I'm pushing 50 and thought I'd heard and seen it all on Nirvana, well, you stuff is on point and I get a little of that feeling back that I am so permanently homesick for . thanks
"I could sit down on a chair and play acoustic guitar like Johnny Cash or something, and it won't be a big joke." Listen to the acoustic version of this and Do Re Mi. He had plans beyond Nirvana
I was just talking to someone about this same quote from Kurt. He obviously had plans to go down a more Folk route and even wanted to do a Ledbelly cover album as he wanted to do with Mark Lanegan back in 1990 with the then titled band The Jury.
I highly recommend you listen to the first live performance of this in 1993 at the Aragon Ballroom. It is so much more lyrically, sonically and just far more powerful. Knowing it was being heard for the first and only time live makes it even more amazing...During the chorus he is just screaming "Hey" not "Pain" that was altered for the video long after his death. Hole absolutely disgraced this song and Kurt during their unplugged. This was the last song Nirvana ever recorded in a studio, the same one Dave would record the first Foo Fighters album. Haunting...It's interesting Kurt was considering using some of Dave's songs. I think Krist and Dave know more about Kurt's death than they lead on and were quiet for a reason.
@@andrepereira744 I highly recommend you get up and do something with your life, find something that makes you happy instead of sulking around and shitting on everybody else. Because you have a shitty life and have nothing else better to do. Grow up. Your not cool.
The live version is my favourite too. Would love a professionally recorded version one day if it exists. Kurt's voice sounds rough on the studio take and it just doesn't have the intense energy of the live version.
Here were those personal ordeals he talks about: im tired of Nirvana, im tired of touring and i dont care about the 9.7 million we will make doing the Lalapolozza tour im not gonna do it, if we do another Nirvana album i want to work with different drummers. I want to do a acoustic album by myself and maybe use Kristen Pfaff. I want a divorce and need to get new lawyers and representation. This was before Rome and 3 weeks later good buy
Saw them in Detroit six months before the suicide. Band was super tight. Killer show. I hope one day they just come out and talk about what a cluster fuck that last couple years were. We’re all adults Dave I think we can handle it
This great video deserved a better last nirvana song. A band exhausted of its ideas. Kurt was really drawn to the unplugged style, could’ve seen them doing a full REM if he’d not taken his life 🎉
It would've been amazing to hear what a fourth album could've sounded like, Kurt's evolution as an artist was always interesting to see especially considering how he always did whatever the fuck he wanted and wasn't guided by any trends of the moment, i like to think he would've pulled a lou reed and come up with something that destroyed any notion people had about his music
My step dad's sister supposedly taped the TV broadcast when Nirvana played Live And Loud. Only one problem, she lives on the other side of the US (California) and I don't know if this is full blown true. I don't have her number, but my stepdad luckily does. I also can't get the video off the tape which means, it might be lost media.
I think that dave and krists persistence about how bad the drug addiction was is a way to feel less guilty about what more than likely truly happened. Fuck Courtney..... it's strange how close Courtney was to epstein also
I'm pretty sure jam after dinner is another mislabel; on livenirvana, it says that 'Jam' (Recorded before ykyr) is released, and that jam after dinner isn't. And when you look at the sources the jam from the wtlo dvd is stated as 'Jam' and not 'Jam After Dinner.'
In Kurt’s voice recordings with his family and lawyers such as those in the movie “about a boy” he makes it pretty clear what Dave was talking about the start of this video (Eg that Dave and Krist wanted more money and Kurt was very close to breaking up the band over it)
@@TheWhiteJamesBrown It’s been a while but yes that’s my recollection. I need to watch it again as I’m sure there was also quite a lot about the situation with Courtney.
Those interviews are from like early to mid 1993. The issue hed talking about in About A Son was an incident that happened in 1992. Nirvana had equal songwriting royalty's for all members and Kurt decided to get that changed so he got the bulk of it. Which Krist and Dave honestly weren't that mad about since Kurt was the one writing everything but the issue was Kurt wanted this agreement to be retroactive, so it wouldn't apply to just future royalties but royalties that the band had already received, essentially taking money out of the pockets of Krist and Dave. Kurt was not budging on this issue and was prepared to break up the band over it. That's what he was talking about in those interviews.
@@CoyoteCrush Interesting, but do you have references to those claims? I find it hard to believe that Dave and Krist "weren't mad" about that massive potential loss if it's true and Kurt of course is not around to give his side or clarify exact dates. However it would seem to me that there was a very strained relationship between Kurt and the band, the label management as well as with Courtney just before his death.
@@Emcfree2084 well I guess I wasn't specific enough. They were pretty upset about the whole thing but the retroactive part was what almost broke up the band. I know '"Come As You Are" the band biography talks about it a little bit. I think all the biography books do actually. Yeah but for some reason I always want to blame Courtney's influence on this, it seems kind of out of character for Kurt. It was the original agreement after all conveniently changed month or two after they married. Kurts reasoning was that he didn't expect the band to blow up like they did, and since he is the one getting 90 percent of the attention and fame, he deserved more money. Which I mean Dave Grohl himself said he was able to go out in public without being recognized when he was in Nirvana, while Kurt was being written about in magazines that had nothing to do with music like Newsweek and that one tabloid magazine that piece of breathing garbage Piers Morgan used to write for. Lol I only know that because he wrote one of those "Deformed rockstar baby" articles when Frances Bean was born. Fun trivia fact lol
Courtney is what happened lol. With her came the drugs, anger, sadness and then the death. We can tell she didn't think it through when she killed her only songwriter. Since she had him whacked she has never been able to write another song...strange lol!

Kurt with Big John Duncan of the Exploited @2:30 who I believe was Nirvana's guitar tech for a stint.
am I the only one who called the hidden song on nevermind "suicide samurai" ? I don't know where we got that title back in the day.
Suicide samurai was a song done in 1985-1987 by Kurt, it goes by other names too, it probably got mixed up with endless nameless.
Probably the Come As You Are book. It's a title from the early demos (Fecal Matter, etc. can't remember if it was that one or another).
