    Another great review
I think NCAP have totally confused everyone by constantly changing the system. In the past it was too easy to get 5 stars, now its con the other way by implying that cars are unsafe, that are safe.
The star ratings are too reliant on the "Nanny" driver aids, when really there should be more responsibility from the driver

    • @AutoSocialUK
      @AutoSocialUK  ปีที่แล้ว +5

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head there Richard. Cars have to be pretty much autonomous nowadays to get their 5 starts and then that poses other issues!

I had a test drive in a hybrid Jogger a few weeks ago. Automatic gearbox. It surprised me by being a genuinely good car. Nothing fancy but all of the things you need and nothing that you don't, as Dacia's CEO once said. I ended up buying a petrol Duster instead which was more suited to my country lifestyle but again I'm very happy with it. I've had Audis for 23 years before the Dacia, but the gap isn't as big as you might expect especially with the Dacia being half the price.

I bought a 1 litre Jogger three months ago to replace a BMW 225XE plug in hybrid. What can I say? Well it was literally half the price; it unsurprisingly doesn't go so fast (but is much better than I thought it would be, particularly when you get used to the boost curve) and has been doing an astonishing 50mpg overall with 60mpg on a run. With the BMW, we had to dismantle my wife's wheelchair to get it in the boot, but with the Jogger we just fold up the rearmost seats (which the BMW doesn't have) and we can fit her wheelchair in whole, plus her rollator, plus some shopping, all with ease. With all seats folded or removed I have been able to buy interior doors for the house and bring them home myself, so no delivery charges, and when we take the grandchildren out we just put the seats back in and they can all come. In terms of handling, it's not so good as the BMW (which in turn wasn't so good as my previous Ford C-Max), but it's perfectly acceptable for its intended usage, certainly way better than a Renault Scenic I had twenty years ago. Quality wise it's no BMW, but this seems to be mainly in cosmetic areas such as trim, and it's certainly acceptable for the price and the vehicle's likely usage; panel fit is good and there are no rattles or squeaks. Ours is the top Extreme model and it has just about every feature I want, and many I'm not bothered about; for example I would prefer to dump the aluminium wheels for steel ones - yes I know I'm swimming against the tide, but steel is cheaper, stronger, less easily damaged, more easily repaired, and actually lighter than most so called 'alloys'. Steel is an alloy too by the way. Omissions include the clever storage you mentioned such as the underfloor compartments the Scenic had, and it should have an actual spare wheel, like nearly all cars now; the can of 'squirt' you get is only of use for the nail in the tread type puncture so a sidewall failure leaves you unnecessarily calling the breakdown services. Abandoned cars with shredded tyres are a common sight nowadays and this should be seen as a safety issue. Personally, I don't give a monkey's about the lack of lane warnings or that I don't get a warning buzzer if the rear seat belts aren't done up. I'm an adult and am perfectly capable of dealing with these things myself. I understand that the car would be rated as four star on the actual impact tests themselves but I can't find a definitive source to verify this, so if anyone knows about this I'd be interested to hear. Overall, the car is brilliant, comfortable on a long journey and superb value. Who cares if its 0 - 60 isn't setting the world on fire, or it doesn't handle like a sports car - If I want that, I'll just drive my Caterham 7 instead.

This is the euro ncap grading document. It shows (table 2.3b, page 4) that a 70% adult occupancy rating is 4 stars.
      cdn.euroncap.com/media/58030/euro-ncap-assessment-protocol-overall-rating-v90.pdf
This is the jogger’s test result confirming the 70% adult occupancy rating (page 4).
      cdn.euroncap.com/media/68913/euroncap-2021-dacia-jogger-datasheet.pdf
The 1 star rating is due to a score of 39% in ‘safety assist’. Bizarrely euroncap now cap the star rating at that of the lowest category score “Vehicles that show a poor performance in one of the boxes will have their star rating restricted to show that they do not provide good all-round protection.”
So if you see a car with a 3* ncap rating that could potentially have lower adult occupancy in a crash than the jogger, but achieve the higher rating by having a seatbelt warning for all seats and active lane keeping assist.
The jogger dropped down to 1* vs the Sandero stepway 2* rating because the jogger doesn’t have a seatbelt warning alarm for the rearmost 2 chairs. The adult crash protection in the Sandero stepway is identical.
      It’s all political.

I'm not a car snob so I ordered this hybrid jogger it's got all what I'm looking for especially space inside it's not one of those cramped hatchbacks you can't get anything in when visiting the builder's warehouse so great. 🎉 I also noticed that the third row seats don't have seat belt reminders because they can be removed but your rear view mirror keeps a eye on that very well and those rather large airbags each side protect you as well called tyres on the third row I did notice these things before I purchased one.

    I drive a common rail turbo-Diesel 2013-plate Citroën Grand Picasso 7-seater, a great mpv and load-carrying workorse.
My intention is to trade my Citroën in for a strong hybrid Dacia Jogger in 2025 or 2026.
I am monitering owner feedback and I am slightly concerned about some design and build-quality issues.
My hope is that by 2025/26 those issues will have been discussed and resolved.
I did briefly look at a 2019-plate end of line (production stopped in 2022, I think) Gasoline Citroën Grand Picasso with 17,000 miles on the clock at £19,600, but then thought that this was precisely Dacia's design thinking on the Jogger: a 7-seater built to cost to rival other three-year old 7-seaters on the market.
This video offers a pretty persuasive argument for the Jogger hybrid -- and I love the Terracota livery !

I drive a 7 seater Seat Tarraco excellence lux that now costs around £42,000 new (I bought pre-covid for much less as they weren't selling) and I'm not really seeing an awful lot of difference other than some squishy plastics and a few digital infotainment items that in all honesty I could happily live without for the amazing price point that the Dacia offers, I also think looks wise its not too disimilar and from the front i think it might actually even be better looking than my SEAT. If I was buying a seven seater today this would be my first choice, hands down.

I dont get petrol heads obsession with alloy wheels that will scrape on the first kerb they inevitably hit. The rear camera seems as good as a Tiguan Ive had. Safety standards now are all about those driving the car and to hell with other road users.

Liked and subscribed - thank you for this excellent review. I ordered a Dacia Jogger Hybrid Extreme in April with all options except the net for the boot, and it's a total price of 28.050 Euro here in Germany. Which new car could I get for this price as a 7-seater with a hybrid engine and an automatic gearbox? There is definitely no competition to this car!
According to the safety regulations of the EU, my new Dacia will have all the assistance options in place incl. lane assist, pedestrian and cyclist recognition, speed limit warning and so on. Euro NCAP should be obliged to renew the test result with this new version. Sad enough, thast they even didn't crash a Jogger instead they transferred the test result from a Sandero stepway. Seems a bit like they wanted to "protect" the other manufacturers of the higher price segments ...
Another point is: Why do they make it relevant for the NCAP test result, when each driver is able to turn off all the assistant systems? Do the pedestrians see a warning light, if a car is approaching with the assistants turned off just to know "I shouldn't cross the street, because the car doesn't see me ..."?

  • @officialwildlink

The fact that drivers in the UK do not use indicators when overtaking an obstacle in their driving lane is mindblowing. You can’t just steer suddenly and go by and not making aware the drivers behind you. It’s just common sense and might save someone’s life.

  • @whitedogleeds

I like my driving position to be as raised as possible with the steering wheel low. Can the seat be raised as it looks a bit low to me? Also, I think I'd be put off by the rear seats as I want the space but don't have room at home to store any and neither do I want the faff. Also, I don't like all the metal jutting out when you fold the bench forward. Seats that fold flat are much simpler and more practical and I'd rather spend more on a car to have that option, I think.

As a current owner of a Dacia Logan Stepway, I’m still umming and aahing about whether to change to a Jogger (love the Logan it’s a good honest workhorse) and still unsure if the extra £3.400 is worth it for the Hybrid. Still think you need to do a lot of miles annually or keep it for a long time to justify that.

I think the better way to look at it is if you want an auto or not. My 1.0 Jogger does 46mpg real world over 1800 miles so far (its just broken in bless it). The difference between 52mpg and 46mpg isn't a lot. I've worked it out to be £158 difference per year for 10000 miles @ petrol @140. So over 10 years of ownership you will save roughly £1580. Your mileage may vary, petrol prices will vary. I understand our driving styles are different etc.

A great quick review Tish. This is a great honest family car that does not pretend to be anything else. The loading and seating functions are things that you would have to pay much more to get yet the execution in the Jogger is very well thought out. It looks like a great all rounder and will certainly be worth a look not only for those on a budget but those who want functionality and practicality over form. Many thanks for sharing.

The Jogger was given a low safety rating for its lack of electronic safety aids. It doesn’t have lane keeping assistance or seatbelt reminders for the third row and the auto-braking system detects vehicles but not pedestrians. Not being funny but if your anything of a driver you shouldn't need this stuff anyway. The Jogger scored 70% for the structural protection it offers adult occupants, which is equivalent to a four-star rating.

    Positives: Cheap
    Negatives: Everything else
Drivers Seat position offset steering wheel.
Seat padding can be squashed fully with one hand and new one in showroom already has bolsters creases.
No under arch plastic guards so relying on wax spray to stop rusting.
Doors sound tinny when closed and door alignment poor.
Noise when above 30mph need intercom system as road noise is horrendous.
Steering wheel feels like a 90s car, is hard and vibrates badly when accelerating.
MPG 45 at best all round driving.
Dash is slower to show speed then actually going, is it cable driven?
