I do have an issue with someone having that many children. With 19 kids, there is no possible way they are able to give them all the care and attention they need as individuals. At a certain point, I think it’s wrong and cruel to have so many children. The older children also end up as caregivers. So, on top of not getting the love and attention they need, they’re not enjoying a childhood because they’re parenting their younger siblings.

Fully agree. Parentification is a recognised form of abuse that kids in quiverful families so often face.

They even admit to having a buddy system where she is their first buddy (parent) until weaning and then they get passed to an older sibling so she can have another. It’s unfair to the young and older children cuz the little kids get passed around and push parenting duties on the kids themselves

I have 3 young children, and that is a lot. I think when she had 5-6, Michelle was overwhelmed with kids and laundry, cooking ect and had a breakdown. Then they implement grandma doing laundry and having kids being the “helpers.” No possible way to give the kids the attention and live they need. She basically took care of them until they were 2, then the older child took over, And she got pregnant again. It’s part of the messed up quiverfull movement.

Yes, in the past people had many kids because child mortality was very high. So families actually ended up raising 2-4 kids on average even if they gave birth every 2 years. People who give birth every 2 years now are not following traditional life, they are simply endangering their/their wives' health for no reason

It's likely that they themselves before becoming parents had also experienced child abuse as children. This is what continues the cycle. Also victim blaming like they did as @hellisamongrel wrote also shows they don't think what happened was that bad or traumatic. That gives a clear indication that they view this kind of abuse as okay because they're justifying what happened in their own history as "normal" so they don't have to address their own internal problems and the current issue of the abuse their son committed against their own daughters.

This kind of thing doesn’t just apply to child abuse, of course; in some states, it was still not possible for a wife to be raped by her husband until very recently (1993), and even then some states make distinctions between marital rape or rape between non-married partners, or narrowly define rape as sex under “force or threat of force,” which means raping your unconscious wife after spiking her drink is still not rape in Oklahoma and, if memory serves, Ohio

It's about not losing the "race war" and trying to grow the "white race." A lot of this is the result of being raised in an ultra conservative family, refusing to educate your teens on sex because it's too "secular" of a topic and then they're suddenly unable to discern between appropriate and inappropriate behavior. On top of that, they're taught that the "man" has full authority over "women", like it was an idea instilled in Josh's mind and is probably why he justified his actions. NO ONE ever deserves to be abused in this way, shape or form. Thank you for this video. I had... shall we say, *a bad experience* with my older cousin who was a mid/late teen and I was 5 or 6. I don't remember much about the encounter but I remember how violated I felt. And I remember how all my family members pretended it didn't happen and still let him stay the night with me. I remember how everyone said "well he was a kid too, he just made a mistake you can't really say you were ______________." To hear you say that child molestation and teenage stupidity are in no way the same thing, and it needs to be taken very seriously and not brushed off is very validating to my experience and many other peoples experience. So thank you for bringing light to that issue. ❤

I feel like we don't discuss enough the circumstances surrounding the Ashley Madison review. At the time, he was an executive working at a far right-wing lobbyist group, and traveling around states trying to legalize gay marriage. His literal job was perpetuating the idea that the only valid marriage was a heterosexual monogamous marriage between two Christians of the opposite sex. He didn't believe this, or he wouldn't have been unfaithful. But a check is a check.

This whole thing keeps sending me back to a police officer who did a talk (I believe) at one of my schools when I was younger. He was speaking on drunk driving in general, but in that moment, about consequences. He said that he once pulled over a car of teenage girls, and the driver was over the legal alcohol limit, just barely. She cried and pleaded with him and he let her off on a warning. The next weekend, he responded to a fatal car crash, and the same girl had crashed her car while drunk and her and she died.
This case is reminding me of that talk, because insulating people (especially young people) from the consequences of their actions is doing them no favors. They need to face their consequences in order to learn and (hopefully) pump the brakes. Josh Duggar's parents have gone to great lengths to insulate him from the consequences of his actions for years, and this is the result. A disgusting man who thinks he can do whatever he wants, and no one can touch him. It's a shame that what he wants is horrific and (rightly) against the law.

Intervention and a legit treatment program can make all the difference. I have a family member who was a youth offender and lived in a treatment center for six years. He's a normal functioning adult now that has thanked his father for turning him in and advocating for him many times.

I have personal experience with a close relative being arrested for possession of material similar to Josh (yes, that bad) and after seeing his court proceedings, I was astonished when you mentioned that cop arrested for CP got over 50+ years. From my experience with the US court system, it's not uncommon for those arrested for possession of CP to get out in under 10-15 years tops if they can provide information that would lead to others getting arrested and charged as well; my relative got 6 years with good behaviour. As a victim of CSA myself, it's incredibly disheartening. Now a year later, it seems Josh himself got a little over 12 (probably due to his prior criminal history), but I wont be surprised to see it reduced.

It really shows just how passionate you are for the victims, and proves you have a good heart. I hope you're okay after this video; it was a lot and was likely incredibly mentally straining, but thank you so much for pushing through it to cover this. My parents had the mindset of Quiverfull (lived by the Pearl's teaching and Focus on the Family etc), but were cut short when my mother developed a serious chronic illness, and to my father's credit (one of the only), he agreed with her to stop at 4 kids for her health. That doesn't mean the rest of their mindset changed though. I was raised in such a family, and yes. It was very damaging.

Little Rock is the capitol of the state of Arkansas. So he was sent to a place in Little Ro k. A state trooper would know exactly what to do about child abuse. He is what is called a mandatory reporter. He was required by law to report it. He said the Duggar’s lied and said it was only one incident and that is why he didn’t report it. (He said this from prison) The statute of limitations is a state law not a county law.

Very important topic - and thank you for the continued content warnings! It is hard to grasp how any parents could put their reputation and that of their son above the well being of their daughters. As you said, the parents should also not be allowed to be around kids. They knowingly exposed kids to an abuser.

  • @The_CNB

It’s rare that a child spontaneously abuses another child. By covering up Josh Duggar’s many issues & crimes, the family not only enabled him to continue abusing, but they’ve never outed who hurt him , so that person or those people will certainly have continued assaulting children all this time as well. No one seems to be talking about this or even touching on the point.
