Girlthing were a good girlband. I still have their CD after all these years. This song deserved more credit than it got, and these girls were not given a fair chance by their record manager. It's sad a talented girlband went to waste.
I don’t think they could last. They had too much drama going on. The girls were separated into two sides, Linzi and Anika on one side, and Nikki and Michelle on the other side.
Actually, its not the management. The girls were fighting and did not go well with each other. There was a reunion before, it was about them being banned from having boyfriends, the that one member secretly dated their manager or something and the members knew and they fought. They broke up and the rest was history.
All the girl bands from 1999-2005 have like all gone to solo artist like miss teeq, sugababes, spice girls, girls aloud they were all amazing they would still have succcsess if they comeback miss the old girlbands
Great finding this again. They were a feisty girl group and a lot of fun. This was a terrific song. But there were two stings that they suffered. Sting number one was their next song was going to be "Pure and Simple" which Cowell took off them after they had recorded it and gave it to Pop Stars' winners, Hear'Say, who went on to have a number one with it. Girl thing were then dropped by Cowell. Sting number two is the shortage of success of this song, which was unfortunate, reaching only number 25 in the UK chart. The song's music is an amalgum of several hits from the 1970s and 1980s including the Crown Heights Affair's "You Gave Me Love" for the bassline, Blondie's "Rapture" for the cowbell, McFadden & Whitehead's "Ain't No Stopping Us Now" for more bassline, and Michael Zager Band's "Let's All Chant" from 1977 for the "Ooh Ooh" bits and there were several others I used to remember but have now forgotten. The problem was, and usually is, for nearly any artist or group that does a harp-back to the 1970s/80s disco era, it is usually a career-ending move. The only one to suvive this fate was Kylie Minogue.
So this was the song before they broke up... This is so sad. I absolutely love this song! Plus when Linzi came on X Factor this year it was so sad because she came to start her career over and she didn't go through. I feel sorry for this band.
such a classic song. it did so bad here in Australia - I think it reached in the 40s but should have been up the top of the charts. I mean if B*Witched Rollercoaster could get to number 1 then this should have too. Lots of good songs like I'm like a Bird, Don't Stop Movin', S Club Party and Shackles Praise You got to number 2 in Australia but not number one, it's shocking
B*Witched was more organic in terms of style and personality, they didn’t come across as fake, didn’t imitate anyone, They had their Irish sound, and the double denim look, meanwhile Girl Thing was trying too hard to be the Spice Girls- copied their looks, copied their music videos, and they didn’t gel like a girl gang vibe… they filmed a segment of them living in a house together but it was very cringey, and forced..
They're doing The Big Reunion this year...please support those girls ...I don't know all of them well but the one I know best is Jodi Albert -cuz she's married to a member of my favourite pop band -Kian Egan from Westlife
True and she still is and is married to Kian from Westlife. Her name is Jodi Albert by the way, I remember her in that band, the one with the long brown dark hair,
we sang there's somebody coming during out grad in 6th grade.. I don't know if my classmates still remember. can I ask you guys a favor? send me the song. Using the cassette tape we learn the song by pausing, rewinding and thoroughly listening. and, we just borrowed it. and, years have passed. please, I am a bit sentimental..
As a 10 year old this seemed to be the best thing ever, like many other pop acts at the time, Steps, S Club 7 and S Club Juniors etc, looking back it was so bad, it was tripe and I wonder if all the 20 somethings who were kids at the time would buy this now. You can see now how much of this was manufactured, but if I had kids I'd rather they listen to this cheesy happy-go-lucky 90s/00s pop compared to the Miley/Nicki's of today.
They actually had a third single called Young, Free and Happy, and a music video was made for it, I remember watching it on TV. Where can I see it again?
@@stephaniespragg5586 so off. The Spice Girls were managed by Simon Fuller, Girl Thing by Simon Cowell. None if these guys wrote songs. This song in particular was produced and written by Absolute, who also wrote a lot of Spice classics.
Joseph Usher Yeah but she got alot of shit for it...when she came back on the reunion because she had been living the life and the other girls were still on a council estate.
@@genie121 only Linzi was and still living in a council estate and living an impoverished life currently works as a carer and times are constantly tough for her, I'm not if this true or not, she often begs her neighbors for left over and that's what she would eat since her income is very meager for daughters' basic needs. On the other hand, Annika is now back in her native Netherlands and works in marketing, Nikki is now a fitness instructor base in California and Nicola is a stay at home mum.
I hope they bring back Linzi as the wild card. Simon should have given her a chance just like Loui and Mel did, he didn't even give her the benefit of a doubt he could have still had the choice of sending her home if at the live arena auditions after all that time to better herself she still hadn't upped her game. As usual typical Simon only interested in nothing other than ensuring his category wins this years x factor that's all he cares about!.
Her audition wasn't good. It wouldn't be fair to send her through. It wasn't because he wants to win with his group. Its because its worse to send her home in front of thousands of people. Sending her home now was best for everyone.
I'm guessing this was their first single because it's actually quite a good song and can become catchy, their second song though.... I can definitely understand why it flopped it was such a different sound, there was a lot of rapping and it was so different compared to this one. for a girl group just starting out you kind of don't wanna change your sound until you're established. for any artist actually. If they had stuck to this type of sound for their second single it would've done just as great as this one and they maybe could've been up there with girls aloud or even the spice goals. big shame.
Actually, this appears to be the second single after which they cancelled the group. This song is way better than the first one, and I would even go that far to say that this song was a bit of ahead of its time.
@@ohohstarryeyed yeah it's their first song and the other song, the rap one which you refer to did much better. Lots of artists do release their best song second to avoid being a one hit wonder but it didn't work for these girls.
Definitely had an S Club 7 sounding about it, that could be one reason why they flopped as a band because S Club 7 were huge back then and many bands tried to imitate their sound but with no success.
Trumpet line pinched directly from Temptations 'Papa Was A Rolling Stone' and other parts of the song sounded like 'Let's All Chant'. Legal case on the way against Simon Cowell?
The song is not bad but it would be much better if each girl has their own parts, now no one has any personality. Especially when it was just their second single, they needed to build up their own characters
It’s giving heavy ‘who do you think you are’ video n sound vibes.
This is a great song. Their first one, Last One Standing, is such a feel-good tune one of my favourites from the Noughties.
Still a classic....still listening in 2023!
