    Dacia's latest is a 7-seat MPV-SUV-estate type thing that offers massive space and even bigger value. It's £15k! That's well under half what you'd pay for a Peugeot 5008 or a Kia Sorento or a Ford S-Max. Yep. It's bound to be rubbish, right? Nope. Mark explains in our Dacia Jogger review.

    You missed a trick with the 3rd row which is that you can fold them all the way forward against the second row back. If you do that you get a lot of space and it is nearly flat.

      Yeah, thought the same - after removing 3rd row and folding 2nd - you get enormous boot to play with. Err.. right.

    A fine and fair review Mark. So many/too many car journos are bewitched by testing Porsche GT3's or carbon fibre roofed BMW M lumps, then look down their noses at any lesser car. Yet this Dacia, and many other cars, are what 'real world' people wants, owns and drives. And they can't be arsed about 'sporty' ride and handling either, another journo' obsession. So thumbs up for fully appreciating this is a great, affordable, useful, car for the people. Don't sound ashamed to like it!

    Thanks for the review, I enjoyed it :-) I suspect it may be a bit small if you're, for example, a family of six or seven as the boot isn't that big... but it's still a lot better than most. Personally I found the VW Caddy quite a good option, we were able to go camping for two weeks as a family with four teenagers and got everything and everybody in. I didn't see anything else with that kind of space for the same price.
    On the other hand the Dacia should work with smaller kids or if you're only six/seven up some of the time.... it really is a lot of car for the money :-)

    Oddly, you can only have the 1.0 3-cylinder engine with a manual gearbox. I don't really get why, as he been pointed out it's essentially a Sandero at the front so the engine range fitted to the Sandero could essentially just be bolted in. In the market this is aimed at an automatic transmission would be a popular option, as might dual-fuel.
    My guess is they don't want to offer those so they have ........some...... advantage to the hybrid when it arrives.

      @@poplaurentiu4148 . I’m aware, but I don’t need the size of the Bigster, although the new Duster would work. I know that there’s a 1.8 Atkinson cycle hybrid engine coming too, based on the block of the Jogger. It depends on the time frame, my current car is five years old and has been faultless, so I have no pressing need to replace it. The jogger is built on a new platform too of course, which is partly why it’s such a good car. I’m pondering all of this so I’m in no particular hurry.

    • @poplaurentiu4148
      @poplaurentiu4148 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@richardsmith579 Today Jogger is built on an platform similar with Sandero but recently test of NCPA & NCAP crush tests did not give Jogger more than *1 star from total of *5 because they have far less protection systems in Jogger than Logan, Sandero or Duster which have *2 (Sandero and Logan) & *3 (Duster).. The new safety rules that will enter by the end of this year will be applied for all brand new cars including the new Duster & Biggster and require all new cars to have all those systems on-board before will be allowed to be approved in tests & inspections for hommologations.. So, in theory drivers & passengers will be much safer for basically same affordable purchasing prices..

    Now they do the wltp range with the engines in the cars I have zero idea how they’re getting these advertised efficiency figures. 33mpg is crap.
    Even my previous Hyundai i20 1.0 turbo 3 cylinder was advertised as 55mpg but I only gets about 36.
    These tiny engines somehow seem to do good mpg on paper but in reality are worse than the bigger 1.4 or 1.5 displacement engines.
    If you want a 3 cylinder I’d say the 1.2 110hp puretechs are the sweet spot. Good torque and the new corsa and c3 I’ve seen get over 39+ mpg with a heavier foot than mine.

  • @stevencampbell1150
    @stevencampbell1150 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The reason it's not great mpg wise is 2 fold, 1 it's a 1 litre turbo in a car that size which basically means a small engine pushing a large car which you can't defy the laws of physics on especially allowing for the drag of its shape through the wind and also it would depend on on how it was driven. Driven sensibly I reckon it'd see 40-45mpg. If there was a diesel which unfortunately there isn't despite Dacia having access to the Renault 1.5 then it'd manage well over 50 despite the shape. I doubt if the hybrid will be much better though it'll be better than the 1 litre it wouldn't top a diesel for economy.

If the car is fit for seven passengers, Dacia (Renault) surely would have engineered the car for this...

As an estate car it is up there with a Skoda Superb or E class, and as an SUV it is likely more usable than a 2 wheel drive Evoque as it has more ground clearance. What a shame this car has only achieved a one star ⭐️ NCAP rating. For a brand new vehicle sold as a family car I don’t think this is acceptable at any price. This isn’t only due to the lack of basic safety aids, the adult occupancy score is 21% LOWER than a Nissan Quashqai!!

    • @vanaramauk
      @vanaramauk  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In fairness it’s a bit more complex than that. Euro NCAP gives an overall score that can’t be higher than the car’s lowest score in any one of the four categories. Dacia doesn’t fit a variety of modern active safety systems (like lane keep assist) because it keeps costs down, but actually the Jogger’s occupant safety scores are 4-star for adults and 3 for children. Not brilliant but not terrible either. It also didn’t actually test a Jogger, it tested a Sandero and transposed the scores. Not ideal.
      It’s more a PR disaster than a safety one really.
      Mark. 🙂

      @Theoriginalramjammer 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vanaramauk of course, the detail matters, and It could be a buyer is prepared to compromise on safety in all areas for the price if buying outright is the aim. However, if leasing, a higher quality, more refined, NCAP ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ Quashqai with better tech and safety scores across the board and a Dacia Jogger cost basically the same per month from Vanarama! 1Star NCAP Rating DEATH TRAP

    • @TheSpudlyMcgudly
      @TheSpudlyMcgudly 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Is it though? Have you even looked beyond the headline figure? It's child and adult occupancy rating is roughly on a par with the Vauxhall/Opal Mokka, and better than the Ford C-Max, and no one's calling them deathtraps. The low score is mainly to to the lack of seat belt warnings for the removable rear most seats and driver assistance, not because it's any worse in an actual crash. NCAP puts too much emphasis on technology, rather than how easy it is to drive a car safely. Chances are, if your car is more than 3/4 years old it would score even worse than this if retested today, such is technology. Your car hasn't suddenly got worse overnight though.
