Your great-grandfather, no doubt, worked his rumpski off to be able to buy and cultivate that land. And keeping it in the family for so long probably wasn't easy. My Dad and his brothers sold their grandfather's farm land, which he bought for a few grand back in the early 1900's. There are now cookie-cutter homes on there and it saddens me...both for this reason and that they sold. But one shouldn't expect their progeny to have the same interests. We are all different. Did any of the four grandsons/daughters - shareholders stay in Ag? P.S. nice editing of the video.
Thank you so much for your kind comments. I am pleased, at least for the foreseeable future, this land will remain farmland. No strip malls or cookie cutter houses. You are correct that selling to a local community college/educational institution made the sale a bit more palatable. None of the 4 shareholders in the farm LLC have been in Ag. We are 4 cousins. Our 2 mothers set up the LLC in around 1990 or so with the stipulation that their offspring (4 remaining cousins/shareholders) would have to sell the 80-acre farm within 2 years of the death of the last of the two of them. When my mother died in March of 2023, that set the clock ticking, so to speak. They had some foresight and did not want our generation to fight over the asset of the farm and wanted us to get value out of it with a sale. Thank you for watching.
What a lovely home and farm it must’ve been. I appreciate your video documenting the farm. I’m thankful it will be used for Ag. To me it honors the heart of your heritage and their hard work.
