I bought Nespresso precisely because the amount of better coffee brands that make the pods for Nespresso machines. Including fairly small coffee brands in particular.

For me I don’t see the point of having pods that just do espresso.
I’d rather have an espresso machine and then I can use whatever coffee like without having to worry about pods.
Think I’d rather get one that does all kinds of drink.
I found it took a little while to get used to the UHT milk in the pods.
    Doesn’t compare to fresh milk.
You get used to it quickly and can be a small price to pay for the convenience.

For me the time and cleaning required for the espresso machine made me not want to use it

Coffee pod machines are not worth it. What is worth it however are coffee machines that work withall coffee pod brands by using different attachments.

What is the environmental impact of pods?

That's not as straight forward to answer as it seems. If you get plastic or metal pods and throw them in the rubbish bin then the impact is quite high. However, if you properly recycle metal pods, or, even better, use compostable pods, then the impact could potentially be much lower than a traditional coffee machine or cafetiere. This is because the biggest contributor to the CO2 of a cup of coffee is the production of the beans themselves and coffee pods actually use far less coffee than most traditional methods of brewing. The machines are also quite efficient at heating and only heat the precise amount of water needed, not a whole kettle full. - Angus

@@which When I mean environmental impact, I'm not narrowly focussed on just CO2 - but interesting that they use fewer beans - thank you!
