I agree that he should have a little more respect for what got him to this place but the truth is a lot of the hip hop community treated him like shit And Posts music whether it’s Hip hop or country in the end of the day it’s really pop adjacent Post Malone will always be a pop star and there’s nothing wrong with that. It seems like he can jump into almost any genre and bring his Posty pop sensibilities to make it his own I personally liked his earlier more hip hop/pop stuff more but I fully support him switching genres and doing something he’s more passionate towards
Post Malone is a fan of music in general, he does like hip/hop but he is not of it culturally. That is where the problem lies because hip/hop is a very gatekeepy genre like punk rock. The problem is you can't gatekeep hip/hop anymore like you could in the old days for two reasons. 1. The more mainstream a genre is the harder it is to gatekeep. 2. The internet and social media has nearly wiped gatekeeping out. Even super underground genres are struggling to gatekeep in the social media age. For example, extreme Norwegian black metal, which has a lot of inherit musical qualities made to be very difficult to listen too on purpose because the early bands did not want normies to be listening to their music, has been completely overrun by hipsters.
" Because his demographic isn't looking specifically for Post Malone's music, Post Malone was just who they needed at that moment in their lives" As an 18 year old in '19, who really had Hollywood's Bleeding on rotation that year but never got into his music again post 2020, I couldn't agree more. His music was a phase but the artists that I like truly, I'd care about their music till the day they would make music.
Its fine that Post malone wanted to do other genres but it wasn't cool that he had to bash the genre that made him famous in the first place (hip hop) edit: EXACTLY
Post Malone is a guy who is kind of good at everything, but not excellent at any one particular thing. Because he doesn't really excel at one particular thing he will never be known as a great artist, but his versatility is a huge plus for him because that's what makes him a lot of money. He will always be able to seamlessly transition from one style of music to the next, which will keep him relevant for a long time.
If country music was the music he wanted to make then he should've made that FROM THE START! Don't use hip hop to launch your fkn country music career. FOH!!
@@streamsofarrogance4167 At the start of his career he wanted to make Hip-Hop, then Alternative Rock and now Country. People can enjoy a variety of different genres, stop limiting artists to 1 genre !
@@streamsofarrogance4167 but taylor swift did the same thing switching from country to pop, and if Drake can release a hip hop song one day and a pop song the next then why can't Post Malone do the same as them?
This video highlighted something I’ve noticed for a while now, the dearth of new male pop stars in the 2020s in general - there’s a distinct lack of star power when you compare it to Sabrina, Billie, Olivia, Chappell Roan, Tate McRae etc. Tommy Richman, Shaboozey and Benson Boone had songs blow up this year but do they have staying power? Idk…Zac, Tyler, Noah, and Morgan on the other hand, due to this trend shift, will have the wind beneath their wings 🪽 all the energy is in Country right now.
Do people not realize it’s actually the opposite. He’s culture vulturing country. Country is what is in. He made other music for YEARS and now is in country. It’s literally the opposite. He was a rapper/ pop artist turned country realizing the trends not the other way around
@@kidxvintage no you stated it in your video. He’s a pop artist. Hip hop was pop when he blew up. Now he’s entered country just like multiple other “rap” artists. That’s why the idea of a culture vulture is so stupid. Only in rap is that term coined when it happens in every genre
@@Ckproduction03 nah he used the SoundCloud eras popularity to propel his career then wanted nothing to do with rap & even kind of disrespected the genre. I personally believe post always wanted to be a country singer even said it himself. country wasn’t popping at the time he was getting into music so he got a grill & cornrows then called himself white Iverson 😂 If not for rap there is no Post Malone.
Yeah but he used it to breakout as a new artist. His crossover into country is MUCH different than the other rap artists. He is walking around like a full on country artist now ahaha
It’s not being a culture vulture when his music since day one has had country undertones (Broken Whiskey Glass, feeling Whitney). Hip hop and country are more similar than some like to acknowledge.
You can make whatever music you want, but don’t discredit the genre that got you famous. There’s people in the Hip-Hop genre that take music more seriously than Post ever would and to hear him say things like “if you’re looking to cry don’t listen to hiphop” is just ridiculous.
Eh, Miley Cyrus used hip hop and disrespected it. Post didn’t. Well sort of. He has always said he’s just an artist. He’s from Texas. He’s influenced by many styles. I can see the culture vulture argument being valid with Post in some instances in his career, however, I think he really does care about his music and craft. He’s also about his bag. He wanted to make music of many genres when he entered the game, but was going to do so at the right time.
@@krissybee2484 people ripped Miley for that especially when she did that cringe 23 song with Wiz Khalifa and Juicy J. At the end of the day, Post is a very likable person and that’s why people are letting this slide and don’t care as much.

While he still is a very talented artist, I just dont how I feel bout this change to country. Kinda sucks, nut it is what it is
Great video, you speak very well and the editing is crazy. Regarding Post, I love the guy. Country is not for me neither, I mean is only for us white people. I think he struggled because hip hop is too serious with the ‘real’ thing what leads to create the idea that someone can choose if x or y artist belong to a genre. But genre is just a tag for us listeners to understand how to listen more of what we like. I believe artists just create, they find their way. When I hear talks about the ‘genre’ feels like talking about a sport and not art.
I thought I was an r&b head in the mid 00’s until I realised I was just a pop head and that R&B was the sound of pop music in mid 00s, just like Dance/Electronica was the sound of Pop of in the early 10’s, and hiphop/trap became the sound of pop music in the later 10’s. The best Pop artists are the shapeshifting chameleons. Madonna, Michael Jackson & Rihanna were all experts at this and so is Post Malone, your teams spots the trends and tells the public where Pop is now and where it’s going. Pop is always a mirror reflecting the zeitgeist and sonic trends of the time - that’s why it’s amorphous.🪞
Shit ! Artist can do anything they wants. Post malone is one of the most unique and versatile artist. Put some respect on his name . He can do most of the genre and make it to the top. The one and only posty... Pop - CIRCLES, I LIKE YOU Hip hop - 92 EXPLORER, BIG LIE Rock - IT'S A RAID, BURNING MAN Country - POUR ME A DRINK, I HAD SOME HELP R&b - COOPED UP not like other artist, he proved himself he is one the versatile artist and can do most of the genre. In the case of Post Malone and every artist THEY ARE ARTIST at the end of the day the only thing people can want to expect from music artists is appreciation for fans, other than that Artist should be able to make and produce whatever they want, if the Genuine fans don't like then give constructive criticism not freaking Mob attacking online

It kinda makes sense to me either way if he wants to make money first then he use that money to support him to make other music that he loves. I don’t see any problem with that because he’s making the music that he likes I think because I really enjoy his music now but not the old Post Malone.

Twelve carat toothache is a great album, and Austin was great as well! Bro can just do any genre and bro sold 130k for Austin when a Travis Scott album that had been hyped up for 5 years dropped lmao
@@kidxvintage Yes! But He has been releasing music before. He hasn’t blew up internationally up until 2022 with his hit “Una noche en medillin”. He is Chilean by the way and has up around 44M monthly listeners on Spotify which (in my book) is enough to be considered a superstar!
Messy but he’s relevant and he’s selling tickets. He knows hip hop is dead. He’s smart. 99% of those rappers from the sound clout era are either broke, irrelevant or dead.
Idk man . I think you make a lot good points especially earlier in his career and moving forward into the fall off period . But looking at sheer streaming numbers and revenue generation , Austin , twelve carrot tooth ache , and that one song with The Weeknd all did pretty fkn decent . Yeah less world dominating than rockstar and what not , but still far more successful than 99% of what most musicians will ever see . Also unlike Beyoncé and MGK and and Bruno etc , post’s transition to country seems extremely authentic . Obviously he had good incentive on a business front and he capitalized . But compared to these other pop artist country albums , F 1 trillion is Forreal a country album . And I’m a huge country fan . Co signs with amazing country artists , influences of pop country , southern rock , red dirt , blue grass , Appalachian folk , 50’s country standards adjacent , you name it , f 1 trillion has it . I think is a bit derived to merely mark him as a pop artist cog in the industry machine in this setting . It’s fucking authentic . And if he gave us a potentially more profitable / watered down version of himself previously , so be it . This new shit obviously is making him happy . Business and artistry are not mutually exclusive .
I think if you are an asset to a label and you yourself are a pop star, the drop from 500k first week on your last two albums (B&B, HB) to 100k (12, A) is a substantial decline and gets you, your team and the label a little nervous
bro is gunning at posty for changing his genres and trying something new, okay he didn’t follow the trends, but his albums post hollywood’s bleeding still do quite well, his albums are still post malone unique, you can have your opinions but i don’t think ur a fan for saying he used hip hop. he always said he liked rap and hip hop so he never ‘USED’ it he always said he will go to country. have your opinions but this is wild. i love all of his music. he is such a unique artist.

Post is incredibly versatile when it comes to music and it’s clear that he was never going to stay put in one spot for too long. If he wants to switch, that’s totally fine. But it’s the way he switches that can sometimes raise questions because his efforts don’t always feel super authentic. It’s like you said, he moves where the people need him at. It just so happened to be that where they needed him was in the genre he wanted all along. And I found it interesting that I’ve seen a lot of the people who defend Post against the culture vulture accusations say “why can’t he grow up and explore other genres.” Why does growing up and maturing mean abandoning a genre? It’s like they see hip hop and rap as phases you go through and when you mature as an adult you find more refined music to listen to. Music that isn’t hip hop. There are plenty of rappers out there who still offer deep music with lots of lyricism. Tbh I don’t think people would have as much of an issue with him switching if his actions came off as more authentic. When Mac Miller did a jazz album, people didn’t go up in arms because every step along the way Mac made it known that he was appreciative of all that rapping and hip hop gave him. The same can’t really be said for Post.
Doing to well known trick of a lot of white rappers….. transition to country. Is soulless and a money grab but people can listen to any music they want.
it dont matter he making the music he wanted to make now, the shit he said about hip hop when he was literally profiting from it sound tone-deaf. why are you involving yourself in the music and profiting off the genre then turn around and say hip hop ain't music. sound like he's telling the masses "listen to ME, but don't listen to other hip hop cause it ain't real.

@@thepreseason matty healy is lucky he doesn’t have the same eyes on him that post malone does 😭
I agree that he should have a little more respect for what got him to this place but the truth is a lot of the hip hop community treated him like shit
And Posts music whether it’s Hip hop or country in the end of the day it’s really pop adjacent
Post Malone will always be a pop star and there’s nothing wrong with that. It seems like he can jump into almost any genre and bring his Posty pop sensibilities to make it his own
I personally liked his earlier more hip hop/pop stuff more but I fully support him switching genres and doing something he’s more passionate towards
You think? Like artist wise or just the press?
Post Malone is a fan of music in general, he does like hip/hop but he is not of it culturally. That is where the problem lies because hip/hop is a very gatekeepy genre like punk rock. The problem is you can't gatekeep hip/hop anymore like you could in the old days for two reasons. 1. The more mainstream a genre is the harder it is to gatekeep. 2. The internet and social media has nearly wiped gatekeeping out. Even super underground genres are struggling to gatekeep in the social media age. For example, extreme Norwegian black metal, which has a lot of inherit musical qualities made to be very difficult to listen too on purpose because the early bands did not want normies to be listening to their music, has been completely overrun by hipsters.
i still think you need to show some respect to the genre tho
" Because his demographic isn't looking specifically for Post Malone's music, Post Malone was just who they needed at that moment in their lives" As an 18 year old in '19, who really had Hollywood's Bleeding on rotation that year but never got into his music again post 2020, I couldn't agree more. His music was a phase but the artists that I like truly, I'd care about their music till the day they would make music.
yup yup yup
great video
thank you!! more on the way so sub!!
Its fine that Post malone wanted to do other genres but it wasn't cool that he had to bash the genre that made him famous in the first place (hip hop)
edit: EXACTLY
absolutely
Post Malone is a guy who is kind of good at everything, but not excellent at any one particular thing. Because he doesn't really excel at one particular thing he will never be known as a great artist, but his versatility is a huge plus for him because that's what makes him a lot of money. He will always be able to seamlessly transition from one style of music to the next, which will keep him relevant for a long time.
Jack of all trades, master of none
Another banger video would love to see one about Olivia Rodrigo in the future keep up the good work.
Thank you! Big O-Rod fan so that would be a lot of fun
It’s one thing to just make a different genre of music but he changed completely how he dress and everything
and like of course style evolves but the way he moves and has spoke on hip hop has never helped his case
Love these videos, thanks for the breakdown!!

I don’t see how people can hate on someone for making the music they wanna make.

If country music was the music he wanted to make then he should've made that FROM THE START! Don't use hip hop to launch your fkn country music career. FOH!!

i like your style of videos and i feel like learned a lot about post malone in this video!
appreciate it! thank you!
Idk…Zac, Tyler, Noah, and Morgan on the other hand, due to this trend shift, will have the wind beneath their wings 🪽 all the energy is in Country right now.
yeah we shall see how it all goes!
Austin isnt even a flop, it was such a banger album
*commercial flop for post malones standards
Just poured myself a drank and lit up a cigarette in my apartment for this new vid! POSTY, YOU DID THIS!
CIGS INSIDE! CIGS INSIDE!
Do people not realize it’s actually the opposite. He’s culture vulturing country. Country is what is in. He made other music for YEARS and now is in country.
It’s literally the opposite. He was a rapper/ pop artist turned country realizing the trends not the other way around
you dont think its weird how directly after his breakout hip hop single he kept trying to make it known how he was gonna abandon the genre eventually?
@@kidxvintage no you stated it in your video. He’s a pop artist. Hip hop was pop when he blew up.
Now he’s entered country just like multiple other “rap” artists.
That’s why the idea of a culture vulture is so stupid. Only in rap is that term coined when it happens in every genre
@@Ckproduction03 nah he used the SoundCloud eras popularity to propel his career then wanted nothing to do with rap & even kind of disrespected the genre. I personally believe post always wanted to be a country singer even said it himself. country wasn’t popping at the time he was getting into music so he got a grill & cornrows then called himself white Iverson 😂
If not for rap there is no Post Malone.
Yeah but he used it to breakout as a new artist. His crossover into country is MUCH different than the other rap artists. He is walking around like a full on country artist now ahaha
As a fan of traditional country and a hater of bro country, I did not like this album. It's bro country through and through.
100% its like he threw Bro Country into an AI generator for some of these songs ahaha
One right now did not flop lol it’s his 15th most streamed song
Streaming farms are very real lol ask anyone you know to sing you that song
It’s not being a culture vulture when his music since day one has had country undertones (Broken Whiskey Glass, feeling Whitney). Hip hop and country are more similar than some like to acknowledge.
yeah but he definitely used the genre to propel himself
god forbid a guy just make the music he likes and lets him explore any genre he desires lmao
good video though, made some good points I agreed with ngl
He can make whatever music he wants. Just don't have him coming back to rap when it comes back to style.
You can make whatever music you want, but don’t discredit the genre that got you famous. There’s people in the Hip-Hop genre that take music more seriously than Post ever would and to hear him say things like “if you’re looking to cry don’t listen to hiphop” is just ridiculous.
glad you still could enjoy it even tho we disagree on some points! 🤝

its great! but it made no impact
Perfectly said at the end. Its like he waited for the perfected moment to finally go country ahaha
@@krissybee2484 people ripped Miley for that especially when she did that cringe 23 song with Wiz Khalifa and Juicy J.
At the end of the day, Post is a very likable person and that’s why people are letting this slide and don’t care as much.
I don't know but i like the floo era of post Malone, i feel like beerbongs and Bentleys and Hollywood Bleeding sound to alike.
But Austin and Twelve Carat Toothache are like my best post albums.
I really liked Twelve Carat, Austin grew on me. Sign Me Up off Austin is one of my favorite songs by him
I used to love post malone and theres nothing wrong with changing sounds or whatever. His country to me is very generic compared to hid hip hop stuff.
I just wish he didnt use hiphop as a crutch to fame so now he can do whatever he wants. Glad people still enjoy his new stuff its just not for me.
same
I wouldn't call this a messy rebrand! Any & everything this man touches turns to gold & is complete fire 🔥.
Talk to Twelve Carat Toothache & Austin ahaha
Post has been my fav artist of all time, I think Hollywoods Bleeding is my fav album of all time (although starting to get a bit iffy) But I havent enjoyed these past 2 albums hes come out, while theres songs I enjoy from them, they havent hit the same as B@B and Hollywoods Bleeding. While he still is a very talented artist, I just dont how I feel bout this change to country. Kinda sucks, nut it is what it is
B&B and HB have some BANGERS on them
Great video, you speak very well and the editing is crazy.
Thank you! My whole thing is make the music you want but just treat the cultures and genres with respect
Pop is always a mirror reflecting the zeitgeist and sonic trends of the time - that’s why it’s amorphous.🪞
very interesting stuff
Another one!!! He’s back!!! Lets go!🎉

Hip hop - 92 EXPLORER, BIG LIE
Rock - IT'S A RAID, BURNING MAN
Country - POUR ME A DRINK, I HAD SOME HELP
R&b - COOPED UP

With country being my least favorite genre, I am so tired of music lately.
I love underground or obscure artists, but I also don’t want to have to spend hours just to find music.
For me, I’m not a country fan either but I have found a few artists in the genre that I’ve become a big fan of. Kacey Musgraves rocks
Post is a multi talented artist. He’s made music in multiple genres from HipHop, pop, Rock, and now Country. He’s never been a one trick pony.
I like that he is versatile but to feel the way he did about the genre that gave him a career was always disappointing to me

BEEN WAITING FOR DISSSS

In the case of Post Malone and every artist
THEY ARE ARTIST at the end of the day the only thing people can want to expect from music artists is appreciation for fans, other than that Artist should be able to make and produce whatever they want, if the Genuine fans don't like then give constructive criticism not freaking Mob attacking online
you dont think the artist should at least have an appreciation and respect from the culture he is a guest of?
@@kidxvintage Not at all I'm just saying that I'm hearing from multiple different sites people dissing on post for switching genres or doing this or not that, at the end of the day it's post's choice of where he wants to go with his music, and if it doesn't work out he'll be the first to know
That's all
When it comes to culture yes always pay due homage to what affected and molded your craft but don't be afraid to experiment, people also hate it when artists go stagnant for years.

Sometimes he does rap music, sometimes pop, sometimes rock & now country. 💯❗️He has never been a "rapper" (hes always been a multi talented versatile artist)
its more that he disrespected the genre of hip hop, which is the reason why we even know who he is in the first place.

postys just a talented guy that makes whatever he wants tbh austin was a really underrated album, goodbyes is the best pop song ever made
Austin grew on me. Sign Me Up is fire
@@kidxvintageI can see that perspective for sure .

You nailed it.
Your Right And taylor swift music is actually trash...
