If the food has anything to say about it, then Bulgaria is in a lot worst state than the 12% that has been publish.
Bulgarians that are in Pension or living on the bread line are most at risk. Will this price hike stop any time soon or will it just keep raising.

We’re on the same boat. Problem’s that depending on a single source of an income might be dangerous as we’re developing a dependency on that main stream of an income instead of creating additional assets , using our biggest asset - mindset. Anyway , London’s always been pricey and finding side hustles or being an entrepreneur is essentially needed here.
      PS. Fun fact:
Average wage in UK is about £3000 and a litre of petrol is about £1.95 , while in Bulgaria average wage is 1600 leva and price of the same litre goes above 3 leva a litre. Quick maths :
My purchase power through work valuation in UK would be about 1500 litres per month compared to only 1/3 of that in Bulgaria with about 500-550 litres per month.
      Governments , any explanation?!!

Hi Gareth - a Bulgarian chap here living in the UK. I usually do my groceries at Tesco's and literally just went there after watching your video and to be quite frank - the prices haven't or have barely changed over the last 3-4 years. All the products I usually purchase have remained at the same price for years - if there is a difference, then it's very minor as I haven't noticed it. I haven't lived in Bulgaria for almost a decade now and am shocked by your comparisons - one can only wonder how the working class make both ends meet..

People have gone through worst times - I'd still argue Bulgaria hasn't been in a better state since the fall of socialism and it's only going to get better. I can only imagine what would happen in the UK if such price increases take place - people would to the streets for sure - I still remember the amount of moaning people did when they started charging 5p for plastic bags in England..

I live in Burgas and the "average" salary here is around 500-650euro a month. Most families of 1 kid struggle a bit and those with 2 i will say they need to be in debt to do their normal stuff.
I think inflation hits everyone no matter if ur lower/middle/above average etc..
I myself feel inflation quite a lot since i've been earning 1500euro a month salary in Burgas which is probably in the top 5% earners. Sadly i can feel the pain and thank god I live with my parents and we are only 3 people so we bring enough to pass the month and have some money set aside but i feel like they will be gone once the EURO begins.
A friend of mine owns multiple real estates in Burgas and he felt the pain of increasing goods because he earns somewhat around my salary from a couple of properties but still struggling. Maybe taxes increased I don't know.
All i know is that if you are 3 people in family you need AT LEAST 1250euro thats to supply every needs and not looking at prices when shopping. In 2020 and 2021 3 people in family used to spent on food roughly 15-20euro a day just food !. Now i believe its around 25-30euro which is a huge jump comparing to our salaries.
Properties gone in value a lot. In some of the most places to buy real estate prices went up by 20-30% even more. Last year on average in a very good locations properties were around 950-1050euro per square meter now its 1350-1500euro square meter this is insane jump.

Inflation is traditionally defined as too much money chasing too few goods. Covid policy has seen manufacturing and food processing businesses locked down whilst employees and owners have been paid to do nothing.
Green energy policy, rightly or wrongly, promotes the use of more expensive, less efficient, and less reliable fuel sources.
The EU gets a lot of gas and oil from Russia. In the 1990's an agreement was made between western countries and Russia that no country bordering Russia would join NATO. This has been broken several times, and there has been talk of Ukraine joining NATO as well as the EU. Why the west would provoke Russia with it's dependence on Russian energy is beyond me. Then it collectively sanctions Russia who who have a ready market for their energy and food in China, the Indian subcontinent, and the far east.
We've not had a time in living memory where western leaders have been collectively so poor; at least in all the major countries. What combination of incompetence and corruption they are displaying is something history will determine.

Wonderful analysis Gareth. I lived in Sofia 1993-1995. What’s happening there now is sad but not as bad as when I lived there. Inflation was over 1700 leva per US dollar. Some small businesses refused to sell their products because they didn’t know how much it would cost to re-stock. People were committing suicide after the value of their life’s savings was reduced to almost no value because of hyper-inflation. I lived near Krasno Celo market and it was heartbreaking to see the retired babas looking through the trash bins for food that was too far gone to sell but still good enough to eat. Having more than enough for myself, I used to walk around my neighborhood and try to give them a 10,000 leva note so they could buy a few loaves of bread; maybe a few eggs, etc… Some of them were too proud to take a handout from a stranger, especially a foreigner. I tricked them by putting the money in a small copy of the Gospel of John. I had a small edge of the bill sticking out so they could see that there was some money in it. I didn’t want them to throw it away not knowing there was a gift in it. Actually two gifts. One for their stomachs and one for their souls. I will pray for your country. I look forward to seeing more of your very informative posts.

Fertilers prices are more than double, equals less grains and less silage. Less beef and dairy cows should be a result therefore more beef on the market at the moment. If correct beef prices should sky rocket near to Xmas? The price rises those are convenient for the implementation of the Euro. Although Ukraine, does play a big part in what is happening. Great video, love your presentation style, 👍👍

The cause of inflation is not fertilizer. The real reason is that Bulgaria's economy is embedded in the EU. Today you pay for a high standard of living in countries such as Germany, France and others.

@@ATasteofBulgaria Yes, we await the Euro, and will that become reality? Higher prices are also just a cycle of higher wages. Simply cannot increase minimum wage and overall wages without employers passing that wage increase onto a consumer. Everyone, well almost everyone, wants something for nothing and the Euro, won’t be the only factor in sky high prices.

Inflation shouldn't be taken only as a number. Bulgaria experienced an insane rise in the Industry in the past few months. The working force is too small for the needs of the deglobalizing world and it puts a ton of pressure on the companies to staff their business. That's one of the biggest reasons the inflation is that big, in addition to the heating world economy of course

@@ATasteofBulgaria the inflation will settle at some point, both in Bulgaria and the world. We have some crazy prices in Western Europe too. Bulgaria though will need immigration or Bulgarians to get back to fuel the growth and I don't see either happening with the stupid (sorry for the word) nonsense Bulgarians love to repeat about how bad they have/had it in Bulgaria. So the economy will just stagnate a little bit more than what it is capable of once the world economy settles in the less globalized world.

Its because of combination of bad government during PPs coalition including failures in the energetics, covid recovery and foreign debt plan also very bad price speculation practics implemented by the large retail stores in the country which can be esily proven by comparing the prices of the same products in different markets most of the times there could be 10 to 30 percent difference in the prices of the same basic stuff... So my advice is just to be more alert and never rely on the same market chain instead use at least 3 or 4 retail stores so you could be able to compare their offers and choose the best one online price comparing websites are also an option but they are not 100% accurate and the price could vary from store to store even if they are from the same brands.

What can we say about the current crisis? That since the war in Ukraine, prices have increased everywhere in Europe? That our leaders have made bad decisions by being too dependent on one country for energy in Europe? That nobody expected a war that would affect the EU so closely? That our governments have liberalized the energy sector which gives the current situation? (the problem of the price of energy does not apply to countries that have applied a price ceiling like Spain or Portugal) Your videos on Bulgaria are interesting but I wish you would stay away from conspiracy theories... > refer "they want to kill the small business..." ; "conspiracy will come true"... PLEASE ! I hope now that this crisis will open the eyes of our leaders and make us less dependent on less democratic countries. Because the EU with 447 million people has to take the political power, not really took till now.
