You two got it going on! I was rehearsing in a church one day before church and the band broke out with this song. All us singers fell in and the pastor came in laughing, dancing and singing with us. It was so funny! AND YES, We were all white! LOL
We have 326M American citizens in this country. Regardless of what the media portrays...the majority of America still don't worry about people's skin color. Our Government is systemically racist not America.
It was just living in a totally different world where we did not even see that crap. It's gotten worse over the years. No brotherhood, no sisterhood. So sad, how did we end up here?
@@kathyhayward2228 No reason for "Black Lives Matter?" In the 60s and 70s??? Do you know what a "drop piece" was? Ask a retired cop. Do you know why they take belts and shoelaces when people are arrested? Look it up... then wake TF up... "some of your best friends are Black". Yeah - look that phrase up as well...
Wild Cherry were funky as you could find in the '70s -- and yeah, they are white. This was an iconic song. Glad you chose to react to it. I'm older than dirt but never heard anyone ask if Wild Cherry were white or black. We danced and discoed together, just having great times. Hope you explore more songs by artists that you think are black, but find out are soulfully white. 💕💕
They all appear to be white, sorry... there is one of the members... that looks like there could have been a little someone 'darker hued' a few generations back in the mix tho. But agreed they did sound a bit more 'not quite white' than straight white... they're just funky.
This 61 year old grandma use to dance to this in 1976. The year of the bicentennial and play the funky music. Also, the Eagles were very popular Aerosmith and the Rolling Stones. I really like bob Seger. You are so cute. I love your reactions.
Ohh yes the old days when music had variety and new bands were making their own sounds. Like cars back in the day when you knew what a certain brand of car as it went by you.
"Are the black?" Nope, a white boy wrote it, and sang it. Funk was color blind. No one cared who was in the band. The band was primarily white at the start. But as it expanded, such as the horn section, mutiple races were included in the lineup.
Funk was the marriage of white rock with black R&B....if ya hear real early Parliament/Funkadelic(like Osmium)it was thick into the psychedelic LSD thang...George Clinton used to say "we are nothing but a black acid rock band!"
The guy is tolerable, the girl annoys me. She's too much of a smartass. Whether they like it or not, White musicians can write funk/black music. In some cases better.
I'm a 67 year old white boy. I was in my prime and hitting the clubs every night when Disco was on fire. I've danced to this song a hundred times at least. When the DJ threw this down the dance floor was a crush of bodies moving and groovin like one big funky ecstatic beast.
I was a white boy DJ in an old hole in the wall r&b and blues club and when it would be my turn to dj I would always find this record playing when I got to the turntables.
I’m a little younger then you …. I have memories of playing basketball with all my friends and this song was always great to play basketball to 😎😁 the 70s great times!!!!!
I was in the Army in 76', when this song came out (OK, I'm old). Our platoon was a good mix of ethnic types. We all got along great and had each other's backs. We had fun together. One day the brothers in my platoon (I'm White) jumped up and said, "There's that song!, on the radio" and turned it up. They started dancing to it. We all did. On the "White Boy" part, they danced around me, pointing at me, "Play that funky music, White Boy". I laughed along with them and said, "You are going to be embarrassed, when you find out whose playing that song. A couple days later, somebody bought the album and brought it in. We all saw the pic of the White band on the back. They just kinda put their heads down, shook them and said, "Damn". We all had a good laugh. Miss those guys/times. Thanks for reminding me.
If you really want a Treat when you react to these, first Type in "Soul Train Dance Line... then the Song Name... Example: Type in, "Soul Train Dance Line, I feel Love." By Donna Summer. And Enjoy!
@@brandiil8559 100 years from now when people have forgotten 95% of the pop music from the 80s through the 2020s.... People will still be listening to Pink Floyd like we listen to Beethoven and Mozart with reverence today. Its. That. Good.
"They white?" Back in my younger days, when this song came out, we couldn't have cared less what color they were. Oh, how things have changed, and not for the better. Still fun to watch your reactions to the first song I ever danced with a girl to.
It's because nowadays it's so pushed to be concerned about the color of skin when I don't care what color your skin is as long as you're talented and kind that's all that matters
I understand and sympathize . . . however . . . you may have missed the point of the song. It's a satire sung by a band of caucasion musicians. I believe it's supposed to be funny.
No, they're white. More proof that there isn't much difference in the races after all. I like r&b, and funk. I'm white as snow, but I like what I like.
@@PabloDiablo682 it's more than absurd, it's anti Christian. People who think they are Christians and hate other people don't know what it means to be a Christian. The Lord loves everybody on this planet, and if you're good enough for him, then you are plenty good enough for me.
@Dianna Thompson yeah the sad reality is when you just see race based memes and hear steryotypes all your life it makes an image in your head about a certain group. Not justifying it, but trying to show how this happens.
@@GenericUsername1388 you're absolutely right. We are all raised in the silo of our own little worlds and we all have unconscious bias based on the things we saw and heard as kids. Yep, they’re white. This song was all over the radio in the mid 70’s. There is a video of them singing this song on a TV show and you can see them. You’d be cracking up at the fashion too. Classic disco era clothes they wore.
And... If you take a closer look at the band playing, over on guitar is a guy by the name of Bryan Bassett. He's now the Lead Guitarist for Foghat. As a follow up, I'd suggest seeing the Live from St. Pete video of Foghat doing "I just wanna make love to you".
I try my best to get this chic to dance at the club , she said no to 4 songs , then Wild Cherry busted out , I dragged her to the floor . 26 years later she still here 😂

So sad that today's kids are listening to academic loons that are dividing ppl when the vast majority of kids in the 70s and 80s were singing and dancing to all this together irrespective of their melanin. We were all just having fun!
This was the most fun & entertaining reaction video I have watched on TH-cam. Just watching your smiles and dancing was really enjoyable. I am a 71 year old whilte woman and I LOVE this song...whenever it is played, I can still "get down" with it. Thanks for this video! 😁💃
These two are adorable! I’m white and this song reminds me of my disco days, when it didn’t seem to really matter what color anyone was. WTH happened to America?
It was about the music, there was a whole generation who were learning hard lesson in the 60s, and after that mess(vietnam) many just wanted to live their lives as they saw fit...
It is so cool watching two young folks enjoying music from this 64 year old’s wheelhouse. Good for you two for looking and listening outside your comfort level. Good luck to you from Canada. Steve
This 62 year old white lady absolutely LOVES you two. You have an open, honest, enthusiastic reaction to whatever you listen to and you clearly just love good music, whatever its origin. Keep it up and keep on groovin!
The song is really a true story. They were playing a gig, doing pretty standard rock songs when somebody shouted, "Play that funky music, white boy!" They pretty much just improvised the song right there on the stage.
Im a 73yo white man and you two put a smile on my face and and some steppin’ in my feet- good luck and I’m a fan- PS- loved you’re review of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody - too good!
You have no idea what you missed by not coming of age in the '70s. The music, the freedom, the overall craziness of that era. If I could go back and relive any decade, it would be the '70s, just for the music and the dancing.

@@brettmanus7904 I looked up the top 100 hits of the '90s and only recognized a few. That's probably because I had moved to a remote area and wasn't getting any radio reception except the local yeehaw channel. 😄
Here's some more background info (in part) on the song: " As the group began to develop a following in the Pittsburgh area, disco was becoming increasingly popular, and they were repeatedly asked by listeners to play more dance music.[3] While brainstorming for new song ideas, Beitle recounted hearing a fan shout "Are you white boys gonna play some funky music?" Parissi was inspired to write a song based on the phrase; he began on a drink order pad with a pen borrowed from the bartender."
Ya'll are so funny. Glad you discovered this gem and liked your genuine reactions. There is a video that shows them live singing this, that would provide some clarification, you really need to see that. This is a salt and pepper band, music is not just for one race, music is for all races to bring us together.
There's just one human race. Differences are in color of skin, but not in race. The race is called Homo erectus. Another human race was Homo Neandertalensis.
It's interesting! I was a teenager in the 70's and I don't recall being concerned about whether or not a band was black or white. It was all about the music and hey, some white boys can definitely be funky! ;) Everyone learns from listening to different types of music. I grew up hearing songs by bands like Wild Cherry on the radio, next up would be Stevie Wonder. Top 40 kind of stuff but on FM radio. To me, the question of race is moot. It's about the music. Good song, can dance to it or just sit back and enjoy!
Old fart here. The 1970's was a fantastic decade for music. So many awesome artists and songs. And, the people all loved to dance together in the disco.👍🇨🇦🤠
I'm 60 years old and it makes me feel good when the younger generation appreciates my generations music. Bet you didn't know a white band could throw down a funk tune like this one did ya. haha
Im 60 also and Couldnt agree more! They should type in, "Soul Train Dance Line Play that Funky Music White Boy" and have their minds Blown to the Dance Moves in the 79s to this song.
OMG! Your reaction to this classic tune just made my whole day, thank you kids. I'm a 54 yr old 'white boy' who grew up with this song and many other soulful funky songs just like this. I could tell that your reaction was very genuine not like other reaction channels and it made me very happy :)
One thing about the music from the 70's especially disco, it brought everybody together, white, black, brown, yellow and even green!🤣 Glad you two enjoyed it. Now play some Brickhouse from The Commodores.
The 70's was great. Motown, disco, rock, metal, country, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin(These 2 bands deserve their own category), nowadays everyone's so divided, can't/ won't have conversations with people who think differently. So sad, come on Americans, UNITED WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL!!!!! I miss the 70's.
Oh dear, 70 here. Had so much fun dancing Saturday nights out to this song so long ago. Still puts a smile on my face remembering when we all got along. If no one is around later I might just watch again and get up and dance, oh.,.remember when? Good, good times😊
See what you discover when you step out of the rap genre? There's everything from Cab Calloway to the OLD blues singers that we're losing so quickly to KC & the Sunshine Band to Jimi Hendrix to Sly & the Family Stone to the wonderful artists from Motown & so many more. They're all treasures that people of all backgrounds love to hear. Glad ya liked the music!
When I was a younger guy we would stop at the deli for egg sandwiches every morning. There was a really old black guy we would sit with and eat. After a while we got to know him well. I'm not sure what year it was around 92/93. He told us he was playing for new years in nyc. We turned him down because we had dates and frankly had no idea who he was. It was Can Callaway. He lived in the neighborhood we worked in White Plains. A few years later I was watching a Grateful Dead special on channel 13 and they played a black and white cartoon with a young black dude and the cartoon characters dancing to his awesome music. It was no other than Mr Callaway. I was blown away. He was an awesome dude till the end. He was moved away by family shortly later. I'm kinda glad we didn't know who he was. It made it more special. At least now it does then it would have been awesome to go. Sorry for blowing you off my old friend. RIP ☮️
I am a 50 year old white guy and heard this song my entire life. Love it. And it helped me make money when I was a DJ. Great reaction kids! Keep up the good work!
These guys popped onto the disco scene, right after cool and the gang. Perfect timing, disco had a sound! Disco had a sound. They were 5 white guys. I didn’t care what color the person was that made those incredible songs. I love R&B, disco and especially the songs from cool and the gang and wild cherry. I felt we were all sharing a cultural moment that transcended our differences by the way we dressed, danced, and made music. It was truly a special time with the best musicians that ever lived ! Jimmy Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gay, Eddie Van Halen, Michael Jackson. I could go on and on listing artists in that era. Thank You so much for reviving literally an age that will be recognized as one of our countries best times to have lived by celebrating the music we all loved together as a nation. The rest of the world thought what are you doing over there.
@@DonFormica no but when I use to see next Generation back in day I saw my name in the end credits knowing there was someone with my name never did I was here later in life 😂
The lyrics reflect what the band actually experienced, when they were booked to play in an R&B club! They wrote the song, after that. I saw them on Soul Train and was "SHOCKED" to find out that the band was "white"!
The song comes from when wild cherry was playing a club, and trying to figure out how to refine their music... Some black guys yelled, "Hey, are you gonna play some Funky Music". The lead singer, at the bar wrote the lyrics to this song on a napkin..
The term "One night stand" came from the music industry. It referred to a one night gig. Small time groups often traveled across country playing a series of one night shows. It was a very grueling life of constant travel for little money. The term goes back to about the 1940s. It only started being used as a sexual reference in the 1960s.
My favorite club was Oscar's in Salt Lake City where we'd get the bands going between Chicago and San Francisco. They were just picking up a one night gig while driving through but there were some incredible performances.
oh Goodness! i am 60 years young and i remember when i was a teenager back in the 1970's my friend and i did a routine on that song in a High school talent show! brought back killer memories for me! this song jammed!
“ Brick House” by the Commodores- the ultimate funk. And “ Cut the Cake” by Scottish funksters Average White Band. There’s a great video of Wild Cherry live. You two would’ve been Soul Train Dancers back in the day. You can watch the band do this on Soul Train.
It does my heart good to see young folk be exposed to and enjoy timeless good music from the past. This is when music was real and authentic. There isn't any computer generated auto tune or effects. The musicians sounded just as good live as they did recorded. Live shows in smaller and large spaces were just as good. You 2 are getting the same reaction I felt hearing it for the first time. I felt it go straight to my bones and just had move and groove.
You both scored a A+++ in my book today.. I absolutely LOVE seeing younger generations getting into and diggin the music of my generation. Bless you both ! :)
There's a live video of them from 1976 playing on the TV show Midnight Special. Their trumpet and tenor sax players were black. Wait until you see what the trumpet player does with his horn. Great song for bringing us all together. Glad you guys love it as much as I do.
One of the greatest one-hit wonder songs ever. The lead singer was White. I think the band was mixed. If I remember correctly, this song genuinely reflected him trying to move with the times when disco was having its day. We danced our asses off to this one back in the day.
@@petez470 I remember reading they had a song from the same album do fairly well in Europe and even Asia but not really in the US. I looked it up. The name of the song was "Hot to Trot".

I’m just a little old. And I’m still making music today.)
Ive always loved 'black' music my whole life. My mom was raised in Baltimore md. As a white girl she and her friends always loved fats domino, the platters, Sam Cooke etc. This song will always be a classic. Love ya Chris and Rheasia 😘
We had great music when I grew up in the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, and into the 80’s! Great to sing along with and dance to, love seeing it brought back by the young people of today! We all loved black and white group music!
So fun to watch young people discovering this from my day - late 70s (I was 13 or so). This is one of the BEST dance songs, obviously, in history. Others - anything from Bee Gees, the disco kings; "Brick House", from The Commodores, "Superstition" Stevie Wonder... Those are just a few of my favorite dance songs. Great reaction!
This is some straight-up soulful "Stank-Face" FUNK from the 70's!!! When this song came out back in the day and wherever it was played, the dance floors got packed at the clubs, discos, wedding receptions, high school dances, block parties, house parties, cookouts, picnics, etc...and I'm talking about all races, all skin colors, nationalities & ethnicities would just "JAM" to this "BANGER!!!" You heard that thump? That was my Mic Drop!!!
When I was a kid in the 70's, I thought we were going to a place where it didn't matter if people were black or white, and music would just be music, not black or white. We didn't get there. Maybe we'll get another shot at it, and it'll happen next time.
That's silly. White and black collaborate a LOT. The sound track of the movie Judgement Night contained the likes of Ice-t and Slayer doing a song as well as Onyx and Biohazard, Pearl Jam and Cypress Hill. How bout Korn and Ice cube? let's see... Tech9 and well everybody hahaha only reason racism really still exists is because everyone keeps saying it does. Eminem is one of the biggest hip-hop artists ever up there wit the Doc and Tupac. A lot more people know what Chuck Berry was responsible for than there used to be. Quiet you! lol
Wild Cherry are white dudes that played rock music. They were gigging at a club that liked disco & someone yelled out "Play something funky!" So they made this song. 🤩🕺💃
Y’all gonna be doin’ the “Bump” with this song!! Ask your folks to show you that lol!! This song went to number 1 and they were nominated for two Grammy awards. It was soooooo popular. And BTW, they were all white from Ohio Valley area. Funk knows no color only SOUL.
Watching you two jammin out to wild cherry was so entertaining. I wanted to dance with you. Chris you looked like Ruby Rod in the 5th Element with your facial expressions. So Cool!!!

Nice! I'm a 50 year old metal bass player and my band covered this song when we were in our twenties. Good music has no age, either.
I played (guitar) metal, punk, funk, disco and a bit of Johnny Cash when I was a young’un. Folks didn’t understand why I couldn’t be just groovin’ on one thing.
Best comment I've seen in years! There's a lot of us meatheads out here .
You two got it going on! I was rehearsing in a church one day before church and the band broke out with this song. All us singers fell in and the pastor came in laughing, dancing and singing with us. It was so funny! AND YES, We were all white! LOL
Back in the day the good days we didn't worry about the color of people's skin just enjoyed the music. That's what it's all About. It's called unity.
didn't Rick James tatoo that onto Charlie Murphy's forehead?

We have 326M American citizens in this country. Regardless of what the media portrays...the majority of America still don't worry about people's skin color. Our Government is systemically racist not America.
It was just living in a totally different world where we did not even see that crap. It's gotten worse over the years. No brotherhood, no sisterhood. So sad, how did we end up here?

"Are the black?" Nope, a white boy wrote it, and sang it. Funk was color blind. No one cared who was in the band. The band was primarily white at the start. But as it expanded, such as the horn section, mutiple races were included in the lineup.
No one ever asked before what color they were in the 70's we didn't care but now it is all that matters, sad.

The term "One night stand" came from the music industry. It referred to a one night gig. Small time groups often traveled across country playing a series of one night shows. It was a very grueling life of constant travel for little money. The term goes back to about the 1940s. It only started being used as a sexual reference in the 1960s.

Ive always loved 'black' music my whole life. My mom was raised in Baltimore md. As a white girl she and her friends always loved fats domino, the platters, Sam Cooke etc. This song will always be a classic. Love ya Chris and Rheasia 😘
If music is good, it doesn't matter what color they are! All that matters is that the music touches you!!!
We had great music when I grew up in the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, and into the 80’s! Great to sing along with and dance to, love seeing it brought back by the young people of today! We all loved black and white group music!
I’m dead! 😂😂😂😂
By far my favorite younger peeps checking out older music!!! You guys are great! 🙌🏽❤️
Now kiddos, y'all have an idea how naughty we were back in the day 🤣. Good times
I’m 71, and like so many others, it’s great that you young folks are loving music we so loved in the ‘70s!!
I’m 71 too Love these old songs and especially love that they’re not being forgotten.
Luckily, funk knows no color. They all white. The song is about their transition to playing funk. I think it took 20 minutes to write.
Forgotten about Brick House
My day too. This is a junior high jam
Disco Inferno.
“My parents are older” Awwww I’m laughing, crying!!
These two are so funny...and the reaction on Bee Gees made me cry laughing
Music brings people together, music is love!
This 85 yr old white lady totally agrees. Don’t you just these two. Pure reaction!
When I was a kid in the 70's, I thought we were going to a place where it didn't matter if people were black or white, and music would just be music, not black or white. We didn't get there.
Maybe we'll get another shot at it, and it'll happen next time.
I've been there! And it's GREAT!!❤️
I'm praying we'll get it in the 21st Century. What's skin color got to do with anything! We all have something to bring to the table.
Quiet you! lol
oh and I forgot one of the first collaborations that was a bigger deal than i think they knew at the time Aerosmith and Run DMC
Phil Lynott and Thin Lizzy...proof positive that music doesn't need a color
Wild Cherry are white dudes that played rock music. They were gigging at a club that liked disco & someone yelled out "Play something funky!" So they made this song. 🤩🕺💃
@Randy Rome Yep.
👍😆 I love it!
The sheer JOY you express made my week! Well done kiddo's!! The 70's were the BEST!
Physician's Diagnosis: *_"Patient laid down the boogie and played that funky music till they died."_*
Seriously, I just come here for the dancing. Puts a smile on my face every time!
Yes! The Bump was (still is!) my favorite dance! 👍💖 Such fun!
Yes the bump, girl Laura you took me back to a time we all partied together
I love the Bump! 😊
Watching you two jammin out to wild cherry was so entertaining. I wanted to dance with you. Chris you looked like Ruby Rod in the 5th Element with your facial expressions. So Cool!!!
58 yr old woman here, grew up in the 70's in Canada and rollerskated to this song. Who cares what color they are. We didn't care then and don't care now. Glad you like our music! 😊
"Are they black?" I'm dying 🤣 💀
It is a white man singing.
LOL!!
😁
They're Italian boys from Ohio. lol.
OH YEAH !! Wild Cherry 🍒 Great Song !! Cracked me up when some TV shows would mute the White Boy lyrics this is not about race it's about ROCKIN OUT !! 🤘
