good luck and happy hunting.
thanks for the advise! I checked some tips and I think It will be fine! I will also do the tutorial. Plus , I have friends that play the game, I will ask them if I'm stuck ~
And thank you, I cant wait to hunt! I received my copy Day 1 , but I want to finish an another game first .. uhh
I bought this a month ago... and i still haven't played it after getting frustrated after 1 hour of being confused 🙃 if i pick it up eventually, I'd probably go prowler mode
just watch gaijin hunter's videos
In my opinion mhgu takes longer to start off in than MHW (and no that is not a problem) i enjoy that it takes a bit longer so i can get ready but for it also took a bit too long i wanted to fight rathalos not velocidrome (yes for me the drome's are too boring)
So, I can play as a cat, huh.
This was beyond helpful.

One of my friends says I shouldn't get this since I'm a solo player on Switch, he says its too hard to solo run a Monster Hunter game. Idk what to do because I saw this game on sale and I'm interested in getting it.

@@notimeforcreativenamesjust3034 i played it for about 2 days and regretted the purchase. Bunch of stupid fetch quests, and no matter how hard i tried, in the tutorial i could not for the life of me mount the back of a monster to stab it to death.

@@koryandrews1665 also for mounting you can do look up gaijin hunter as he has a slew of videos for beginners trying to play genU
Quite a lot of players just use Skype or discord for vc while hunting.
that's useful if you're doing organized groups, but i think that was a bit more for people playing in rooms with random people
MHGU > MHW in terms of contents
"Quality over quantity"
I can't believe how many people said that without even playing the game. Although the monster roaster is wide, Capcom made sure to give something very unique to every monster. I finished story mode in World after 40 hours, and most of the monsters feel kinda repetitive: Radobaan is just an Uragaan rip off, Legiana is literally Ice Rathalos, etc... In GU we have a Dinosaur that uses his tail as a Great Sword, an Elder Dragon with Jet Engine, a 2 headed Dragon which turned out to be a squid (spoiler alert: Nakarkos), hence even a Psycho mantis riding a giant fucking mech (Altah-Ka), and even more!
I literally spent 200 hours on the game just to get to the final (G rank) boss, and after that there are still a bunch of stuffs that will unlock at higher HR, a lot of Deviant monsters, and even DLC quests.
I would say this game beats World in both Quality and Quantity.
The mh community is just so great dinding out any yet so slight detail about the games.
Ok question: Which MH game should I get: Generations Ultimate or World?
Wanna start off easy? World
Wanna go HARD? GU
World it is then!

Have you tried turning off the auto sleep mode? Sometimes when it's downloading when on normally and sleep mode kicks in it stops the download (as it does happen). If it's a problem try downloading when it's already in sleep mode as that seems to get intterupted less.

The only way i got introduced to mh i had to use my bog brain
Is this the same as the 3ds version?
improved and has new stuff as well. it's the same base game though.
Is this game a Physical Full-Cart release?
No one that reviews Nintenport Switch games ever includes whether the game is a physical release, and what type of physical release it is.
MH has usually had a full release, both retail and eshop (though physical copies are harder to get after launch i find) and as always, any additional content is free to download into the game at no extra charge. It's one of the few games that have this, because if you're playing with friends you don't want to loose a friend who can't play due to being unable to afford an extra quest.
It's both, I got the physical copy

So apparently the demo for this game is really bad, but the actual game is good? Can anyone offer me some opinions on this?
I know this is old but just in case this would help out anybody at all: having played a few of these, the demos are not that great because they seem more geared towards people that already play the games. There's no tutorial and the quests in the demo are balanced for multiplayer and generally the monsters have inflated HP totals (this was the case for the betas for world and Iceborne too). You will probably enjoy the demo a lot more alongside someone that knows what they are doing already. The actual game eases you into the experience a whole lot more gradually.
That said, they always let you try out every single weapon (and in GU, every single hunting style which can drastically alter how the weapon plays) so you can mess around with everything. My best advice for dealing with any of these demos is to just use them to get a feel for the controls and figure out what weapon you think looks cool. If you find something you like check out a tutorial video on that weapon and try and see if you can kill something with it, but don't be discouraged if you time out on the demo quests as they give you way less time than normal to defeat a monster with more hp than normal.
@@yoso378 thanks for your reply :) I ended up just getting the game because it was at a good enough price that I figured it didn't matter. I am still yet to play, but I am really excited to start
